초록

인간의 사유는 세계해석에 있어 크게 변화와 불변에 대한 근본적 입장차이로 나누어진다. 즉 ‘불변적 실체’를 가치의 중심에 두는 사유와 ‘연기적 생성’을 가치의 근본에 두는 사유로 나뉜다. 붓다의 연기법은 고정 불변적 실체를 거부하는 변화와 생성의 세계관이다. 그러나 불교사상의 전개 양상을 보면 실체론적 해석의 구도인 본체/현상의 이원적틀로 불교학을 정초하려는 시도가 빈번히 목격된다. 즉 이(理)/사(事), 성(性)/상(相), 체(體)/용(用), 진(眞)/속(俗), 공(空)/유(有) 등의 양극적계열구분을 불변적 본체와 가변적 현상이라는 이원적 실체론으로 해석하려는 경향을 지닌다.
본 논문은 『기신론』의 일심이문을 생성론적 사유로 해석하려는 시론(試論)이다. 『기신론』이 진여/생멸의 양극적 계열로 구조된 것은 사실이지만, 이를 본체와 현상 이분의 실체론적 해석에서 구출하고자, 생성자와 생성성을 구별하는 생성론적 차이를 제시하여 이문구조를 해석하고자 한다. 또한 그러한 해석의 구체적 적용으로 『기신론』의 대표적 해석자로서 원효와 탄허를 선정하여 생성론적 관점을 기준삼아 만남을 도모했다우선 원효의 경우 그가 이문(二門)을 별체로서 이해하지 않고, 상호포괄과 불가분리의 관점으로 소통시키려 한 것을 생성론에 충실한 해석으로 평가하며, 생성성의 생성자에 대한 초월적 측면을 진여문으로보고, 생성성의 생성자에 대한 내재적 측면을 생멸문으로 해석함으로서 원효의 의도를 보다 정치하게 이해할 수 있다고 보았다. 한편 탄허의 경우 그의 회통론은 연기법의 생성론적 사유의 반성을 거치지 못한인상론적 실체주의 사유로 간주될 여지가 있으며, 특히 『기신론』의 일심(一心)을 시공을 초월한 기독교의 불변적 창조주와 같은 것으로 보는 해석은 불교를 실체론적 사유와 혼동한 것이라고 평가된다

영어초록

The human intellect is fundamentally divided in its interpretation of the world between the perspectives of change and permanence. It is separated into reasoning that centers around the concept of 'immutable substance' and reasoning that places 'generative interdependence' at the core of values. The interdependence doctrine(緣起法) in Buddhism rejects the notion of fixed, immutable substances, emphasizing a worldview of change and creation.
However, in the development of Buddhist thought, attempts to establish Buddhist studies within a framework of substantial interpretation can be frequently observed. These attempts involve dualistic categorizations such as essence(理)/appearance(事), nature(性)/form(相), substance(體)/function (用), ultimate(眞)/conventional(俗), emptiness(空)/existence(有), interpreting these polarized classifications as a dualistic substantial philosophy of immutable substance and mutable phenomena.
This paper is a tentative discourse attempting to interpret the One Mind(一心) doctrine in the Qixin-lun(起信論) from a perspective of generative reasoning. Although it is true that the doctrine is structured as a polarized system of substance and phenomena, this discourse seeks to rescue it from the substantial interpretation of dualistic substance as reality and phenomena. It aims to interpret this doctrinal structure by distinguishing between ‘Create itself(生成性)’ and ‘Creation(生成者)’, presenting a generative reasoning difference. Furthermore, as a specific application of such interpretation, this paper selects Wonhyo(元曉) and Tanheo(呑虛), prominent interpreters of the Qixin-lun(起信論) and seeks a meeting point based on a generative perspective.
Firstly, in the case of Wonhyo(元曉), his understanding of the dual gates(二門) not as separate entities but as perspectives of mutual inclusiveness and indivisibility is evaluated as an interpretation faithful to generative reasoning. On the other hand, Tanheo(呑虛)'s theory of integration may be seen as a speculative realism that has not gone through the reflection of generative reasoning in the doctrine of interdependent occurrence(緣起法) in Buddhism. Particularly, his interpretation that views the One Mind(一心) in the Qixin-lun(起信論) as the unchangeable creator of Christianity that transcends time and space is evaluated as a confusion of Buddhism with substantial reasoning.
