한국 한자음을 통해 보는 중고음 3, 4등 개음의 차이 (The difference of third and fourth class head vowel in the ancient Chinese observed by the sound of Sino-Korean characters)

초록

중고음 각 등의 성모 배열을 보면 1등과 4등의 배열이 같고 3등과 4등이 다르다는 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서 기존 학자들은 4등에 개음 ‘i’가 없었다고 봤다. 4등 모음은 일반적으로 ‘e’ 같은 전설 모음으로 훗날 개음 ‘i’가 덧나기 쉬웠다는 것이다.
그러나 4등 합구호운의 상황은 다르다. 이미 합구호 개음 ‘u’가 있는 상황에서 다시 개음 ‘i’가 덧나기 쉽지 않다. 한국 한자음은 보통 3, 4등 개음 ‘i’를 다반영하고 있는데 특히 4등 합구호운에도 개음 ‘i’가 일괄적으로 반영한 것을 보면 중고음 4등에 본디 개음 ‘i’가 있었다고 볼 수 있다.
그런데 한국 한자음 후아음은 3등 중뉴 A류와 4등의 개음 ‘i’를 반영한 반면, 3등 중뉴 B류와 일반 3등의 개음 ‘i’를 반영하지 못했다. 이는 혜림음의(807) 음운 체계를 반영한 듯 보이지만 혜림음의(807) 음운 체계에서 3등 중뉴 B류와일반 3등의 합류가 곧 개음 ‘i’의 탈락을 의미하는 것은 아니었다. 이는 고대 한국어의 영향을 받은 것이었다.
통시적인 관점에서 한국어의 설치음은 개음 ‘i’가 있을 때 구개음화되기 쉬웠고, 비슷한 성격인 3등 개음을 반영할 수 있었다. 반면 한국어의 후아음은 개음 ‘i’가 있어도 역사적으로 구개음화되지 않았다. 따라서 한국 한자음 후아음은중뉴 A류 모음성 개음을 제외한 다른 3등 개음은 반영할 수 없었던 것이다.

영어초록

Observing the arrangement of initial consonants of each class in the dictionary Guang-Yun(廣韻), it is possible to understand the arrangements of fourth class and first class are same, but the arrangement of fourth class and third class aren’t same. Therefore it was easily accepted that there wasn’t head vowel ‘i’ in the fourth class, because the vowel of fourth class was the front vowel ‘*e’, the head vowel ‘i’ was naturally created in front of the vowel in the future.
However, in the fourth class, there is also He-Kou-Hu(合口乎) rhyme. In this rhyme, there is also head vowel ‘u’, it is not naturally that the head vowel ‘i’ had been created in front of the head vowel ‘u’.
Generally speaking, in the sound of Sino-Korean characters, there are all head vowel ‘i’ in the fourth and third class. Especially, He-Kou-Hu(合口乎) rhyme of the fourth class, there is also head vowel ‘i’ in the sound of Sino-Korean characters. So, it is possible to think there is naturally head vowel ‘i’ in the fourth class of Ancient Chinese.
Most of all, it is very important that the expression of guttural and velar sounds of Sino-Korean characters isn’t same to other sounds of Sino-Korean characters. Although there is head vowel ‘i’ in the Chong-Niu(重紐) A type of third class and fourth class, there isn’t head vowel ‘i’ in the Chong-Niu(重紐) B type and other common third class. it seems the sound of Sino-Korean characters was influenced by the sound system of the rhyme dictionary Hui-Lin-Yin-Yi(慧琳音義, 807).
However, it isn’t meant that the join of Chong-Niu(重紐) B type and other common third class in the Hui-Lin-Yin-Yi(慧琳音義, 807) was the miss of the head vowel ‘i’. Therefore, it is possible to think the miss of the head vowel ‘i’ in the sound of Sino-Korean characters is influenced by ancient Korean.
In the historical view, lingual and dental sounds of Korean were easily changed into palatal sounds in front of the head vowel ‘i’. Therefore, it is possible to think lingual and dental sounds of Korean easily accepted the head vowel ‘i’ of the third class, very closely related with initial consonant.
On the other hand, Guttural and velar sounds of Korean weren’t changed into palatal sounds in front of the head vowel ‘i’. Therefore, guttural and velar sounds of Korean only accepted the head vowel of fourth class and Chong-Niu(重紐) A type. Because they all have strong vocality. But, guttural and velar sounds of Korean didn’t accept the head vowel of Chong-Niu(重紐) B type and other common third class.
