唐代 四川省 莊嚴觸地印如來像에 대한 硏究 – 彌勒如來像과의 관련성을 중심으로 (A Study on "The Ornate Buddha Image in Bhumisparsa mudra" in Sìchuān Province during the Táng China : With a Focus on Relevance of Maitreya Buddha)

초록

莊嚴觸地印如來像은 불교 도상의 수용과 변용이라는 문제를 생각해 볼 때 해당 지역의 해석을 통해 도상이 얼마나 다양하게 변화할 수 있는지 보여주는 상이다. 특히 중국 사천지역에서 확인되는 장엄촉지인여래상은 형태상 다양한 상이확인 될 뿐만 아니라 다른 尊格의 여래상과 함께 제작되는 특징이 있다.
四川地域의 장엄촉지인여래상은 당 초기 長安으로부터 사천의 북부지역으로유입되었으며, 이후 金牛道, 米倉道를 경유하여 成都로 전파되었을 것으로 추정된다. 이후 성도 주변으로 확산되면서 큰 유행을 하였다.
이후 마하보리사 성도상이라는 상징적인 의미를 가지고 있었던 장엄촉지인여래상은 중국적인 해석을 통하여 다양하게 변모되었으며, 그중에서 미륵여래상과함께 제작된 예는 晩唐까지 그 작품을 남기고 있다. 이렇게 오랜 기간 지속적으로제작될 수 있었던 것은 장엄촉지인여래상과 미륵여래상의 구성이 敎學的인 근거안에서 종교의 가르침을 실천하는 在家信者에 의해 지속적으로 요구되었기 때문으로 해석된다.
初唐代 이후 장엄촉지인여래상은 華嚴世界觀에 근거를 둔 ‘盧舍那(毘盧遮那 佛)’로 제작되어 現在佛로 해석되기 시작한다는 점에서 미래불인 미륵여래와 시간적인 연속성 안에서 연결되는 부분이 있다.
한편, 장엄촉지인여래상의 銘文에서 확인되는 ‘菩提瑞像’의 본질은 ‘祈願’을 하는 신앙자들의 입장에서 미륵여래와 관련성이 있다. 보리서상이 業障을 소멸하고재앙이나 수명을 연장하는 현세구복적 문제들에 대해 기원 할 수 있는 대상이었다면 미륵은 亡者의 사후세계 및 남겨진 신앙자들의 미래를 구제해 줄 수 있는 종교적 역할을 기대할 수 있는 대상이었기 때문이다.
서로 다른 존격을 하나의 龕 안에 조성하여 그 영험력의 극대화를 기대하고자한 것은 민중들에 의해 공유되었던 신앙에 기반을 두었음이 분명하다. 이는 곧 사천지역의 지역적 특수성 뿐만 아니라 사천지역 민중불교의 한 부분을 살펴볼 수있는 대상이라고 할 수 있겠다.

영어초록

The Ornate Buddha Image in Bhumisparsa mudra is a sculpture which shows how the sculpture can be changed in variation through the interpretation in corresponding district in consideration of the issue of acceptance and transfiguration of Buddha sculpture. Especially, The Ornate Buddha Image in Bhumisparsa mudra found at the Sichuan, China confirms the various sculptures in its shape and they are characterized to be produced together with Buddhist sculptures of differentiated high grade.
The Ornate Buddha Image in Bhumisparsa mudra in Sichuan province was introduced from Changan at the early of Tang Dynasty to northern area of Sichuan. It is estimated that it was propagated to Chengdu via Jinniudao(金牛 道) and Micangdao(米倉道). Later it was very popular while it expanded around the Chengdu.
Later on, The Ornate Buddha Image in Bhumisparsa mudra, which had the symbolic meaning of Mahabodhi Temple sculpture, had been transfigured in variety through the Chinese translation. Out of them, the cases made together with Maitreya sculpture left the workpiece till later Tang Dynasty. The reason of production consistently for such a long time was because the configuration of the Ornate Buddha Image in Bhumisparsa mudra and Maitreya sculpture was requested consistently by the home stayed believers who carried out the regional teachings within the educational rationale.
The Ornate Buddha Image in Bhumisparsa mudra after the early Tang Dynasty is connected with the Maitreya within timely continuity in the point to be interpreted as a present Buddha made to the ‘Locana Buddha image(the Vairocana Image)’ based on a view of the Avatamska world.
On the other hand, the nature of 'Putiruixiang' found from the carved writing on the Ornate Buddha Image in Bhumisparsa mudra is related to Maitreya in the position of the believers who worship. Maitreya was an object expected for its religious role which can rescue the future of the deceased people world of post death and left believers if ‘Putiruixiang’ was an object to worship for the issue of present world fortune seeking which eliminates the karma and extends the life. It is evident that to expect the maximization of the miraculous power by complicating different grade entities into a single tower based on the belief share by the public. It can be said directly that it is an object to look into a part of the public Buddhism in Sichuan in addition to the regional specialty of Sichuan area.
