석촌동 고분군의 축조 양상 검토 – 고분 분포를 중심으로- (A Study of Formation of the Seokchon-dong Burial Site)

초록

석촌동 고분군은 백제 한성 도읍기 도성을 구성하는 주요한 시설이며, 동시에 도성의 매장 문화를 보여주는 유일한 자료라는 학술적 가치를 가진다. 이 고분군은 일제 강점기에 유적의 존재와 보존 가치가 확인되었지만, 1970년대 급격한 도시 개발로 현재는 일부 고분에 대한 조사만이 이루어진 채 대부분이 멸실되었다.
일제 강점기에 작성된 고분분포도는 이 일대의 고분 분포 상황과 성격을 확인할 수 있는 자료이나, 발굴 조사된 고분과의 관계 규명에 대한 시도는 이루어진 바 없다. 이는 기발간된 보고서에서 유구 배치를 명확하게 전달하지 못하였다는 이유 이외에도, 일대의 유적 분포현황을 보여주는 유일한 자료로 인식되었던 1916년 간행된 고적조사도보의 고분분포도가 정확한 위치 정보를 가지고 있지 않음에 기인한다. 최근 국립중앙박물관이 소장한 석촌동 고분분포도의 공개로 이 일대에 알려진 것 이상의 고분이 밀집 분포하고 있음이 확인되었다. 또한 이 분포도는 지적도를 바탕으로 작성되어 발굴 조사된 고분과의 관계 파악이 용이하다는 장점이 있다.
이 글은 백제 한성기 도성 지역의 고분에 대한 이해를 위해 석촌동 고분군 내 고분의 공간 분포를 검토하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 그간의 조사 연혁을 해방 이전과 이후로 나누어 살펴보고, 조사의 배경과 성과를 파악해보았다. 또한 일제 강점기에 작성된 고분분포도 및 조사 내용과 해방 이후의 항공사진, 지형, 지적도, 수치지형도, 행정문서, 발굴기록 등을 검토하여 석촌동 고분군의 축조 양상의 일면을 복원해보고자 하였다.
이를 통해 일제시대 고분분포도와 발굴조사된 석촌동 고분군과의 위치 관계를 파악하고, 가락동 1, 2호분, 석촌리 6∙7호분 등의 위치를 추정하였다. 나아가 대다수의 고분이 멸실된 석촌동 고분군의 공간 분포를 현재의 수치지형도와 연결시키고, 가락동 및 방이동 고분군과의 위치 관계에 대해서도 고찰해 봄으로써 백제 한성기 도성의 매장 영역의 범위를 살펴보았다.

영어초록

The Seokchon-dong burial site is one of major facilities which constitute the castle town during the Hanseong Baekje period, showing the burial culture in the capital. Although the existence and archaeological value had been recognized since the Japanese colonial era, most of the tombs were unfortunately ruined by the urban development in the 1970’s except only a small quantity of tombs excavated.
Although some temporal and spatial tips of the tombs are contained in the map produced in 1916 during the Japanese colonial era, they could not been compared to those of the remaining tombs. It was partially because the arrangement of tombs was not illustrated enough on the excavation report, and also because the map of Gojeokjosadobo(An Investigation Report of Ancient Remains), known as the only existing one, shows ambiguous spatial information. Recently, however, another map was opened to the public by National Museum of Korea, which revealed denser distribution of the tombs than previously known. This map based on the cadaster map came to make close comparison with the remaining tombs possible.
Accordingly this thesis aimed to investigate the spatial distribution of tombs at the Seokchon-dong burial site and to understand the nature of the tombs in the castle town during Hanseong Baekje period. Existing results and their backgrounds of the investigations executed both before and after the 1945 Liberation of Korea were searched to review: different kinds of maps including aerial photo, topographic map, cadastral map, digital topographic map and administrative documents were scanned thoroughly to compare with each other for the apprehension of spatial relations of the tombs at the Seokchon-dong burial site.
As a result, the locations of the excavated tombs of the Seokchon-dong site were identified on the maps made during the Japanese colonial era. Locations of tombs no. 1 and 2 of the Garak-dong site and tombs no. 6 and 7 of the Seokchon-ri were also able to be closely estimated, which enabled a critical review of the present archaeological interpretation of them. In addition, the burial range in the capital during the Hanseong Baekje period was estimated by tracing the locus of the Garak-dong and Banggi-dong burial sites. By overlaying all the spatial information on a modern digital topographic map, the spatial distributions of the tombs in this area were verified.
