1960년대 이어령 문학에 나타난 세대의식 연구 (A Study on the View on the Generation in Lee Eoryeong’s Literature in the 1960s)

초록

기존의 이어령 연구는 주로 1950년대 비평으로 그 대상을 한정하거나, 4.19 이후 저항문학의 종언 선언이나 불온시 논쟁에서의 온건성을 문제 삼고 있다. 또 에세이 연구 역시 지성과 교양에 방점을 둔 이어령의 에세이가 당대 청년들의 저항 동력을 정치성이 탈각된 문화적 순치의 방향으로 이끌고 갔다고 평하고 있다. 그러나 1960년대 이어령의 비평가·편집자로서의 활동, 에세이·소설 창작 등의 문학활동을 검토해보면, 등단 당시 그 자신이 1950년대 문단의 주류에 반기를 들며 세대교체를 주장하고 나섰던 것과 마찬가지로, 4.19세대의 등장을 통한 문단의 세대 구도 재편을 모색하고 있음을 확인할 수 있다.
신세대 주도의 문예지들 즉 『창작과비평』과 『산문시대』, 『68문학』 등이 등장하기 시작하던 1960년대 후반 이어령은 현암사 발행 『한국문학』을 창간하며 『창작과비평』과 함께 월간지 중심이었던 당대 문단 분위기의 쇄신을 이끈다. 이 잡지는 창간 당시부터 세대 담론을 적극적으로 개진하였다. 이어령은 제2세대, 즉 전후세대 문학인의 책무를 강조하는 한편, 다음 세대인 제3세대 문학인을 호명함으로써 한국문학의 세대교체를 기획하였다. 신세대 즉 제3세대 비평가 주도의 『창작과비평』과 나란히 제2세대 중심의 『한국문학』을 창간함으로써 당대의 월간지 중심, 문인 단체 중심의 구도를 계간지 중심, 세대 중심의 구도로 전환하였던 것이다.
이와 같은 세대의식은 이어령의 소설 「환각의 다리」에도 드러나 있다. 이 소설은 대학생 주인공 사미와 K교수의 문학수업 장면을 통하여 당대의 세대 구도를 상징화하고 있으며 특히 전후세대의 관념성에 저항하고 자기 세대의 역사적 감각에 기반하여 텍스트를 주체적으로 읽어나가는 4.19세대 사미를 형상화함으로써 제3세대 문학·비평의 가능성을 그 핵심 주제로 제시하고 있다.

영어초록

The existing researches on the Lee Eoryeong's literature in the 1960s criticized the declaration of the end of the resistance literature after 4.19 and the moderate position in the dispute with Kim Sooyoung. Studies on essays also point out that Lee’s essay focused on intelligence and cultural Buildung has neutralized the resistance movement of young people of the time. However, reconsidering his work as an editor, and rereading his creative activities such as columns, essays, and novels, one can confirm that Lee, who argued against the literary mainstream of the 1950s, is seeking a reformation of the literary generations again after 4.19.
In the late 1960s, when the literary magazines of new generation, such as Creation and Criticism(Changjakwabipyeong) began to appear, leading the reform of the literary atmosphere with the quaterly magazine system, the first issue of Korean literature(Hankookmoonhak, Hyeonam publisher) was published. The magazine has leaded generation discourse since its first publication.
Lee understood this period as the proper time of generational shift in Korean literature. He wanted to seek a change in Korean literature by naming the next generation as the third generation after liberation of Korea, while setting up a new mission of degagement for the postwar generation(the second generation) of writers. And by launching the Korean literature as a center of the postwar generation, he wanted to make a change the magazine system and shift the literary field from structure of the group to the structure of the generation. the overcoming of shamanism and nihilism, which was set by Lee as the goal of the third generation literature, meant the overcoming the first and second generations' literatures.
Such a view on the generations is also revealed in Lee’s novel, “the Phantom Leg(Hwangakui-Dari).” The novel, which shows the structure of the contemporary generation through the relationship between the main character Sami and the professor K, focuses on the possibility of a new generation of literature, or the third-generations’ literature, represented through the Sami.
