전쟁과 서사, 그리고 재조일본인(在朝日本人)의 아이덴티티: 汐入雄作와 宮崎淸太郞의 소설을 중심으로 (Joseon described by Japanese Settlers in Colonial Korea during the Period of the Pacific War: Focusing on the Novels written by Shioiri Yusaku and Miyazaki Seitaro)

초록

시오이리 유사쿠(汐入雄作)와 미야자키 세이타로(宮崎淸太郞)는 1940년대 전반기 조선 문단에서 활동한 재조일본인(在朝日本人) 작가들이다. 그들에게 문학이란 전쟁과 대동아공영권 건설이라는 일본의 국책, 그리고 조선이라는 장소성과 긴밀한 관계를 맺고 있는 것이었다. 본고에서는 두 작가의 소설을 비교 분석함으로써 태평양전쟁기 재조일본인 작가의 글쓰기가 지니는 특징과 여기서 드러나는 재조일본인의 아이덴티티 문제를 생각해보고자 하였다.
우선, 『文化朝鮮』에 수록된 두 작가의 소설은 조선의 미와 풍속에 대한 잡지의 관심에 부합하는 특징을 드러낸다. 유사쿠가 조선인을 계몽하는 서사를 통해 국가로 귀속되는 아름다움의 중요성을 강조했다면, 세이타로는 조선인과 재조일본인이 공존하는 일상, 특히 음식 문화를 통해 대동아 문화의 우수성을 전달하고자 했다. 한편, 『新半島文學選集』에 수록된 두 작가의 소설은 전시체제하 ‘신반도’의 내면과 일상을 드러낸다. 유사쿠가 조선인이 과연 국가를 위해 죽을 수 있을 것인가를 타진하는 서사를 구성한 데 반해, 세이타로는 모범 국민인 재조일본인의 일상을 제시하였다. 그러나 세이타로는 그 과정에서 불평과 위반, 무질서로 가득한 경성 시가지의 실상을 부각시키는 결과를 낳게 된다.
두 작가의 소설을 비교해 보건대, 우의성과 환상성을 도입한 시오이리 유사쿠의 서사가 식민 지배자의 태도를 명시적으로 드러내고 있다면, 조선 생활의 디테일을 리얼하게 반영한 미야자키 세이타로의 서사는 조선인에겐 관대하고 일본인 스스로를 향해서는 성찰적인 태도를 드러낸다. 그러나 미야자키 세이타로 역시 조선인과 재조일본인 사이에 존재하는 위계 구조에 대해서는 침묵하였고, ‘재조’보다는 ‘일본인’으로서의 아이덴티티로 회귀하는 결론을 보여주고 있다. 각기 형상화하는 방식은 달랐으나 그들에게 조선이란 제국 일본의 일부로서만 의미를 지녔던 것이다.

영어초록

Shioiri Yusaku(汐入雄作) and Miyazaki Seitaro(宮崎淸太郞) are Japanese writers, who worked in the literary world of Joseon in the 1940s. Literature, which they considered, was closely related to the national policies of Japan; the war and construction of the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere, and the placeness of Joseon. This article is intended to consider the features and meanings of writing of Japanese settlers in colonial Korea during the period of the Pacific War by comparing and analyzing the novels of the two writers.
First, the novels of the two writers in 『Munhwajoseon(文化朝鮮)』 reveal the interest of the magazine in beauty and custom of Joseon. Seitaro was interested in spreading the excellence of the Greater East Asian culture by showing the daily life that Korean people and Japanese settlers in colonial Korea coexisted, especially the food culture, while Yusaku emphasized the importance of beauty, which belonged to the country, using a narrative to enlighten Korean people. On the other hand, the novels of the two writers in 『Sinbandomunhakseonjip(新半島文學選集)』 display the inner side and ordinary life of 'Sinbando(new peninsula)' on a war footing. Yusaku constructed a narrative to pose a question whether Korean people could die for the country, whereas Seitaro described the daily life of Japanese settlers in colonial Korea as exemplary people. However, Seitaro revealed the true picture of Gyeongseong City full of complaints, violation and disorder in that process.
When the novels of the two writers were compared, it was found that the narrative of Shioiri Yusaku explicitly described the attitude of the colonial ruler, but Miyazaki Seitaro showed a generous attitude towards Korean people and stressed an introspective attitude of Japanese people by mirroring the detail of Joseon life realistically. But Miyazaki Seitaro kept his silence on the hierarchical structure between Korean people and Japanese settlers in colonial Korea and drew a conclusion, which returned to identity as a ‘Japanese’, not as a ‘Japanese settler in colonial Korea’. Although their writing styles were different, Joseon only meant part of the Japanese empire to them.
