가무놀이 「돈돌라리」의 전승 양상과 특징고찰 (A Study of the Transmission and Characteristics of “Dondolari”)

초록

본 연구는 가무놀이 「돈돌라리」의 지역별 전승양식과 특징을 밝히고자 한다. 가무놀이 「돈돌라리」는 함남 북청, 신창, 덕성, 단천, 이원, 갑산, 풍산 지역에 전승되어 온 민속무용이다. 그중 북청이 「돈돌라리」의 발원지답게 가장 유명하여 광범위하게 전승되고 있으며, 그 가락과 춤사위는 상징적이며 복합적인 의미를 내포한다.
이것은 태평과 풍농을 염원하는 사회통합적 기능으로 세시풍속에 연행되었고, 일제 강점기에는 독립운동의 선봉에서 항일의식을 고취하는 놀이로 변화ㆍ발전하였다. 그러나1950년을 전후로 분단이라는 특수한 지역성으로 인해 남북한의 원형이 다르게 전승되는양상을 보인다. 남한의 「돈돌라리」는 원형을 보존하고 꾸준한 전승 활동을 하면서 1998년함경남도 무형문화재 제1호로 지정되었다. 특히 실향문화가 자리잡은 속초지방의 「돈돌라리」는 자발적으로 원형적 재현을 보존하며 꾸준한 전승 활동을 유지하여 지역의 대표적인민속놀이로 자리를 잡았다.
반면 북한의 「돈돌라리」는 사회주의 체제의 정책적 의도와 목적에 의해 현대적 재형상화됨에 따라 변화를 겪고 있다. 이렇게 연행 전승에서 상이한 양상을 보이고 있지만 「돈돌라리」는 향후 남북의 문화적 공감 형성과정에서 주도적인 역할을 해야 하는 민속놀이로지속적인 보존과 전승 활동이 이루어져야 할 것이다. 「돈돌라리」는 연행적 측면에서 살펴봤을 때 가락, 소리, 춤사위 요소가 유기적으로 연관성을 가지며 가ㆍ무ㆍ악이 총체적으로결합 된 민속놀이이다. 특히 가락과 춤사위는 다른 지역에서는 찾아볼 수 없는 고유한 특성들로 인해 「돈돌라리」의 보존ㆍ전승 가치의 이유를 찾을 수 있다.

영어초록

In this study, we investigate the regional transmission styles and characteristics of the representative dance of Hamgyeongnam-do, “Dondolari.” Kamunori Dondolari is a folk dance that has been handed down in the Bukcheong, Sinchang, Deokseong, Dancheon, Iwon, Gapsan, and Pungsan regions of Hamnam. The most famous of these, Bukcheong, is and widely considered as the origin of Dondolari.
Its melody and dance moves are symbolic and convey complex meanings. In the feudal era, its performances played due toa socially integrated function, which is to of wishing for peace and prosperity. During the Japanese colonial period, it developed from the vanguard of the independence movement to a game that has inspired anti-Japanese consciousness. However, around 1950, due to the division of the peninsula, the original pattern was transmitted differently in the two Koreas.
The Dondolari of South Korea has been preserved in its original form and has been continuously transmitted. In 1998, it was designated Intangible Cultural Asset No. 1. In particular, Dondolari in Sokcho, where the culture of the displaced people was developed, voluntarily preserves the original representation and maintains a steady transmission activity, establishing itself as a representative of the region’s local culture. On the other hand, North Korea’s Dondolari has been reshaped in a modern way by the policy intentions and objectives of the socialist system, thus cutting off its original transmission. Although it shows different aspects in terms of transmission of the original form, Dondolari is a folk game that could play a leading role in the process of forming cultural empathy between the two Koreas in the future, and thuse activities of preservation and transmission should be carried out. Moreover, from a performance point of view, Dondolari is a folk game in which melodies, sounds, and dance elements are organically related, and song, dance, and music are combined as a whole. In particular, the preservation and transmission of Dondolari are due to the value of its unique characteristics.
