토기를 통해 본 동(東)아무르 지역 중세문화의 전개 (Development of the Medieval Culture in the Eastern Amur River Area based on Pottery types)

초록

말갈 7부와 관련하여 일찍이 러시아 학계에서는 토기연구를 통해 말갈문화를 구분하여 왔고, 최근 중국에서도 속말, 흑수와 더불어 불열, 안거골 등을 구분하려는 시도가 있었다. 필자 역시 서(西)아무르지역에서의 기왕의 연구와 최근 발굴 성과를 기반으로 속말과 흑수 양자를 구분한 바 있다. 당시의 검토는 서아무르를 중심으로 한 것이었고, 본고는 송화-우수리강 하류를 포함하는 동(東)아무르 지역에 대한 중세유적 즉 말갈, 발해, 후발해 시기에 대한 것이다.
필자는 서아무르 지역에서 속말계(트로이츠코예)와 흑수계(나이펠트)를 구연부의 돌대와 동체부의 문양에 따라 나누었는데, 이러한 구분은 중국의 류샤오동, 정영진·윤현철 등의 연구에서도 유사성이 확인된다. 한편, 동아무르 지역 중세유적에 대한 러시아 학계의 의견은 크게 세 가지로 나뉜다. 하나는 V.Ye.메드베데프의 견해로‘아무르 여진’으로 보고 7∼13세기로 편년하는 것이고, 다른 하나는 Yu.V.바실리예프의 견해로‘포크로프카’라는 지명을 딴 고고학 문화로 부르고 9∼13세기로 편년하는 것이다. 또 다른 하나는 O.V.디야코바의 견해로 말갈, 발해, 요, 금 시기의 문화는 동일한 전통, 즉 말갈 전통이 계속 이어진 것으로 보는 것이다.
이러한 연구사적 배경을 가지고 있는 동아무르 지역에 대해 전기와 후기를 대표하는 유적에서 출토된 토기 자료를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 그 결과 전기를 대표하는 코르사코프카 유적의 수제토기는 속말계의 전통을 따르며, 윤제토기에서는 고구려계 발해토기가 포함되어 있음이 확인된다. 그 이후 후발해시기의 나데진스키와 몰차니힌스키 고분군의 경우 과형(瓜形)토기 등 윤제토기의 비중이 높아지고 요(遼)계의 영향이 강해지나, 수제토기의 경우 속말계의 전통이 계속 이어지고 있음이 보인다.
이상의 검토를 통해 동아무르 지역의 코르사코프카를 비롯한 전기의 유적들은 발해인들이 우수리강을 따라 이주하여 형성한 유적일 가능성이 큰 것으로 추정하였다. 여기서 발해인들이란 토광묘 전통을 가진 발해정치체제에 편재된 발해말갈인들을 지칭하는 것이다. 이후 후발해 시기에도 이러한 전통이 이어지는 것으로 보아 발해의 영향이 강하게 미쳤던 것으로 추정된다. 발해사의 전개과정을‘말갈제부(靺鞨諸部)’를 복속해나가는 과정으로 본다면, 이러한 토기문화 전통의 확산 양상은 향후 발해의 동북지역 영역 또는 영향권의 문제와 관련하여 심도 깊게 조사·연구되어야 할 과제라 하겠다.

영어초록

In Balhae history, the nature of Mohe is one of the important factors to elucidate the characteristics of Balhae state. In archaeological research field, the study to demarcate the residence area of Mohe has been attempted. My previous research focused on the western Amur area; thus the site in the eastern Amur region, including the lower Songhua and Ussuri River basin, was not fully considered. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the medieval archaeological sites dated from the Mohe period to the Balhae and post-Balhae period located in the eastern Amur River Basin area.
The Heishui Mohe type pottery was developed from the Poltse culture. In the early phase, it was characterised by long-necked jar with large mouth and jar-shaped earthenware, but it the later phase, pottery type was similar with the Sumo Mohe type pottery that was mainly composed of deep bowl and flower vase-shaped pottery.
However, both the Heishui Mohe and Sumo Mohe type pottery shows significantly different pattern in the raised band on the rim and the decoration on the body. The Heishui type pottery is characterised that the raised band on the rim is separately manufactured and attached and the most of raised band has notch pattern and the motif of body decoration mainly consists of deep line and impressed pattern designs. The Sumo Mohe type pottery is characterised by the raised band decoration on the rim and lattice paddling pattern on the body.
This paper examines pottery data excavated from two representative sites of the eastern Amur River valley, Korsakovka and Nadeginski. In the Korsakovka site dated to the early phase, hand-made pottery succeeded to the Sumo Mohe tradition; and the type of pottery produced from potter’s wheel contained the Balhae-type and Tang-type ceramics. In addition to pottery, metal ornament shows the active exchange with neighbouring areas. In specific, it is noticeable that Goruryo-type Balhae pottery is extensively identified in this site. In the Nadeginski and Molchanixinski burial sites, the number of pottery produced in potter’s wheel represented by cucumber-shaped pottery that was influenced by Liao significantly increases, but hand-made pottery succeeded to the Sumo Mohe tradition.
This archaeological context shows that the site dated to the early phase of Balhae, such as Korsakovka, might be constructed by the Balhae ethnic group who migrated alongside the Ussuri River. This Balhae group might be the Mohe who was affiliated to political system of Balhae. The pit burial tradition of them also proves this suggestion. The cause of this migration was derived from the expansion and the establishment of central and local government system of Balhae state. In addition, the Sumo Mohe-line tradition succeeded to the post Balhae site, such as Nadeginxki and Molchanixinski; thus the Balhae culture considerably influenced this area after collapse of Balhae state. As seen the development of Balhae was the process to subordinate Mohe ethnic groups into her political system, the pattern of regional dissemination of Balhae pottery tradition offers important clue to elucidate the north eastern territory or the interaction sphere of Balhae state.
