수양개 VI지구 4문화층의 후기구석기 초기 돌날기술체계 연구 (A Study of Blade Technological System of Initial Upper Paleolithic in 4th Cultural Layer of Suyanggae Loc. VI)

초록

수양개 VI지구 4문화층 석기군은 돌날 확보와 슴베찌르개 제작을 위한 석기제작소일 가능성을 보여준다. 이 문화층의 기술체계 내에서의 주요 세 가지 속성 즉, 1) 원판형 몸돌에서 보이는 양면박리체계와 르발루아 기술의 잔재 2) 측면몸돌 제작기술의 등장 3) 돌날몸돌과 돌날의 크기에 따른 기술체계의 변화 등은 후기구석기시대 이른 단계를 말해주는 특징이다. 특히 3, 4문화층의 석기문화의 성격은 이 유적의 돌날기술체계의 변화를 보여주고 있어서 기존의 동북아시아 현생인류의 석기제작 체계의 변화에 대한 많은 검증을 가능하게 한다. 4문화층의 절대연대와 석기군의 양상을 통해서 보면 초기 돌날기술체계를 기반으로 하면서 르발루아 기술의 잔재가 남아있는 후기구석기시대 초기(IUP) 돌날석기문화의 기술체계를 보여주고 있다. 석기문화의 유형은 북아시아 알타이의 카라봄 유형과 유사한 특성을 보인다. 좀 더 엄밀히 말하면 전형적인 후기구석기시대 초기의 양상이라기보다 르발루아 기술의 일부 잔재를 갖고있는 후기구석기시대 초기의 마지막 단계로 볼 수 있다. 최근 연구는 단순히 편년과 문화적 특성을 함께 내포하고 있는 전통적인 IUP의 개념을 동북아시아의 여러 지역에 동일하게 적용하기가 어렵다는 점을 말해준다. 따라서 아시아적 시각으로 이 시기를 통합적으로 설명하기 위해서는 아시아 각 지역의 특성을 반영한 중기-후기의 전환기와 후기구석기시대 초기의 문화상을 1) I 유형: 전통적인 IUP지역, 2) Ⅱ 유형: IUP 융합지역, 3) Ⅲ 유형: 보수적 지역으로 나눈 ‘ 후기구석기 초기 세 유형 모델(Three IUP Variants Model)’을 활용하는 것이 이 시기의 석기문화를 이해하는 데 도움을 줄 것이다. 이 모델은 아시아의 중기-후기 전환기에서 후기구석기시대의 시작 시기의 다양한 문화상을 폭넓게 IUP로 설정하고 문화상을 세분화할 수 있게 한다. 더욱이 현생인류의 등장, 석기제작체계의 다양성과 융합과정 등을 체계적으로 이해하는데 용이하다. 특히 수양개 Ⅵ지구 4문화층은 Ⅱ 유형의 해석에 많은 단서를 제공하고 있다. 보다 세밀한 해석을 위해서 수양개 Ⅵ지구 4문화층과 우리나라 후기구석기시대 이른 단계에 대한 보다 체계적인 후속 연구가 필요하다. 중국 내몽고 지역을 비롯하여 중북부 지역의 후기구석기시대 이른 단계의 연구 또한 이러한 관점에서 연구를 수행하여야 할 것이다.

영어초록

According to the analysis of lithic complex in the 4th cultural layer of Suyanggae Loc. VI, it is possible that it is a workshop for acquiring blades and making tanged point. The three main attributes within this technological system are: 1) a bifacial flaking system seen in a discoidal core with vestige of Levallois technology 2) the emergence of the sub-wedge shaped core making technique 3) the change in the technical system according to the size of the blade core and blade represents the that indicates the early stage of the Upper Paleotithic period. In particular, the characteristics of the blade technological system and lithic industry of the 3rd and 4th cultural layers show the change of the blade technological system of this site, making it possible to verify the changes in the existing stone tool manufacturing system of modern humans in Northeast Asia. Therefore, the absolute dating and this aspect of the lithic complex of 4th cultural layer shows some of the technological system of the IUP which is based on the early blade technology and the remains of the Levallois techniques. The variant of lithic industry shows similar characteristics to the Kara-Bom variant of Altai. More precisely, it can be shown as the last stage of the IUP, with some remains of Levallois technology, rather than a typical pattern of the IUP. According to the recent research, it is difficult to apply the traditional concept of IUP to various regions of Asia, which simply incorporates both chronology and cultural characteristics. Thus, In order to comprehensively explain this period in Asian continent, it is easy to understand the chronology of IUP with ‘Three IUP Variants Model’: 1) Variant I: Traditional IUP region, 2) Variant II: IUP hybridization region, 3) Varient III: Conservative region. This model is possible to broadly setting the various cultural features of the IUP from the Middle-Upper Paleolithic transition to the Upper Paleolithic. In addition, it will be helpful to systematically understand the emergence of modern humans, the diversity of stone tool production systems, and the convergence process of regional industries. Especially, for the interpretation of Variant II, It is necessary more detail studies on the 4th cultural layer of Suyanggae Loc. VI and the early stages of UP in Korea. Research in the early stages of the IUP in the Central and Northern regions of China, including Inner Mongolia, should also be conducted from this perspective.
