Looking into the definition for Taekwondo terms

초록

Taekwondo has been selected as an official sports for Olympic Games 4 times in a row, including London 2012 Olympics. Through the Olympics, Taekwondo has successfully gained popularity around the word, greatly contributing to consolidate national prestige for Korea as a leading country in sports field. Nonetheless, as there are some obscurities regarding the terms of Taekwondo, I searched through several literatures, conducted preceding researches, and finally drew following conclusions. First, the leading three organizations' definition for Taekwondo: “Taekwondo” is Korea's scientific, traditional martial art that offends and defends with various techniques using hands and feet, and the purpose of it is in improving mental health as well as quality of life. Second, foreign scholars' definition for Taekwondo: “Taekwondo is a sports unprecedented in world history that received worldwide spotlight in spite of its short history, and it is a scientific and systematic form of sports that develops self-defense function and cardiovascular endurance.” Third, domestic scholars' definition for Taekwondo: “Taekwondo is a dynamic sports as well as a representative culture and an icon for Korea, which has successfully been globalize. through tournament capability, using hands and feet in various angles for offense and defense in different ways.” Forth, educational and academic definition for Taekwondo: According to Kukkiwon(World Taekwondo Headquarters) and a 4-year-course major curriculum for Taekwondo, Taekwondo aims to foster a competent person with both literary and military capacities through various education courses such as basic motions, poomsae, kyorugi, exhibition philosophy, the history of Takwondo, etc. Taekwondo, Taekwondo as the martial art․sports which occurs from Korea has three aspects. First one is the aspect of tournament that the players stay apart, focusing on feet techniques, without using any weapons; second one is the aspect of poomsae that makes defense and hands&feet techniques fit with fixed demonstration line; and the last one is the aspect of exhibition that displays overall features of Taekwondo such as basic motion, poomsae, the art of self-defense, Taekwon gymnastics, breaking, and so on. Based on these three aspects, will be able to define.
