東海岸地域 隆起文土器의 檢討 (Examination of Raised-Design Ware from the Eastern Coast of Korea)

초록

본고는 지금까지 신석기시대 남부지역 조기문화를 대표하는 표식자로서 주목되어 왔던 남해안 융기문토기와 직접적인관련성을 갖는 동해안 융기문토기의 위치와 성격을 포함하여 문화적 계통 문제를 재검토한 것이다.
그동안 전파론적으로 인식되어 왔던 융기문토기의 아무르지역을 중심으로 하는 북방 기원론은 양 지역을 연결하는 중간지대에 융기문토기 문화가 존재하지 않고 기종구성과 토기 형식적인 특징에서 한반도 융기문토기와 커다란 차이가있다는 점 등에서 재검토가 필요하며, 오히려 다양한 융기문토기의 기종구성과 변이를 보여주는 남해안지역에서의 자체 발생설도 고려해 볼 필요가 있다고 생각한다.
오산리식토기(鰲山里式土器)와 융기문토기(隆起文土器)의 선후관계 역시 문암리유적(文岩里遺蹟)과 오산리유적의 층위적 양상과 남해안지역에서 오산리식 문물의 공반 양상, 방사성탄소연대 측정치를 통해 볼 때 시간적으로 종적인 관계가 아닌 동시기에 지역을 달리해 분포했던 토기 양식으로 이해할 수 있다.
동해안지역의 융기문토기는 오산리식토기와의 공반관계, 형식적인 특징 등에서 2개의 토기군으로 대별되며, 각각의토기군은 시기적인 변화에 따라 성격을 달리했던 것으로 추정된다. 그리고 재지계토기와의 공반 양상 및 유적 내의 점유형태, 기형과 문양대의 특징 등을 고려해 볼 때 남해안 융기문토기 문화의 영향 내지 확산과 깊은 관련이 있는 것으로 추정된다.

영어초록

This article reconsiders the status and features of raised-design ware from the eastern coast of Korea, as well as the issues of their diffusion and their associated cultural system. Raiseddesign ware from the eastern coast of Korea is directly related to the raised-design ware from the southern coast of Korea, which has been highlighted, based on recent excavation results, as the index fossil of the earliest phase of the Neolithic Period in the southern coastal region of Korea.
The diffusionist hypothesis which regards this ware as having originated in the northern regions – with focus on the Amur region – needs to be reexamined. This is because raiseddesign ware has not been found in areas in between the two regions. The raised-design ware of the two regions also demonstrates differences in terms of ware type composition and formal characteristics. Therefore, the possibility of their indigenous development in the southern coastal region must be considered, in particular given that raised-design ware from this region consists of a variety of vessel types and their variations.
Osanri-style ware and raised-design ware can be understood as contemporaneous types with different regional distribution. This is based on a sequential understanding of the archaeological remains from Munam-ri and Osan-ri, an examination of the artifacts found in association with Osan-ri-type cultural remains in the southern coastal region, and the results of radiocarbon dating.
Raised-design ware from the eastern coast can be divided into two groups based on their formal characteristics or associational relationship with Osanri-style ware. Each of the groups is thought to display evidence of diachronic change. Moreover, based on their association with locally made wares, their occupational contexts, and their forms and design bands, it can be assumed that the appearance of raised-design ware in the eastern coast was closely related to the influence or diffusion of the raised-design ware culture of the southern coast.
