초록

이번 연구 주제는 본 연구팀이 준비한 재해 DB를 어떻게 활용할 수 있을까를 선험적으로 알아보기 위한 실험이다. 아직 본격적인 재해 DB가 갖춰지지 않은 시점이지만, 내부적으로 논의되었던 일부를 제시하여 그 의의를 찾아보기 위한 노력이라고 할 수 있다.
첫째, 동아시아 재해 DB의 동질성과 이질성을 추적해 나갈 것이다. 재해 관련 기록은 시대와 지역에 따라 차이가 있다. 예컨대 우리나라 고대사회의 기록은 상당히 적지만, 고려시대와 조선시대를 거치면서 관련 기록이 점차 증가한다. 이는 재해 발생이 아닌 기록 여부에 따른 차이이다. 또한 전통시대의 중국과 한반도의 기록 역시 양적 차이는 물론 인식과 표현의 차이가 존재한다. 기록의 양적⋅질적 차이를 정확하게 이해하기 위해서는 장기간의 재해 현상 추이와 의미를 확인하는 자료 검토와 용어⋅사례에 대한 정리가 필요하다. 재해는 단기적⋅국지적 현상 외에도 오랜 시간 동안 반복적으로 일어나기 때문에 장기적인 시야 안에서 체계적으로 정리하여 비교⋅검토할 필요가 있다.
둘째, 다양한 인접 학문과의 학제 간 교류 및 공동연구의 활성화이다. 재해 자료의 종합 정리와 용어의 표준화는 재해 관련 모든 학문 분야에 도움을 줄 수 있다. 다양한 학문 분야에서 재해 자료를 이해하기 위해서는 전통사회의 기록과 그 확장성에 대한 이해가 필요하다. 재해 자료는 발생과 피해 외에도 인구와 경작지 감소, 농업생산력 저하 및 전염병까지 그 정치⋅사회적 맥락이 연결된다. 따라서 재해는 정치적⋅사회경제적 문제로부터 자연과학과 의학 분야까지 연결되는 연구 주제이다.
셋째, 새로운 연구방법론의 개발이다. 재해 관련 연구는 천문학⋅기상학⋅지질학⋅생태학 등 자연과학의 영역에 걸쳐 있는 만큼, 학제 간 교류를 통해 새로운 연구 방향을 제시할 수 있을 것이다. 기존의 연구에서는 일식(一食)⋅월식(月食)⋅혜성(彗星)⋅가뭄⋅홍수⋅이상기온 등 제한된 주제를 통해 전통사회의 자연환경 변화와 그로 인한 사회경제적 변화를 추적하였다. 하지만 이제는 개별 학문뿐만 아니라, 새로운 학문 분야로서 학문 간 선순환 구조를 만들 수 있는 연구방법론을 개발하기 위해 노력해야 한다. 전통사회 자료의 종합 정리와 용어 규정은 집단 연구를 통해 이루어져야 한다. 나아가 자연재해와 관련한 여러 학문이 구조적 연구 체계를 갖추고 다각적인 방면에서 접근한다면 새로운 연구방법론이 만들어질 수 있다. 또한, 오늘날 우리 사회에 기후와 환경의 변화에 대한 전통적 이해를 제공함으로써 신진 연구자뿐 아니라 대중적 관심도 환기할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

This academic research presentation is an experiment to find out a priori how the disaster DB prepared by this research team can be utilized. Although a full-scale disaster DB has not yet been established, it can be said to be an effort to find out the significance by presenting some of the internal discussions. This academic research presentation was made up of five topics. These topics will serve as a starting point for this research team to find a methodology for future disaster research. Therefore, the future research prospects of this research team can be summarized as follows： First, we will trace the homogeneity and heterogeneity of the East Asian disaster DB. Disaster-related records vary according to times and regions. For example, there are very few records of the ancient Korean society, but related records gradually increase through the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties. This is a difference caused by whether there are records, not the occurrence of a disaster. Also, there are quantitative differences as well as differences in perception and expression in the records of China and the Korean Peninsula in the traditional era. In order to accurately understand the quantitative and qualitative differences in records, it is necessary to review data to check the trends and meanings of long-term disaster phenomena and to summarize terms and cases. In addition to short-term and local phenomena, disasters occur repeatedly over a long period of time, so it is necessary to systematically summarize, compare, and review them within a long-term view.
Second, promotion of interdisciplinary exchanges and joint research with various adjacent disciplines. Comprehensive summary of disaster data and standardization of terms can help all disciplines related to disasters. In order to understand disaster data in various academic fields, it is necessary to understand the records of traditional societies and their scalability. In addition to the occurrence and damage of disaster data, the political and social context of disaster data is linked to population and decrease in arable land, decline in agricultural productivity, and infectious diseases. Therefore, disaster is a research topic that connects from political and socioeconomic issues to the fields of natural science and medicine.
Third, development of new research methodologies. As disaster-related research spans the fields of natural sciences such as astronomy, meteorology, geology, and ecology, a new research direction can be suggested through interdisciplinary exchanges. In previous studies, we traced changes in the natural environment of traditional societies and the resulting socioeconomic changes through limited topics such as solar eclipse, lunar eclipse, comet, drought, flood, and abnormal temperature. However, it is now necessary to strive to develop a research methodology that can create a virtuous cycle between disciplines as a new field of study as well as individual disciplines. Comprehensive summarization of data on traditional societies and definition of terminology should be performed through group research. Furthermore, if various disciplines related to natural disasters have a structural research system and approach them from multiple perspectives, a new research methodology can be created. In addition, providing our society with a traditional understanding of changes in climate and environment today will arouse public interest as well as emerging researchers.
