고연옥 희곡의 신화적 상상력과 해체적 신화쓰기 (Mythical Imagination and Deconstructive Myth Re-writing in Go, Yeon-Ok's Plays)

초록

고연옥의 신화 다시쓰기 방식은 신화의 사유나 상징체계를 수용하면서도 신화의 서사나 인물, 의미구조를 현대의 사회적, 문화적 맥락에서 재해석하여 현재적 의미와 가치를 가진 새로운 신화를 만들어낸다. 특히 고연옥은 신화를 형이상학적이고 철학적 탐구를 위한 것만이 아닌 현대사회의 모순을 드러내기 위해 사용한다. <지하생활자들> <내일은 강> <칼집 속에 아버지>를 관통하는 기본 정신은 자본주의 시스템의 물질만능주의와 인간성 타락에 대한 비판적 성찰이다. 고연옥의 신화 다시쓰기가 다른 작가들과 구별되는 특성은 ‘영웅의 여행’ 서사구조를 취한다는 점, 현대의 사회문제를 응축한 환상적인 서사, 알레고리적 시공간, 모호성이라 할 수 있을 것이다.
<지하생활자들>이나 <칼집 속에 아버지>는 전체 서사를 꿈 구조로 구성하여 환상성과 무의식의 원형이미지들을 표현한다. 또 삶과 죽음의 순환, 꿈과 현실의 상동성이라는 형이상학적 사유를 담아내는 동시에 자본주의 사회의 모순, 물신 숭배, 인간성의 타락을 그려낸다.
<내일은 강>은 원천강 본풀이 신화를 소재로, ‘영웅의 여행’ 서사를 수용하지만, 핵심 주제나 인물들을 생태주의적 사유를 기반으로 재창조한다. 4대강 사업 같은 자본주의 논리에 치중한 개발주의가 생태위기를 가져온 오늘의 현실을 제시하면서, 우주의 모든 존재가 유기적으로 연결되어 있다는 생태주의적 사유를 담아낸다.

영어초록

This study examines the methodology and meaning structure of mythology re - writing in the plays of Go, Yeon-Ok. The playwright who has been steadily exploring the problem of salvation, the problem of evil, the contradiction of human nature and society has recently expanded the world of the drama into a more fundamental and universal world by utilizing mythical material and motifs.
Her method of rewriting mythology is not the level of translation that translates the story of myth into the story of our time, but creates new forms and contents by dismantling the plot or form of myth.
It is to dissolve and reinterpret mythical narrative, characters, and meaning structure in contemporary social and cultural context while accepting mythical thought or symbolic system to create a new myth with current meaning and value.
For that reason, her re-writing of the deconstructed myth is a creation of a living myth that has the current meaning and is a re-creation of an allegory mirror that reflects modern society.
Her rewriting takes the narrative structure of the "hero's journey", the universal structure of the hero myth, but dismantles mythical narratives and rewrites them into fantasy narratives condensed with modern social problems. The most prominent feature is the acceptance of the mythical imagination and thought of the mythical fantasy, the homology of dream and myth, the circularity of beginning and end, and organic cosmology.
Underground Living People and Father in the Sheath express the fantasy and the archtype images of unconsciousness by composing the entire narrative into a dream structure. They also depict the metaphysical thinking of the circulation of life and death, dream and reality, as well as the human nature and contradictions of society that continue evil. In Underground Living People she depicts the crowd choosing evil without guilt consciousness, and in Father in the Sheath she presents a counter-myth in which the evil of the world is constantly produced by the material desire of the vested interests. The hero of the myth returns with the salvation of the world, but in her plays the evil of the world is a system that is so solid that it is returning the hero who is bound to fail.
Tomorrow I'm River represents ecologicalist thought that all existence of the universe is organically connected. Thus, the mythical plays of Go, Yeon-Ok's show the aesthetics of acceptance and creation.
