大陸崛起 : 동아시아 질서의 변동과 韓·中人文交流 (China Rising : the Change in East Asian Order and the Sino-Korean Communications of Humanities)

초록

이 글은 한국의 인문․사회학자의 중국에 대한 담론과 학술 연구를 분석하여 양국의 인식차이를 확인하고, 동아시아 질서 변동 과정에서 나타날 갈등을 해소하는 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 또한 새로운 동아시아 질서의 이론적 탐색 과정에서 한․중인문학의 상호 교류와 협력가능성을 찾아보려는 것이다. 중국은 제국주의 침략 이후 근대 국민국가를 건설해야 할 과제에 직면했다. 한국의 연구자들은 청말과 민국시기에 중국은 계속되는 대외 위기 상황에서 종족적 문화민족주의를 강화해갔다고 주장한다. 중국은 한족의 문화를 중심으로 중국 민족의 정체성을 강화하고, 소수민족의 자결권을 부정했다. 청 ‘제국’에서 국민국가로 이행하는 과정에서 중국은 소수민족의 역사와 정체성을 부정하고 한족 중심문화에 동화시키는 ‘제국형 국민국가’의 모습을 띠었다. 한국의 학자들은 중국의 민족주의가 가진 팽창적 속성을 우려하고 경계한다. 경제 협려과인적 교류의 확대와 함께 동아시아 각국의 ‘민족’ 정체성 강화는 충돌의 가능성을 증대시켰다. ‘협력과 갈등’이란 모순된 문제를 해결하는 방법은 현재의 국민국가 체제를 개조하는 것이지만, 실천 단위인 현재의 국민국가를 배제하고는 문제를 풀어갈 수 없다. 따라서 현재의 국가가국내외적으로 주권 행사를 하지만, 국가가 인위적으로 ‘재구성’된 기억으로 하나의 ‘민족’ 정체성을 강요하는 정책을 포기하고 영역 안의 ‘국민’을 다원적으로 관리하는 ‘관리국가’로 전환하는 것이 하나의 방법이라 생각한다. 다음으로 국가간 협력을 강화한 네트워크 국가, 그리고동아시아 공동체로 발전해 나가자는 것이다. 이 과정에서 인문학자가 역사적으로 중첩된 활동공간과 영역에 대한 공동연구 등으로 동아시아의 집합적, 집단적 지성과 공유의 감정을 만들어 갈 때 동아시아 공동체의 실현 가능성은 더욱 커진다고 생각한다.

영어초록

This article identifies the national differences in Koreans' and Chinese'mutual understanding of the other by examining the discourses on Chinaproduced by Korean humanities scholars and social scientists. This is gearedto look for the solutions to the conflicts following the change in East Asianorder. Also, it intends to search for the possibilities of communication of twonations’ humanities and their mutual co-operation in the time of establishingnew East Asian order.
China faced the task of building a modern nation state after imperialistinvasion. Korean sinologists usually argue that the international crisissurrounding China led race-centered cultural nationalism to predominance inChina. They continued to contend that the Chinese nation got identified as anation with Han Chinese's culture centered while ethnical minorities in Chinawere denied right of self-determination. China became an empire-typenation-state which suppressed the identities of ethnical minorities whileassimilating them into the Han-centric Chinese nation.
Korean Sinologists are concerned about the expansionist Chinesenationalism. The drive of East Asia nations for identity consolidation alsoincreases the potential for national conflict. A solution to the contemporarycontradictions inherent in East Asia could be found in the alteration of existingnation-state system. At least as of now, we cannot solve the problems befallen upon us without the nation-state system. Given this, the ‘managerial state’which, having sovereignty on domestic and global scenes, administers thepeople with multi-cultural basis could be suggested as an alternative to thecontemporary nation-state which forces national identity upon the people.
Next, we need to develop ‘the network state’ which strengthened inter-nationalco-operation to deal with multi-national problems, and then East Asian community. The potentials for the community will be increased whenhumanities scholars of East Asia nurture the collective intelligences and sharedaffects among East Asians based on the collaborative joint research on theiractivities in the space and field historically overlapped beyond nationalborders.
