초록

이 글은 ‘보이는 것의 바탕이란 무엇인가’에 대한 질문에 접근하기 위한 텍스트로 최하림의 시집 『풍경 뒤의 풍경』을 참조했다. 시인이 그에 따른 시적 전략으로 풍경들 사이 ‘소통공간’의 위치를 ‘뒤’의 자리에 두었다고 보고, ‘뒤’의 풍경에 내재한 위상성을 통해 전체 풍경이 개시하는 상황을 주목했다. 이를 위해 ‘앞’과 ‘뒤’의 위치와 방향을 해석하는 준거를 그 용어의 조건과 상황의 근접성에 따라 해석의 가능성을 열어놓고, 주체와 사물을 개입시키는 사건으로서의 ‘상황’에 따른 풍경들의 관계적 측면을 살펴보았다. 분석을 위한 자료로는 현대적 건축 영역의 시도를 전체성 감각의 회복으로 그 출발점을 삼은 베즐리의 소통이론을 참고했다. 시집 속의 화자는 풍경을 통해서 자신의 내면을 응시하면서도, 스스로 풍경이 되고 그 배후가 되기도 함으로써 주체 중심의 시각적 타성을 벗어나고자 한다. 풍경을 바라보는 이러한 태도는 대상을 하나의 시선으로 수렴하지 않으려는 윤리의식의 실천이라고 할 수 있으며, 풍경들 사이를 매개하고 자신과 타자 간의 관계 맺기로 나아가는 문학적 실천이라고 볼 수 있다. 전체의 풍경은 하나의 풍경이 그 자체로 존재함과 동시에, 주체가 그것을 어떻게 지각하느냐로부터 생겨난다. 사물의 전 영역, 즉 풍경의 ‘전경前景’과 ‘후경後景’을 동시에 헤아리는 일은 풍경에 대한 대응과 참여 속에 마련되는 시인의 ‘열린 주관성’에서 비롯된다. 총체적인 세계 인식을 위한 전체 풍경에 다가가기 위해서는 풍경으로부터 일정한 거리를 필요로 한다. 이를 통해 지각함과 지각되는 일 사이의 관계 속에서 세계의 전체에 근접하고, 이러한 맥락 안에서 보편적 세계가 구성된다는 것을 발견할 수 있다. 하나의 풍경을 전체적으로 조망하는 과정을 살펴본 이 연구는 ‘어떻게 살 것인가’의 문제와도 직결된다. 소통공간을 창조하거나 개시할 수 있다는 점에서 한 편의 시가 불통의 시대를 살아가는 현대인에게 문학의 역할을 발견하는 창구가 될 수 있음을 알리는 계기가 되기를 기대한다.

영어초록

This article is a text to approach the question of 'what is the basis of what is seen', referring to Ha-rim Choi's collection of poems 〈The Scenery Behind the Scenery〉. As a poetic strategy accordingly, the poet placed the location of the 'communication space' between the scenery in the place of the 'back', and this paper focused on the situation in which the whole scenery begins through the phase inherent in the scenery of 'back'. For this purpose, the reference for interpreting the position and direction of the 'front' and 'back' was left open to the possibility of interpretation according to the conditions of the term and the proximity of the situation, and examined the relational aspects of the scenery according to the 'situation' as an event that intervenes the subject and the object. As a data for the analysis, this paper consulted Vesley's theory of communication, which has made the attempt of the modern architectural area as a starting point for the recovery of a sense of wholeness. The speaker in the poetry tries to escape the visual inertia of the subject-centered by staring at his inner side through the scenery, but also by becoming himself a scenery and being behind it. This attitude towards scenery can be seen as the practice of an ethical consciousness that does not want objects to converge with a single point of view, and as a literary practice that mediates between scenery and moves toward establishing a relationship between oneself and others. The whole scenery arises from the existence of a scenery in itself, and at the same time from how the subject perceives it. The simultaneous discernment of the whole realm of things, that is, the 'before' and 'after' of the scenery, comes from the poet's 'open subjectivity' which is arranged in the response and participation in the scenery. Reaching the entire scenery for total world awareness requires a certain distance from the scenery. It is through this that we can find proximity to the whole of the world in the relationship between perception and perceived work, and within this context the universal world is constructed. This study, which examines the process of looking at a scenery as a whole, is also directly related to the question of how to live. In terms of being able to create or initiate a space of communication, I hope that a poem will be an occasion to let modern people living in an era of lack of communication become a window into discovering the role of literature.
