문자의 이미지화, ‘해체’로 본 초성화 현상 연구 (A Study on the Phenomena of Using Initial Sounds Based on Deconstruction and Imaging of Letters)

초록

본 연구는 청소년 언어에서 광범위하게 쓰여지고기성세대에서도 일부 수용되어 사용되는 한글 문자의초성화 현상을 바탕으로 미래 문자가 나아가고 있는방향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 청소년은 미래 세대의 주역으로 청소년 문화를 살펴보고 이해하는 것은 미래사회를 가늠해볼 수 있는 시발점이 될 수 있다.
디지털세대라고 할 수 있는 청소년들 사이에는 인터넷과 휴대전화를 통한 소통에 있어 약어와 초성 사용이 빈번하게 일어나고 있다. 이를 자크 데리다(Jacques Derrida)의 ‘해체’이론을 중심으로 우리 언어가 나아가고 있는 방향을 짚어보았다. 자크 데리다는 잘 알려진 바와 같이 ‘동화’와 ‘저항’의 삶이 존재해있었던 사람으로 일상적으로 익숙한 이분법을 문제시하고 끊임없이 질문하여 철학과 문학의 경계를 넘나드는 이론을 전개하였는데 그의 해체 비평에서 ‘차연(différance)'의 개념을 통해 초성화와 문자이미지를설명하였다.
차연(différance, 디페랑스)은 프랑스어 ‘difference(차이)’의 어미 ‘-ence'를 ’-ance'로 바꾸어 만든 것으로‘다르다(differ)'라는 의미와 ’연기하다, 지연시키다(defer)'의 의미를 모두 가지고 있는 프랑스어‘différer(디페레)’가 포함되어 있다. 따라서 차연은 언어의 의미 작용의 연쇄 속에서 언어 해석의 열린 개념을 말해준다.
청소년이 주로 이용하는 인터넷 등 사이버 공간은청소년의 사회적 공간으로 이 가상공간의 단위는 비트이다. 비트는 0과 1로 표현되는 이진법의 부호로 컴퓨터가 인식할 수 있는 최소의 정보단위이다. 가상공간에서 일상 규범과 동시에 언어가 파괴되고 해체되어 약어나 초성을 사용하는 경향이 늘어난다. 초성은음절을 구성하는 자음, 모음 중 첫 자음을 의미하는것으로 가상 세계에 비유하면 비트에 해당된다. 문자언어의 더 이상 쪼개질 수 없는 기본 단위가 바로 초성이다. 문자가 해체되어 나타난 초성화현상은 의미를규정짓지 않고 열린 개념으로 파악되게 한다. 시각적이미지로서의 문자뿐 아니라 청각, 촉각 등 직관적 이미지로서 작동한다. 초성화 된 문자가 이미지를 대신하고 있는 것이다.
인류가 그림을 통해 이야기를 전달해온 이후 문자와 이미지는 그 경계를 허물기 시작하여 서로 넘나들며 상보적인 역할을 하여 왔다. 삽화 속 텍스트를 예로 들 수 있는데 디지털 기술의 보급과 확장으로 가상공간이 사회적 공간이 된 개인에게 문자는 해체된문자로서 전통질서의 문자가 아닌 문자 이상의 역할을 하고 있다.
디지털미디어 환경의 영향 하에 보다 경제적이고다의적이며 사회심리적 요인으로 초성화 현상이 일어나고 직관적인 기호 표현방법으로 공간의 한계성을극복하고 있는 것이다.
청소년 언어의 예로 국한하긴 하였지만 기성세대에서도 일어나고 있는 현상이며 점진적으로 확대중인가상공간 속 언어에 쓰인 문자는 살펴본 바와 같이영역을 오가며 문자 이상의 역할을 하는 이미지화된문자이다. 따라서 본 연구는 이미지화된 문자가 미래에 소통의 수단이 될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 다만 실제로 쓰이는 초성화 현상의 더 많은 예를 들지못해 아쉬운 면이 있다.

영어초록

It is a trend among not only youth but also old generations to increasingly use language in such a way of breaking away from everyday norms so that the communication itself in the virtual space using internet and mobile phones is interfered with everyday life.
Especially, communications using only initial sounds of Korean letters or expressions of emotion using only symbols are common phenomena.
This study tried to investigate the direction of the future letters based on such phenomena. It is thought to be the starting point of the prediction on the future society to examine and understand the culture of youth because the youth is the leading role in the future.
As a method of study, the youth’s use of language is examined using the way of analysis, categorization, and recombination mainly with the preceding researches. And the cause that the syllable of letter is deconstructed and recombined in a different way from conventional order or used independently is presented.
It is explainable with the ‘différance’ by adopting Jacque Derrida’s deconstruction theory. It is also comprehended as an open interpretation since the initial sound replaces a syllable or sometimes means the whole word which is the combination of syllables.
The phenomema of using initial sounds and symbols in the virtual space is like floating of polysemous symbols, and it is demanded to be creative and imaginative in the sense of design ideas. Hence the procedure that the letter deconstrcuted works as an image can be explained by the complementary relation between the letters and images with time, as well as the procedure that the letter is expressed as an object, and the way that the deconstructed letter works as an image.
The phenomena of using initial sounds and symbols are one of the noticeable features in the youth’s communication language in the virtual space which is a new demand of environmental change. It is a common way to communicate each other worldwide where no common languge exists that the deconstructed language replaces the visual image, and the communication with images shows that the deconstructed language can replace the visual images.
In the environment of digital media, the phenomena of using initial sounds occurred with economical, polysemous and phycological reason overcome the spacial limits as an intuitive way of expression of symbols. Through this study, it can be confirmed that the letters expressed with images can be an important way of common communication in the near future, nontheless the examples of using initial sounds presented in this paper are not plentiful.
The phenomena of destruction and deconstruction of language to deconstruct the syllable which is the minimum unit of letter and to recombine each consonants and vowels in a different way from conventional order or use independently can be explained through the concept of the ‘différance’ by adopting Jacque Derrida’s deconstruction theory.
