폴 푸아레(Paul Poiret)작품에 나타난 아르데코(Art Deco)의 특성 연구 (A study on characteristics of art deco appeared in the works of Paul Poiret)

초록

현대 패션은 각 시대의 사회 문화적 배경과 더불어 소재, 컬러, 실루엣 등의 변화로 새로운 스타일이 창출되어가고 있다. 복식사적으로 패션계에 큰 영향을 준 시기는 근대기에서 현대기로 변해가는 시점인 1900년도 초기였다. 이후 제 1차 세계대전과 산업 혁명의 영향으로 현대기로 넘어오면서 기능성을 중심으로 하는 아르데코(Art Deco) 예술양식의 발생으로 화려하고 인공적이던 여성복식은 간소화되고 활동적인 의복으로 변화되었다. 그 변화의 중심에는 코르셋으로부터 여성을 해방시키면서 아르데코 디자인의 선구자 역할을 했던 폴 푸아레(Paul Poiret)가 있었다. 그는 여성들을 보정 물로부터 해방시키고 불필요한 장식을 배재한 새로운 디자인을 발표함으로써 현재까지 많은 디자이너들의 본보기가 되고 있으며 그의 작품에서 얻은 영감을 가지고 디자인을 발표할 만큼 패션계에 큰 영향을 미치고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 폴 푸아레 작품에 나타난 아르데코의 특성을 분석하여 현대 패션 디자인에 응용함에 있어서 더욱 창의적이고 다양한 디자인 개발 가능성을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 폴 푸아레 작품에 나타난 아르데코의 특성을 연구한 결과는 첫째, 헬레닉 드레스(Hellenic Dress)는 폴 푸아레의 대표적인 작품으로, 스트레이트 실루엣이 기능성과 실용성을 보여주면서 단순성을 표현하였다. 둘째, 폴 푸아레는 오리엔탈리즘을 도입하면서 하렘 팬츠(Harem Pants), 미나레 튜닉(Minaret Tunic), 기모노 스타일(Kimono Style)로 이국성을 표현하였다. 셋째, 기존의 전통적인 소재와 새로운 소재의 매칭으로 탄생된 하렘 팬츠와 기모노 스타일을 통하여 절충성을 찾아볼 수 있었다. 이러한 연구를 통하여 폴 푸아레 작품이 여성의 현대 패션에 크게 자리하고 있음을 알 수 있었고, 앞으로의 패션 동향에서도 그의 작품에서 보여주는 아르데코 요소들이 많은 분야에서 연구되고 활용될 수 있는 자료가 될 수 있기를 기대한다.

영어초록

In the comtemporary fashion, new styles have been created due to the social and cultural background of each era and the changes in material, color, silhouette, etc. The period that had a big influence in the fashion world for the history of dressing was the early 1900s that was the changing time from the modern period to the post-modern period. Since then, at the post-modern period that arrived due to the influence of the First World War and the Industrial Revolution, the splendid and artificial female clothing has been changed to a simple and active clothing by the birth of art deco art form that was based on the functionality. At the heart of that change, there was Paul Poiret who played the role of a pioneer for art deco design by liberating women from corsets. He has become a role model for a lot of designers even until now by liberating women from corrective clothing and unveiling new designs that excluded unnecessary decorations and he has had a huge influence on the fashion world so that many designers have continued to publish their designs that were inspired by the works of Paul Poiret. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the possibility of developing more creative and diverse design in analyzing and applying the characteristics of art deco appeared in the works of Paul Poiret to the fashion design. As a result of studying the characteristics of art deco appeared in the works of Paul Poiret, the first was that Hellenic Dress was the most famous work of Paul Poiret; thus, it represented the simplicity as the straight silhouette and functionality showed the practicality. The second was that Paul Poiret represented the exotismus by harem pants, minaret tunic and kimono style as implementing orientalism. The third was that the compromise could be found through harem pants and kimono style created by the matching of the existing conventional materials and the new materials. Through this study, it was possible to find out that the works of Paul Poiret were nestled in the modern fashion of women, and it is expected that the art deco elements shown in his works will become the important data to be researched and utilized in many areas for the fashion trend going forward.
