초록

이 논문은『三國遺事』에 나타나는 聖顯 가운데, 돌에 집중하여 그 양상과 의미를 분석하였다. 돌은 그 영속성이나 견고함 때문에 자체적으로도 신성시되는 데다가 신성한 존재와의 관계 속에서 성스러움이 새롭게 부각되기도 하는데,『삼국유사』는 그 둘을 드러내기에 적합한 텍스트이다.
첫째, 聖石의 조건과 聖顯의 양상에 대해 살폈다. 성석의 조건은 외형상의 특성과 성현이 되는 이유로 나누어 분석했는데, 돌이 성스러움을 갖게 되는 이유는 돌 자체의 속성에 연관한 경우와 그 돌이 신령스러운 존재와 관계를 맺기 때문에 신성하게 여겨지는 경우로 나뉘었다.
둘째, 상황 맥락에서 성현의 의미를 살폈다. 성현은『삼국유사』의 한 조목 내에서의 맥락뿐만 아니라, 그 조목이 담긴 역사적 맥락, 그리고 자료가 서술된 고려 후기의 상황에서의 맥락 등에 따라 다각도로 읽힐 수 있다. 먼저 자료가 속한 조목 내의 전후 맥락에 따라, 다음으로 그 설화의 배경이 되는 역사적 맥락에 따라, 끝으로『삼국유사』가 서술된 고려후기의 사회문화적 맥락에 따라 최초의 聖顯이 생성되었던 시점을 넘어 그 의미가 연장, 확대되는 것이다.

영어초록

This thesis analyzed the aspect and meaning of a stone among hierophany appearing in The Legend and History of the Three Kingdoms.
First, it looked into the requirement for a holy stone and aspect of hierophany. As for the requirement for a holy stone, it analyzed by dividing its external form and the reason for being a holy stone.
There are two reasons for a stone's having holiness; on the whole, it has to do with the attribute of a stone itself and it is regarded as sacred as the stone has a relationship with a divine spirited being.
In case of hierophany by the category of the proper attribute, a stone has an element making people consider it to be sacred by showing a marvel with its overwhelming size or its floating on the water. Next, in case of hierophany by the relationship with a sacred being, the stone itself looks very common , but a sacred being does something on it or the strength of a sacred being is soaked into it.
Second, this paper took a look at the meaning of hierophany in a situational context. Hierophany could be read differently depending on not only the context in an item of "the Legend and History of the Three Kingdoms" but also the historical context suggested by the item as well as the hierophany-related context under the situation of the latter period of Goryeo.
First, to take a look at an item including data on hierophany, it contained an inevitable reason for becoming a sacred stone depending on the context before and behind.
Next, to go into the historical context, it stands out plainly that it is theophany of special authority in relation to the royal prerogative; for example, they tried to seek political stability by bringing a sacred being's special authority into relief by the medium of a stone, they tried to seek political stability, Finally, in the situational context which stated "the Legend and History of the Three Kingdoms". it is noted that they tried mainly to make a change to encourage pride to confront with foreign power and an emphasis on Buddhist country land.
