천안 청당동 분묘군 편년 재검토 (A Re–examination of the Dating of Graves in Cheongdang–dong, Cheonan)

초록

천안 청당동 분묘군의 조사와 보고를 통해 제시된 연대관은 당시 중서부지역에 비교자료가 거의 없어 영남지역과 교차편년에 의지할 수밖에 없었던 상황임에도 불구하고 중서부지역 원삼국시대~삼국시대 편년의 기준을 제시한 선구적이고 학사적으로 가치가 높은 조사와 논고이다. 그런데 청당동의 보고 이후 질적, 양적 모두 비약적으로 증가한 자료에 따라 새로운 검토는 불가피하다고 생각된다. 그 일환으로 보고서와 이어지는 논고에서 제시되어 현재까지 별다른 수정 없이 이용되고 있는 절대연대에 대해 검토하고자 하였다.
청당동 분묘군의 연대는 3단계로 설정되었는데, 청당동Ⅰ단계는 마형대구와 송두리유적을 염두에 두어 2세기 후반에 비정하였다. 청당동Ⅱ단계는 영남지역과 철기를 중심으로 한 교차편년을 통해 3세기 전반으로 설정하였으며, 청당동 Ⅲ단계는 Ⅱ단계와의 형식적 격차 및 토기의 경도 등을 고려하여 3세기 후반으로 두고 있다.
이에 따라 2세기후반에서 3세기후반에 걸쳐 조영된 중서부지역 원삼국시대의 대표적인 분묘와 유물상으로 파악하였다.
본고에서는 절대연대의 근거가 되었던 Ⅰ단계의 마형대구와 Ⅱ단계의 철기를 중심으로 검토를 진행하였고, 이 외 절대연대와 관련되는 소문단경호, 원저단경호의 기형 및 경도 등에 대해 살펴보았다. 그 결과 청당동유적 분묘는 기존에 설정된 2세기후반~3세기후반에 걸친 원삼국시대의 분묘가 아니라 3세기 후반 이후, 좀 더엄밀히 이야기한다면 4세기대의 분묘라는 결론이 도출되었다. 특히 마형대구의 비교에 근거하여 설정된 2세기후반의 상한연대는 최근 더해진 원저단경호의 상대편년에 대한 논의를 제외하고라도 마형대구의 형식 차이에 의해 그 근거가 상실됨을 확인하였다. 그리고 이와 연동하여 각 단계가 나타내는 연대로 보아 기존에 설정된 단계 역시 재조정이 필요함을 알 수 있었다.

영어초록

The dating of graves in Cheongdang–dong, Cheonan presented in a report is pioneering and academically valuable research. Although rely on the cross dating with Yeongnam region, because comparative data is almost not in mid–western region, it was presented standards for the dating of graves created between the Proto–Three Kingdoms period and the Three Kingdoms period in the mid–western region. However, it is not inevitable that the report of Cheongdang–dong need to be re–examined, because related materials have been enhanced in terms of both quality and quantity. Thus, this study is examined the absolute dating that had been used without modification since report.
The period when graves in Cheongdang–dong were created is divided into three stages. The first stage was defined as the period of the late 2nd century based on horse–shaped bronze buckles and relics excavated in Songdu–ri. The second stage was defined as the period of the early 3rd century through the cross dating of Yeongnam region and ironware, and the third stage as the period of the late 3rd century through comparing the forms of graves made in this period with that of the ones created in the second stage and the hardness of earthenware. Based on this, this study was carried out combined examination of graves and relics representing the Proto–Three Kingdoms period which were created in the mid–western region between the late 2nd and the late 3rd century.
This study was re–examined horse–shaped bronze buckles in the first stage and ironware in the second stage that was the bases of the absolute dating. In addition, the peculiar shapes and hardness of the short–necked jar without a paddle pattern and the short–necked jar with round bottom which help to define the absolute dating were also explored. The results showed that graves in Cheongdang–dong were not created between the late 2nd century and the late 3rd century in the Proto–Three Kingdoms period, but after the late 3rd century, more accurately in the 4th century. Setting aside the recent discussions over the relative dating of the short–necked jar with round bottom, particularly, the upper limit of the late 2nd century defined through comparison of horse–shaped bronze buckles was confirmed to be ineffective based on differences in the forms of horse–shaped bronze buckles in different stages. Therefore, the existing ages represented by each of the three stages also need to be redefined.
