元代 八思巴 文獻 硏究 導論 (A Study on Phags-pa Text Written at Yuan Dynasty)

초록

이 글은 파스파자 문헌 연구를 위한 선행 작업의 성격으로서, 파스파자의 문자 성질과 표기법, 파스파자 문헌의 보존과 연구현황, 그리고 파스파자 몽골어와 이에 대한 원대 직역체백화문의 대응상황 등을 살펴 본 것이다. 파스파문헌은 주로 석각된 비문으로 존재하고 있는데, 파스파문자로는 몽골어 외에 중국어 등 여러 언어를 기록하고 있다. 이들의 비교 연구를 통해 몇 가지 특징을 찾을 수 있다. 첫째, 파스파로 몽골어를 기록한 경우 그에 부가된 중국어는 백화문이며, 파스파가 중국어를 기록한 경우는 대체로 문어체이다. 파스파로 몽골어를 기록한 경우 공포 일시를 12지지로만 기록하지만 중국어를 기록한 경우에는 연호를 사용한다. 파스파 몽골어 서사에는 동일 단어의 여러 가지 이체자 및 오자가 보이며, 한 단어를 두 행에 나눠 쓴 것도 보인다. 파스파 몽골어에 부가된 백화문은 대체로 직역체이지만 몽골어 원문과는 敍法 등의 차이가 나타나는 경우도 있고, 일부 어휘는 번역에서 삭제되기도 한다. 이번 연구에서는 이들의 유형을 소개하고, 이에 대한 본격적인 분석 자료는 다음 연구에서 제시하게 될 것이다.

영어초록

As a preliminary work of the researches in Phags-pa text, we have observed some appearances including the nature of a character and the writing method of the Phags-pa script; present conditions of preservation and researches of the Phags-pa text's; and the correspondence of Mongolian in Phags-pa text with Chinese which translate the Mongolian of Won dynasty metaphrastically. Abbreviate the summary of the general context, we can bring up next three points about the archival characteristic of Phags-pa inscriptions as follows.

1. There are some different tendencies between two kinds of texts. The Chinese ranlation added beside the Monglian by Phags-pa script write spoken Chinese while some Phags-pa scripts write classical Chinese originally. And the former only uses the twelve terrestrial branch to record the issue time, on the other hand, the latter uses the Chinese era name.

2. There are many variant form and misswritten words in Phags-pa Mongolian records. The length of line (the number of letter in each line) are not fixed, and the words are often separated into two lines when they come to the bottom of the lines. These might be caused by the writing of that time when the orthography was not established like today, meanwhile there could be a positive cause that these were produced in the process of copying the Mongolian text before stone carving.

3. Spoken Chinese of Won dynasty which is added beside the Phags-pa Mongolian has a tendency to correspond the original text and can be admitted as a metaphrastic translation. Existing researches mostly place emphasis on defining the correspondency between two texts. However, we can find several sentences which can be hardly admitted to be a rigid metaphrase. For examples, there are some words which the Mongolian text has but the Chinese translation doesn't have. And some words are not certain to translating the Mongolian words in original text exactly. And some sentences have exchanged the subjects of verbs (ex: "Don't pay taxes"→"Don't collect taxes"). So it seems more close and wide researches to be needed into not only the correspondence but also the in-correspondence of these texts. We hope to present some futher analyses about these materials.
