토기로 본 제주지역 탐라후기의 대외관계 (External Relations in the Late Tamna Period in Jeju Focusing on Pottery)

초록

본고는 그동안 연구성과로 소개되지 않았던 제주지역 탐라후기 토기의 전개양상을 정리하여 동시기 탐라의 대외관계를 살펴보고자 함에 있다. 탐라후기 토기의 전개는 제주지역 재지계 토기의 변천과 동반 출토된 외래계 토기의 유입을 통해 이해할 수 있는데 크게 세 단계로 구분된다.
1단계는 재지계의 종달리식토기와 백제계의 단경호와 조족문토기가 확인된다. 유입된 외래계 토기의 기종과 타 지역과의 교차편년을 통해 1단계는 6세기 전반∼7세기 중·후반으로 상정되며 508년 통교 이후 탐라와 백제와의 관계에 해당하는 시기이다.
2단계는 재래계 토기로 완성형의 고내리식토기가 제작되기 시작한다. 외래계 토기는 동시기 백제 고지에서도 동일하게 나타나는 단일인화문과 그 이후 복합인화문 등이 시문된 통일신라계 토기이다. 유물로 볼 때 시기는 7세기 후반부터 8세기 후반으로 삼국통일 이후 신라와 관계한 시기에 해당한다. 그러나 1단계와 2단계에 제주도에서 출토된 외래계 토기의 기종은 하나같이 교역에 사용되는 운반 및 저장기에 국한되며 삼족기나 개배, 고배 그리고 골호 등의 백제 및 신라의 상위계층의 위세품은 확인되지 않고 있다. 즉, 문헌에 나타난 것처럼 백제와 신라의 탐라에 대한 직접지배를 증명할 수 있는 고고 자료는 확인되지 않는다. 대신에 이전부터 이어져 온 경제적인 이해관계는 지속되었던 것으로 판단된다.
3단계는 9세기 전반에서 후반으로 재래계 토기는 2단계에 제작되기 시작한 고내리식토기가 여전하며 외래계 토기의 기종은 주로 나말여초기의 토기와 철제 솥, 중국제 청자가 동반된다. 이러한 유물 조합으로 볼 때, 3단계는 탐라와 장보고 해상세력과의 관계한 기간에 해당한다. 청해진 유적과 동일한 유물의 출토는 당시 탐라가 장보고 해상세력의 한 구성원으로서 그들의 국제무역활동에 상당 부분 일조하였음을 보여주는 증거이다.

영어초록

This paper aims to examine the external relations of Tamna at the same time by arranging the development of pottery in the late Tamna regioof Jeju, which has not been introduced as a research result. Tamna's External Relations in the Development of Pottery can be understood through the process of change of pottery from the Jeju region and the inflow of foreign pottery excavated along with it. This development process is largely divided into three phase.
In the first phase, the Jongdali pottery(종달리식토기) from the region area and the short-neck jars, and bird feet-shaped pottery from the Baekje area are confirmed.
Through the type of imported foreign pottery and cross-chronologically with other regions, the first phase is assumed to be from the first half of the 6th century to the middle and the latter half of the 7th century, and corresponds to the relationship between Tamna and Baekje after the communion in 508 AD.
In the second phase, the finished type of Gonaeri pottery(고내리식토기) begins to be produced with conventional pottery. Foreign pottery is a Stamped pattern(印花文) that appears the same in the Baekje Oldlands at the same time and, After that, it is an pottery of the Unified Silla dynasty, on which the Composite Stamped pattern, etc. Judging from the relic, the period is from the late 7th century to the late 8th century, It corresponds to the period related to Silla after the unification of the Three Kingdoms. However, the types of foreign pottery excavated from Jeju Island in the first and second phaes were Each is limited to transport and storage used for trade and The noble items of the upper classes of Baekje and Silla, such as the tripod-pottery, flat cup with cover, a bitter cup, and Burial Urn, have not been confirmed. In other words, as shown in the literature, there are no archaeological data that can prove the direct control of Baekje and Silla over Tamna. Instead, it is judged that the economic interests that have been passed down from the past have continued.
The third phaes is from the first half of the 9th century to the middle and the second half of the 9th century, and the earlier time’s pottry that started to be produced in the 2 phaes is still there, Types of foreign pottery are mainly accompanied by so-called ‘Namalyeopottery(羅末麗初土器)’, an iron pot, and a Chinese celadon. In view of this combination of artifacts, phase 3 corresponds to the period related to the Tamna and marine force of Jang bogo(張保皐海上勢力). The excavation of relics identical to those of Cheonghaejin(淸海鎭), It is evidence that Tamna contributed significantly to their international trade activities as a member of the marine force of Jang Bogo at that time.
