부르키나파소공화국 보보디울라 시의 전래 ‘메기 신화’에 나타난공동체사회의 결정론적 정체성 (A Study on Deterministic Identity of Community on ‘the Catfish Myth’ in Bobo Dioulasso in the Democratic Republic of Burkina Faso)

초록

서부아프리카인의 의식(意識)은 신화(神化)를 중심으로 하는 가치체계와 공동체 사회에서 공통적으로 적용 가능한 도구주의(실용주의) 실재론이 지배하고 있다. 부르키나파소 역시 신화와 정령신앙을 기초로 한 세계관과 사회적 가치체계가 형성되어 자신의 정체성을 유지하고 있다. 부르키나파소공화국 보보디울라소의 ‘메기 신화’를 이해하는 것은 결정론적 공동체 사회의 정체성과 현상을 이해함으로써 그들을 향한 선교적 이해를 가능하도록 한다.
부르키나파소 보보디울라소에게 있어 메기는 상징적 의미일 뿐만 아니라 신화이면서, 신(神)이다. 또한 메기는 보보디울라소의 종족의 정신을 지배하는 가치체계인 동시에 현신이며, ‘메기 신화’는 순수 관념론과 순수 실재론으로서 본질과 지식체계 간의 관계를 분명히 한다. 그들에게 있어 메기는 실재적 믿음의 대상일 뿐 아니라 삶의 방향을 결정짓는 중요한 요인이 된다.
메기 신화가 전해지는 장소는 보보족에게 있어 신성한 장소일 뿐 아니라 종족 사회의 관계를 형성하게 하는 곳이며, 종족 공동체를 묶는 곳이다. 그들이 ‘메기’를 숭배하는 것은 정령숭배자들에게만 국한된 것이 아니며, 이슬람* 본 연구는 2017년 1월25일-2월15일까지 부르키나파소공화국 수도 와가두구와 보보디울라소 지역 주변을 리서치를 한 것이다.

교도나 개신교도 등 종교와 상관없이 모든 보보족들에게 있어 신적인 존재로 섬김의 대상이자 기도의 대상이다. 단순히 신앙의 대상을 넘어 메기 신화는 보보종족의 신념인 동시에 모든 삶의 정신적 모델이며, 동시에 인생을 사는데 중요한 신적 능력의 모형이다. 이는 아프리카인들의 의식 속에 영적인 존재와 직접적인 대화를 할 수 없는 것보다는 어떠한 실재적인 물체를 통해 소통하려는 장훈태, “부르키나파소공화국 티에포족의 전통 노래에 나타난 신과의 소통·문화정체성고찰을 통한 선교,” 「복음과선교」 제41집1호(2018), 212.
높은 경향에서 비롯된 것으로 이해 가능하다. 결국 이러한 실증적 입장으로 인해 보보족에게 신화를 통해 메기는 ‘신적 존재’이자 ‘전지전능한 존재’이면서 ‘인간 개개인의 미래를 보장하고 보호하는 자로서’ 깊은 관계를 맺기 위한 의식을 진행하게끔 한다.
메기 신화는 보보족 공동체가 유기적이면서 초자연적 세계와 경험적 세계가 어우러진 공동체임을 보여준다. 이러한 메기 신화는 친밀한 집단을 형성하도록 도와 사회적 협력을 지속 가능하도록 이끌며, 이를 통해 가족과 공동체의 결속력은 강화되고, 자신들의 삶에 의미를 부여하면서 신화는 자연스럽게 현실이 된다.
그러므로 이러한 보보족의 공동체 사회의 결정론적 정체성을 이해하고 선교하기 위해서는 다양한 변혁적 선교의 방법이 필요하다. 먼저는 사람에 대한 투자를 실천하고, 신화적 가치체계의 변화는 지속적이면서도 다양한 측면에서의 교육과 돌봄으로 가능할 것이다. 그리고 새로운 선교 현장을 개척하되 기존의 교회와 선교단체들과의 공동체로서의 협력을 지녀야 할 것이다. 끝으로 이미 보보족의 정신과 육체를 지배하고 있는 삶의 태도를 바꿀 수 있도록 다양한 모델들을 제시하고 이를 위한 선교적 시스템을 구축해 나가는 것은 실제적이면서도 반드시 필요한 작업이다.

영어초록

The West African consciousness is predominant with the instrumental(pragmatical) realism which is applicable in common with value system and community centered on myth. Burkina Faso also keeps its identity with worldview and the formation of social value system which is based on myth and animism. To understand ‘the Catfish Myth’ in Bobo Dioulasso in Burkina Faso enables a missionary understanding by understanding identity and phenomena of deterministic community.
For Bobo Dioulasso in Burkina Faso, Catfish is not only symbolic, but also a myth and a god. In addition, catfish is a value system that controls the spirit of the Bobo Dioulasso and an incarnation, and ‘the Catfish Myth’ is pure idealism and pure realism that makes clear the relationship between substance and knowledge systems. For them, catfish are not only objects of real faith but also important factors that determine the direction of life.
The place of ‘the Catfish Myth’ is not only a sacred place for the Bobo, but also a place where ethnic society can be formed, and a place to bind ethnic communities. Their worship of catfish is not limited to the spirit worshiper, but rather all the Bobo regardless of their religions including Muslims and Protestants. Catfish is a divine being and is the object of worship and prayer for all the Bobo. Beyond the object of belief, ‘the Catfish Myth’ is the spiritual model of all life as well as the belief of the Bobo, and also it is the model of important divine ability in their lives. It can be understood that this myth originated from Africans’ intention to communicate through any real object rather than not be able to directly communicate with the spiritual being. In the end, the Bobo believes that catfish is a ‘divine being’ and an ‘omnipotent being’ through myths within this empirical position, and holds rituals to deep relationship with catfish as a being to guarantee and protect the future of individuals. This catfish myth shows that the Bobo is an organic community that combines the supernatural and the empirical worlds. The Catfish Myth also helps form close groups and lead social cooperation to be sustainable. Through this myth, family and community bonds are strengthened, and the myth naturally becomes reality by giving meaning to their lives.
Thus, various transforming missions are necessary to understand the deterministic identity having the community of the Bobo and do missionary works. First of all, we need to practice the investment in people, and serve education and care to change mythical value system in various ways as well as continuing. It is also necessary to explore new missionary fields, and cooperate as a community with existing churches and missionary groups. Finally, it is necessary to present various missional models and build a missional system to change the attitude of the Bobo’s life that have already dominated their spirit and body.
