대순진리회 수행의 실제 (The Actuality of Daesoonjinrihoe Practice)

초록

모든 종교에는 각기 궁극적으로 지향하거나 추구하는 종교적 이상과 목표가 있다. 이때 종교적인 수행(修行)은 해당 종교의 교인들이 그러한 이상과 목표를 실현하기 위해 실천하고 노력하는 일체의 행위들을 가리킨다. 수행이 이상세계를 향한것이긴 하지만 그 출발은 현실과 밀착되어 있어서 현실적인 문제의 해결과 극복이곧 수행이라 할 수 있다. 이러한 관점에서 필자는 대순진리회 수행의 유형적 방법으로 ‘훈회(訓誨)와 수칙(守則)’, ‘포덕(布德)과 교화(敎化)’를 간과할 수 없다고 생각한다.
현재 대순진리회는 일부 수도인들이 도법에 어긋나는 방법(거리포덕)을 취하여사회적인 물의를 일으킴으로서 부정적인 이미지로 비춰지는 부분들이 있다. 이는지난 46년 동안 급격한 양적 성장을 맞이한 대순진리회가 자체 정비 시간을 제대로갖지 못했던 점과 수도인들이 대순진리회의 종교적 이상과 목적에 대한 이해 부족이란 점에서 실제적 수행법인 포덕에서 몇몇 불미스러운 일이 발생했다고 보인다.
그러므로 대순진리회의 수행에 관한 바른 이해는 그 종교의 이상과 목표에 관한 이해로부터 설명될 때 충실해질 수 있으며, 수행의 실제적 방법 역시 이러한 맥락에서그 의미가 올바로 전달될 수 있을 것이다. 이를 위해 대순진리회가 궁극적으로 지향하는 ‘상생세계’와 이상적 인간으로서의 ‘도덕군자’의 의미와 가치를 살펴보았고, ‘상생세계’에 사는 ‘도덕군자’가 되기 위한 유형적 수행의 방법으로서 ‘훈회와 수칙’ 및 ‘포덕과 교화’에 주목하였다.
대순진리회의 유형적 수행이 추구하는 것은 결국 상생의 법리에 부합하는 생활화다. 이것은 곧 인간이 인존으로서의 ‘도덕군자’가 되는 것이고 후천선경으로서의 ‘상생세계’를 현실에 구현하는 것이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 생활 속의 수행으로서 ‘훈회와 수칙’, 도덕 실천의 수행으로서 ‘포덕과 교화’를 바르게 실천할 필요가있다. 본 논문은 대순진리의 이상과 목표에 관하여 다시 한번 되짚어보는 유의미한작업이 될 것이며 여기서 다루는 수행의 실제적인 방법들 역시 바른 수행으로 다가서기 위한 초석이 될 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

In every religion, there is a religious ideal and objective which itaims or pursues on an ultimate ground. Here, the religious practicedesignates the whole behaviors which practises and strives forrealizing the ideal and objective. Yet, despite its directivity towardsideal world, the starting point of practice lies in reality. Practice isthe thing which adheres to the real world while solving andovercoming the problems of reality. Thus, practice should not beisolated from, nor be disregarded irrespective of reality. With thisoutlook in mind, I propose that we can neither overlook theimportance of commandments, ethical principles, nor propagation oredification.
At present, Daesoonjinrihoe is shone a negative image in thatsome cultivators are active in propagating contrary to the ordinancesof Do. On the one hand, it is because Daesoonjinrihoe could notsecure enough time to reflect its own way to development due tothe rapid quantitative growth of 46 years. On the other hand, lackof understanding of cultivators on the religious ideal and objectivewhich Daesoonjinrihoe attempt to realize should be the other reasonthat they have committed disgraceful behaviors in the course of their propagation which should be an actual method of cultivation.
Therefore, the right understanding on the practice of Daesoonjinrihoecan be obtained faithfully when it is explained from the ideal andobjective of this religion, and the right meaning on the actual methodof practice can be conveyed in that context. To achieve this goal,firstly, I have overviewed the meaning and value of the world andhuman being that Daesoonjinrihoe is ultimately aiming at. ‘Theworld of mutual beneficence’ as an ideal world, and ‘the moral manof its virtue’ as an ideal man provides for the normative justifiabilityfor an actual practice. Secondly, I have focused on commandments,ethical principles as well as propagation and edification as an actualpractice to become a ‘moral man of virtue’ living in ‘the world ofmutual beneficence.
In conclusion, the aim of practice in Daesoonjinrihoe is makingResolution of grievances to the mutual beneficence of all life andRepaying gratitude to the mutual beneficence of all life. By makingthese principles the basic way of life, man can become ‘moral withone’s own virtue’ and to realize ‘the world of mutual beneficence’as an earthly paradise of the Later world in reality. To achievethese objectives, one has to perform a ‘propagation’, ‘edification’ aswell as ‘commandments’ and ‘ethical principles’ as an actual practicein life.
With this critical mind, this research is expected to be a meaningfulwork retracing its steps to reflect on the ideal and objective, andthrough this reflexion, it is also hoped that the actual method ofpractice can strengthen its basis to edge closer to the right practicein life.
