이형기의 시에 나타난 허무의 판타지 — <돌의 환타지아> 분석을 중심으로 — (The Fantasy of Nihility in Hyung-Gi Lee's Poems ― Focusing on the Analysis of The Fantasia of the Stone ―)

초록

본 연구에서는 이형기의 <돌의 환타지아>가 독특한 실험성과 역동적인 상상력을 바탕으로 허무의 미학이 잘 표현된 작품으로 판단하고, 이 시에 형상화된 허무의 원리와 방법론을 분석하여 이형기가 지닌 허무의식의 심층을 해명해보고자 하였다. <돌의 환타지아>는 돌이 스스로 변용하여 극대를 포괄하는 극소의 상징인 알레프의 세계를 판타지로 연주한 작품이다. 이형기는 보르헤스가 썼던 알레프를 자각적으로 모방하여 견고한 감옥 안에 갇힌 돌이 심장으로 변용하며 탈옥의 꿈을 펼치는 장면을 연출하였다. 그리고 희망과 절망의 소용돌이인 우로보로스의 영원성에 휩싸여 돌이 다시 囚人으로 떨어지는 허무의 양상을 형상화하고 있다. 알레프와 우로보로스가 맞물려 돌아가는 돌의 판타지는 종말론적 상상력을 통하여 시뮬라시옹의 미궁 속으로 인도하며 허무의 심연 속으로 빠져들게 한다. 본 논문에서 돌의 판타지를 시뮬라시옹의 상황으로 해석한 것은 이형기가 강조했던 악마의 방법론을 새롭게 해석해본 것이다. 이형기에게 있어서 허무는 현실을 부정하고 파괴하며 인간 존재가 겪게 되는 혼돈과 절망의 아이러니를 헤쳐 나가기 위한 적극적 정신이었다. 알레프의 상징과 우로보로스의 영원성, 시뮬라시옹의 방법론이 잘 뒤섞여 있는 <돌의 환타지아>는 인간 존재의 淵源에 대한 성찰과 허무에 대한 깊은 통찰을 하게 해준다.

영어초록

Hyung-Gi Lee was a poet dreaming of nihility during his 50-year career of poem writing. Lee pursued nothingness through his poetic works, poetics and criticism, and existing studies on the poet and his works have emphasized nihility. In other words, it can be said nihilism is Lee's poetic motive throughout all his texts.
The Fantasia of the Stone is a sensational piece fully expressing Lee's nihilistic aesthetics, for which Hyung-Gi Lee was much eager to look in his entire life. In this poem, we can see his dynamic imagination, methodology of the contradiction and the destruction, and struggles against nothingness. This poem plays the stone's liberal imagination in the terms of the fantasy. The stone transforms itself into the aleph, an imaginary bead, and shows the world of it. The aleph symbolizes the smallest which embraces the greatest. Hyung-Gi Lee symbolically represents nihility by consciously imitating the aleph of Jorge Luis Borges, an Argentine writer.
In this poem of the Fantasia of the Stone, the stone in prison keeps striving for the freedom. In this poem, nothingness with mingled hope and despair is well bodied from the symbol of the Ouroboros: the poet already introduced the image of the Ouroboros, derived from Buddhistic metempsychosis, in his work of the Poetics of Ouroboros.
The aspect of nihility in the Fantasia of the Stone can be explained by simulation, the post-modern concept of the object. The stone in this work is not natural material as the object but creates new time and space. That is, the stone makes itself a secure prison, shows the situation of simulation and comes back to the prison; that is an irony. Seeing the stone's fantasy as the situation of simulation allows us to analyze the nihilistic world with a new and fresh view.
Hyung-Gi Lee elegantly expresses nihilism and the eschatological intention of civilization critique. The fantasy of the stone in this piece actually lies in the non-existent maze. With the symbol of the aleph, the eternity of the Ouroboros and the technique of simulation, the stone's fantasy enables us to think about the human being's existence and nihility. In short, the Fantasia of the Stone uniquely expresses Hyung-Gi Lee's nihilism, regarded to obtain the reality even today.
