초록

<원주어리랑>은 원주를 비롯하여 영서지방에서 부르던 아리랑으로, 한 때 사라질 위기에 처했지만, 박희완 옹이 기억해 내고, 이를 남강연(현 원주어리랑 보존회 회장)에게 전수하면서 본격적으로 모습을 드러내기 시작하여, 현재 원주에서 불리고 있다.
본 논문은 현재 <원주어리랑>을 전승하고 있는 남강연 회장과 그 이전 세대의 박희완 옹의 <원주어리랑>을 대상으로 음악적 요소를 분석하고, 이를 중심으로 음악적 구조를 파악하여 <원주어리랑>의 음악적 특징을 살펴본 글이다. 그 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다.
<원주어리랑>은 강원도에 전승되는 여러 종류의 아리랑 즉 <긴아라리>․<자진아라리>․<엮음아라리> 중 <자진아라리>에 해당하는 악곡이다. 음악적 요소의 특징을 살펴보면, 한 옥타브 이내의 음역에서 노래가 불리고 있으며, 엇모리장단의 박자구조를 지니고 있다. 시작 선율형은 평으로 내는 형과 질러 내는 형의 두 가지가 나타나는데, 이 중 질러 내는 형이 대부분을 차지하고 있었다.
이와 같이 <원주어리랑>은 자진아라리계통의 노래로 강원도 고유의 지역성을 드러내는 음악문화를 지니고 있음을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

In this study, the <Wonju Eorirang> song of chairman Nam Gang-Yeon, who inherited <Wonju Eorirang> and the <Wonju Eorirang> song of the old Park Hee-Wan in the previous generation were written in staff notations to examine the characteristics of the songs by analyzing the musical elements and figuring out the musical structures of the songs. The results are summarized as follows.
First, <Wonju Eorirang> is a piece of music that corresponds to <Jajin-Arari> among multiple kinds of arirang handed down in Gangwon-do, that is, <Geen-Arari>, <Jajin-Arari>, and <Yeokkeum-Arari>.
Second, <Wonju Eorirang> songs consist of the notes, ‘mi-sol-la-doˊ-reˊ-miˊ’ and the songs are sung in a range of notes not exceeding one octave. Among the notes that constitute the scale, the note ‘sol’ does not appear when the tone of the songs goes up from the note ‘mi’ to the note ‘la’ and is mainly used as a passing note when the tone of the songs goes down the note ‘la’ to the note ‘mi’. In addition, in the upper part of the scale, decorations (Sigimsae) like bending the tone centered on ‘reˊ→doˊ’ appear sometimes and the pieces of music end with the note ‘la’. Therefore, these two pieces of music consist of menari-tori.
Third, the beat structure is 10/8 beats in which very fast 3 small beats and 2 small beast are organized in the form of 3+2+3+2. This beat structure corresponds to Eonmori beats. Therefore, <Wonju Eorirang> has a beat structure of Ottmori rhythmic pattern.
Fourth, the beginning melody types of <Wonju Eorirang> beginning in flat melodic line and in descending melodic line were much more frequent beginning in flat melodic lines. The beginning in descending melodic line are mainly used in <Geen-Arari>․<Jajin-Arari> in the Gangwon-do region. Therefore, <Wonju Eorirang> also utilizes the beginning in descending melodic line which is a universal beginning melody type in Arirang in the Gangwon-do region.
As such, it can be seen that <Wonju Eorirang> is Jajin-Arari series music having the music culture that reveals the regionality unique to Gangwon-do.
