초록

이 글은 양득중의 학문에 나타난 양명학적 성격을 탐색하고 그 사상사적 지위를 밝히고자 한 것이다. 이를 위하여 양득중의 현실진단법, 양명학과의 접촉 가능성, 양명학의 기초이론에 대한 이해를 검토하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 몇 가지 사실을 확인할 수 있었다.
양득중은 당시 현실의 문제점을 ‘虛僞’로 요약하고, 현실구제방안으로 ‘實事求是’를 제시한다. 그리고 허위의 풍습이 유행하게 된 원인을 ‘마음에 근본을 두지 않은 의리의 추구’에서 찾는다. 이것은 心과 理를 분리시킨 데서 허위의 현상이 발생했다고 보는 것으로 王守仁의 현실진단법과 일치한다.
양득중은 朴泰初로부터 經學을 心學으로 읽어내는 독법과 양명학적 지행관을 배웠다. 이로부터 그가 박태초에게서 양명학적 사유를 익혔을 가능성이 있다.
양득중은 양명학의 기본 명제들을 전혀 사용하고 있지 않다. 그럼에도 그의 心體에 대한 이해와 格物致知에 대한 이해에는 양명학적 성분이 농후하게 들어 있다. 그는 實心이 곧 實理요 誠이라고 말할 뿐만 아니라, 모든 사람들이 동일하게 갖춘 것으로 본다. 그 실심은 誠과 明의 통일체로서의 良心이다. 사람의 본심인 그 양심은 일체의 도덕규범을 창출해내는 근원이며, 성대하게 흘러서 萬物과 萬事에 도달한다. 이것은 양명학에서 말하는 ‘心卽理’‧‘心外無理’‧‘心外無物’‧‘心外無事’의 주요 명제들의 의미 내용을 담아낸 것이라고 할 수 있다.
격물치지에 대한 이해에서도 그는 주자의 格致論을 양명학적으로 풀이한다. 주자가 말하는 ‘이미 알고 있는 이치’를 ‘양지가 명백하게 알고 있는 것’으로 풀이하며, 致知도 양지가 이미 알고 있는 當然之理를 미루어 그것을 실천과 내적 자각을 통하여 지극한 데까지 심화시켜가는 것으로 이해한다.
양득중은 또 일상생활에서 良心과 良知를 자기 행위의 준거로 삼는다. 이것은 양명학적인 삶의 태도라고 할 수 있다.
이상의 논의에 근거하면 양득중의 학문을 ‘양명학적 실심에 기반한 실학’으로 규정하는 것이 그의 학문성격에 보다 부합하는 것이라고 하겠다.

영어초록

This thesis is to look into the character of Yang-ming Studies that is expressed in the study of Yang deuk jung(梁得中) and to define the status in the history of Joseon Thought. In order to do this, contemplation of the method of Yang duk jung’s reality check method, possibility of accessing Yang-ming Studies, and understanding of the basic theory of Yang-ming Studies. As a result, the following facts have been detected.
Yang deuk jung summarized the current problems as ‘false’ and presented ‘the Quest for the truth from actualities’ as a the remedy to salvage the reality. Also, he sought ‘pursuing formal fidelity that does not take one’s mind as the core ‘ as the reason why the tradition of false was in trend. This considers the false phenomenon resulting from separating mind and reason and it coincides with the reality check method of Wang Yangming.
In this thesis, from the fact that Yang deuk jung learned how to read Chinese classics theory as the Mind Studies and the theory of the Unity of Knowledge and Action in Yang-ming Studies from Park tae cho(朴泰初), it has stated that Yang deuk jung could have learned the reasoning of Yang-ming Studies from Park Tae cho.
Yang deuk jung does not use the basic propositions of Yang-ming Studies at all. Nevertheless, in his understanding of the Mind itself and ‘gaining knowledge by the Investigation of things’, there are significant ingredients of Yang-ming Studies engraved. He not only states that the Sincere Mind is Substantial reason and Sincerity but also he thinks everyone has it equally. The Sincere Mind is the unified body of conscience composed of Sincerity and Brightness. The conscience is the source that creates the whole moral standards and flow into all things and events. This contains the definitive contents of major propositions of ‘the mind is principle’‧‘there is no reason out of the mind’‧‘there is no thing out of the mind’‧‘there is no event out of mind’ stated in Yang-ming Studies.
In the understanding of ‘gaining knowledge by the Investigation of things’, he explains the Zhuxi’s Theory of Investigation of Things in terms of Yang-ming Studies. The ‘pre‐acknowledged reason’ cited by Zhuxi is explained as ‘the thing that Innate Good Knowing clearly knows’ and ‘the gaining knowledge’ as a reasonable theory that is known by Innate Good Knowing and understands it as deepening it to the foremost through the practice and internal awakening.
Yang duk jung also takes conscience and human nature in everyday life as the standard of one’s self‐behavior. This could be stated as the attitude to life in Yang-ming Studies.
Based on the above discussion, it would be reasonable in terms of the correspondence to the character of his studies to state the study of Yang duk jung as ‘Practical Learning based on the the Sincere Mind of Yang-ming Studies.
