대전 이사동(二沙洞) 은진송씨(恩津宋氏) 문중 묘역(門中墓域)의 묘비(墓碑) 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Tombstones of the Eunjin Song Clan Family Graves in Isa-dong, Daejeon)

초록

대전광역시 동구 이사동(二沙洞)은 전통적인 민묘의 원형을 잘 간직하고 있는 은진 송씨(恩津宋氏)의 문중 묘역이다. 55만평에 500여 년 조성된 이사동 은진송씨의 묘역은 1,000여기가 넘는 묘, 다양한 매장 형태, 문무인석·장명등·묘비 등 다양한 석물 등이 하나의 거대한 묘지박물관을 형성하고 있다.
이곳은 1499년 최초로 묘를 쓴 홍주 목사를 지낸 송요년(1429~1499)의 최초 매장을 시작으로 19세기까지 다양한 형식의 묘제(墓制)를 갖추고 있다. 특히 이사동 묘역의 묘비들은 시기별로 다양하게 분포되어 있고 매장자가 확실하여 묘비의 편년연구에 중요자료로 평가 된다.
본 연구에서는 이사동의 은진송씨 묘역 중 조선시대에 조성된 27명 묘역의 묘비를 중심으로 묘비의 종류 및 형식, 특징에 대해 고찰하였다.
이사동 묘역의 묘비의 형식은 개석에 연꽃잎을 형상화한 복연옆형, 비신의 상부가 호패처럼 둥근 형태의 원수형, 묘비 상부를 한옥 지붕 모양의 올린 가첨석형 등 다양한 묘비를 세웠다.
또한 이사동 묘역 묘비의 특징 중 하나는 빗물이 흘러내려 비문이 마멸되는 것을 방지하기 위해 비신보다 지붕의 옥개석이 월등히 크다는 점이다. 그리고 묘비의 받침석에 부귀영화와 장수를 상징하고 액을 막아 후손들의 영달을 염원하기 위해 거북과 현무·귀면·잉어·모란문·봉황문 등을 새기었다. 이는 다른 지역에서는 보기 어려운 이사동 은진송씨 묘비 만이 갖는 독특한 특징이다이사동 은진송씨의 묘역은 전국에서 그 유래를 찾아볼 없는 문중의 집단 묘역으로 살아있는 문화유산의 현장이요, 역사적, 문화적, 민속학적으로도 매우 중요한 문화재의 보고이다.

Located in Isa-dong(二沙洞), Dong-gu, Daejeon Metropolitan City, is the family graveyard of the Eunjin Song Clan(恩津宋氏), which maintains the original form of traditional folk graves. The Eunjin Song Clan's tomb in Isa-dong, established over an area of 550,000 pyeong(19,500,000 ft2) for 500 years, encompasses more than 1,000 graves, various burial styles, and an assortment of stone artifacts such as stone figures for civil servants, funeral lanterns, and tombstones, thereby creating an expansive cemetery museum.
The graveyard’s history traces back to the initial interment of Song Yo-nyeon(1429-1499), who served as the Hongju-moksa(洪州牧使), marking the establishment of the graveyard in 1499. Different types of burials continued in the site until the 19th century. Particularly, the tombstones at the Isa-dong Cemetery are widely distributed across different periods and the identity of the buried person is certain, making them an invaluable resource for chronological research on tombstones.
In this study, 27 tombstones from the Joseon Dynasty located in the Eunjin Song family graveyard in Isa-dong were examined, with a focus on their types, forms, and unique characteristics.
The tombstones at the Isa-dong Cemetery encompass a variety of styles, including the Double-yeon Side type, shaped like a lotus leaf at the stone's apex; the Wonsu type, with a rounded upper portion of the tombstone resembling a HopaeIdentity tag; and the Gacheomseok type, which features the upper part of the tombstone shaped like a traditional HanokTraditional Korean-style house roof.
One distinctive feature of the tombstones at the Isa-dong Cemetery is that the roof stone on top is significantly larger than the tombstone itself, designed to protect inscriptions from rainwater erosion. Additionally, the pedestals of the tombstones are engraved with symbols of tortoises, HyeonmuBlack Tortoise Symbol, ghost faces, carps, peony patterns, and phoenix patterns. These symbols represent wealth, prosperity, longevity, protection from evil, and wishes for the prosperity of descendants. Such unique characteristics are found exclusively in the tombstones of the Eunjin Song family in Isa-dong and are not commonly seen in other regions.
The graveyard of the Eunjin Song Clan in Isa-dong is a distinctive family burial site, unlike any other in the country. It stands as a living cultural heritage site and a treasure trove of cultural assets that hold significant importance in terms of history, culture, and folklore.
