세차운동에 따른 항성 황도대와 회귀 황도대의 비교연구 ― 서양 점성학을 중심으로 ― (Comparison of Zodiacs According to Axial Precession -Focusing on Western astrology and the Zodiac-)

초록

점성학의 분야에서 사용하고 있는 천궁도(天宮圖, Horoscope)는 황도대의 기준에 따라 두 가지로 나누는데, 항성 황도대(恒星黃道帶, Sidereal Zodiac)와 회귀 황도대(回歸黃道帶, Tropical Zodiac)로 구분한다. 본 고에서는 이 둘의 중요한 차이와 그 의미를 밝혀보고자 한다.
두 체계의 핵심 차이점은 지구 세차운동의 반영 여부이다. 지구의 자전축이 한 바퀴 회전하는 데 약 26,000년이 걸리며, 세차운동의 발견 이후 점성학에서는 항성 황도대와 회귀 황도대라는 두 가지 기준이 생겼다. 춘분점은 약 72년마다 약 1°씩 동쪽에서 서쪽으로 이동하며, 세차운동의 반영 여부에 따라 두 황도대 사이에는 약 24°의 차이를 보인다.
점성학에서 사용되는 황도대에 따라 운명 감정의 결과가 다르다. 동일 인물의 생년월일시를 두 가지 황도대에 근거해 비교하면, 그 차이가 명확히 드러난다. 본 고에서는 특정 인물의 출생 천궁도(出生天宮圖, Nativity)를 분석해 보았는데, 항성 황도대에서는 거해궁으로 귀결, 회귀 황도대에서는 사자궁으로 귀결되어 12궁의 소속이 다름을 확인했다. 이는 세차운동으로 인한 당연한 효과이기도 하다.
점성학에서 어떤 황도대를 적용하여 운명을 감정하느냐는 전적으로 점성가의 몫이다. 그러나 그에 앞서 이 둘의 차이가 가지고 있는 본질적인 의미에 대해서 생각해 볼 필요가 있다. 천궁도나 황도대는 천문 현상을 바탕으로 만들어진 도구이며, 천문 현상은 역법에 반영되었다. 따라서 천문을 관찰하는 이유는 실제 생활에 필요한 계절을 비롯한 시간관념을 제대로 파악하여 현실을 유익하게 하기 위한 것이 본질이다. 점성학은 천문학과 역법의 발전 과정에서 탄생한 학문이므로 황도대는 천문학과 역법의 정신을 반영해야 한다고 생각한다. 이런 점에서 볼 때 회귀 황도대가 천문학과 역법의 본질을 가장 잘 구현한 황도대라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

In the field of astrology, horoscopes are divided into two types based on the zodiac: sidereal zodiac and tropical zodiac. This paper aims to clarify the important differences between the two and their significance.
The fundamental difference between the two systems is the axial precession of the Earth. It takes about 26,000 years for the Earth's axis to rotate one full circle. As a result of the discovery of axial precession, there are now two different criteria in astrology, the sidereal zodiac and the tropical zodiac. Due to the axial precession, which manifests itself as the vernal equinox moving approximately 1 degree eastward every 72 years, there is a difference of approximately 24 degrees between the two zodiacs used in astrology today.
The results of fortune-telling in astrology differ depending on which zodiac is used. This difference can be clearly seen by checking the two zodiacs based on the birth time of the same person. Therefore, this paper compares the natal horoscopes of the same person. In the case of the sidereal zodiac, it results in the Aquarius sign, while in the case of the tropical zodiac, it results in the Leo sign. This difference in the 12 signs can be seen to be approximately 24 degrees, which is also a natural effect of axial precession.
In astrology, it is entirely up to the astrologer to decide which zodiac to use to fortune-tell. However, before that, it is necessary to think about the meaning of the differences between the two. Horoscopes and zodiacs are tools created based on astronomical phenomena, and astronomical phenomena are reflected in the calendar. Therefore, the purpose of observing the sky is to properly grasp the concept of time, including the seasons that are necessary for real life, and to make reality beneficial. In other words, astrology is a science that was born in the process of the development of astronomy and the calendar, so the zodiac should reflect the spirit of astronomy and the calendar. In this respect, the tropical zodiac can be said to be the zodiac that best embodies the essence of astronomy and the calendar.
Therefore, the tropical zodiac is the more accurate and appropriate zodiac to use in astrology. It is the zodiac that most accurately reflects the actual astronomical phenomena and the spirit of astronomy and the calendar.
