조선후기 밀양 밀성박씨 인당공파의 종계 운영과 문중 활동 (Operations of the Clan Fund and Activities of Individuals–The Milseong Park House’s Indang-gong line of the Milyang area, in the latter half period of Joseon)

초록

이 글은 경상남도 밀양의 초동면 신호리 일대에 세거하던 밀성박씨 忍堂公派 朴守堅 후손가를 사례로 하여, 이들의 조선후기 지역사회 내에서의 위상과 후손들의 문중 활동에 대해 검토하였다.
인당공파의 入鄕, 지역 내 동향과 관련한 특징으로 첫째, 인당공파 박수견 후손가는 派祖 朴昭의 부친 朴翊이 고려 왕조에 충절을 보였다는 점, 박수견이 시묘살이를 통해 효를 실천했다는 점은 밀양 내 이들의 위상과 발언권이 지속될 수 있는 계기가 되었다.
둘째, 인당공파에서는 일찍부터 墓祭 봉행을 위한 宗契가 조직되어 후손들의 결집을 도모하고 있었다. 종계는 선산의 위치에 따라 여럿 마련되었으며, 계원들의 지속적인 참여와 확대로 19세기까지 이어졌다는 것도 특징이다.
셋째, 박수견이 선대 분묘를 수호하기 위해 지은 초막인 慕先亭은 후손들에게 혈연의식을 공유하고 연대와 결속을 다지기 위한 중요한 구심점으로 작용하였다. 또 19세기 초 문중서원으로 출범한 德南書院 또한 여러 문중 활동의 기반이 되었다.
넷째, 인당공파가 다른 박씨 제파와 참여한 爲先 활동으로는 밀성박씨 대동보 편찬에의 참여, 문중서원의 건립, 齋室 정비, 문집 간행과 선조 박익에 대한 현창사업을 들 수 있다. 이와 같은 일련의 과정은 후손들의 혈연적 결집을 가져왔을 뿐만 아니라 밀양에서의 인당공파 문중의 사회적 위상을 제고시키는 데도 기여했다.
끝으로 이 집안 사례 외에도 조선후기 문중의 범위와 문중의 조직화 배경을 규명하기 위해서 친족간 宗契, 族契에 대한 종합적 분석이 후속될 필요가 있음을 강조하였다.

영어초록

Examined in this article is the descendants of Park Su-gyeon(朴守堅), of the Indang-gong Line(忍堂公派) of the Milseong Park House, people who lived for generations in the Chodong-myeon Shinho-ri area of the Gyeongsang Nam-do province’s Milyang region. They represent an example of a local house that established itself in the history of the Yeongnam region during the Joseon dynasty’s latter half.
The characteristics that we can find from the Indang-gong line’s entry into the region(“Ibhyang, 入鄕”), and their activities in the area, are as follow.
First, Park Ik(朴翊), father of Park Soh(朴昭) who was also the founder of the Indang-gong line, was an individual who remained loyal to the late Goryeo dynasty. And one of his descendants, Park Su-gyeon practiced himself filial piety by establishing a hut near his parents’ graves and staying there to mourn their deaths.
Second, the Indang-gong line ran a clan fund(Jong’gye, 宗契), which had been organized fairly early on and had contributed to the solidarity of the descendant community for a long time. The primary objective for establishing this clan fund was to facilitate services at grave sites, namely the Myoje(墓祭) ceremonies.
Third, there was a pavilion named Moseon-jeong(慕先亭), a thatched cottage erected by Park Su-gyeon with the intention to have it exist as a center from where the graves of the clan’s ancestors could be overseen and protected. This cottage/pavilion was also built to reinforce the clan descendants’ consciousness of the importance of the clan’s internal bond and strengthen the unity amongst clan members, and the cottage continued to serve as symbol of the clan’s resolve to firmly maintain itself. Another symbol for the Indang-gong line was the Deoknam Seoweon(德南書院). Together, both Moseon-jeong and Deoknam Seoweon served as a platform for the clan members’ activities.
Fourth, members of the Indang-gong line also joined larger ceremonial occasions with other Park lines for the ancestors of the greater Milseong Park House, such as participating in the publication project for the Daedong-bo Genealogy of the Milseong Park clan, foundation of Clan Seoweon schools, renovation of the Jaeshil(齋室) chamber where tablets for the ancestors were enshrined, compilation of personal anthologies for house ancestors, and commemoration of Park Ik, who was founder of the Park clan (in the Milseong area) itself.
