인혁당 사건의 소설적 수용 (Fictitious acceptance of the Inhyeokdang incident -Focused on the narrative strategy of the series 『Pu-leun hon』-)

초록

인혁당을 둘러싼 공식 담론은 조작이다. 2차 인혁당 사건이 발생한 지 30년이 훌쩍 지난 2008년에서야 사건 관련자들의 무죄판결이 확정됨으로써 이 사건은 일단락되었다. 작가 김원일이 인혁당 사건을 소설화한 시기는 1974년 4월을 둘러싼 법리적 판단이 한창 진행되던 때였다. 본고에서는 김원일의 『푸른 혼』(2005)이 허구의 틀을 빌려 어떠한 방식으로 인혁당 사건을 복원하고 형상화하고 있는지 살피고, 그 가운데 활용한 서사화 전략을 분석하고자 했다. 그 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 소설 『푸른 혼』은 인혁당 사건이 반공 유신 냉전시대에 자행된 국가폭력의 결과라는 공식담론의 문학적 버전에 해당한다. 소설은 ‘인혁당 8인의 개인사’와 ‘인혁당 사건의 실체’라는 두 서사를 결합하고 있다. 6편의 소설은 미시적 차원에서 그간 베일에 싸여 있던 인혁당 8인의 생애에 초점을 두고 이들의 출생에서 죽음에 이르는 비극적 개인사를 부각하는 한편, 이들 인물 간 얽히고설킨 관계를 연작 형태로 보인다. 이들 연작을 관통하는 개인사는 실제 희생자의 삶과 닮아 있다. 따라서 소설집 『푸른 혼』을 구성하고 추동하는 문제의식의 중심에는 인혁당 8의 죽음을 애도하는 비체험자의 증언이 놓여 있다 하겠다.
둘째, 1960-70년대를 바라보는 작가의 현실인식은 일정 시간이 지난 후에 소설쓰기로 가능했다. 그럼에도 불구하고 『푸른 혼』에서는 합법을 가장한 사법살인, 독재권력 유지를 위한 횡포, 연좌제, 억압당하는 인간성, 진보적 변혁운동의 실패 등 좌파 지식인들을 억압했던 극우 반공이데올로기의 역사적 불구성을 비판하려는 작가의도를 엿볼 수 있었다.
셋째, 소설의 제목 『푸른 혼』은 과거사의 진실이 밝혀져 인혁당 8인의 명예가 회복된다하더라도 불귀의 객이 된 그 사실은 변할 수 없다는 것을 상징적으로 드러낸다. 작가는 인혁당의 구체적인 이념지향이나 활동상보다는 국가 폭력에 의해 희생당한 개인의 삶과 그 가족들의 억울한 심정, 그 정서를 공유하는 데 무게를 두고 있다. 다시 말해 인혁당을 바라보는 작가의 시선은 수난에 머물러 저항까지 나아가지 못했다. 인혁당을 바라보는 수난의 시선은 독자들도 인정하고 있는 바이다. 결론적으로 『푸른 혼』은 동일한 질량으로 인혁당의 수난의 서사와 저항의 서사를 안배하지 못한 불균형 서사로, 이 사건에 대한 인식의 지평을 확대하는 데 한계가 있다 하겠다.

영어초록

The official truth surrounding the Inhyeokdang incident, which was an underground organization for overthrowing the state is the manipulation by the Korean government at that time. Not until 2008 when the people concerned were found no guilty more than 30 years later was the second Inhyeokdang case over. The time background of the novel is April, 1974 which was in the middle of a trial about Inhyeokdang incident. In this paper, I tried to analyze how Kim Won-il's 『Pu-leun hon』(2005), called Pu-leun hon in Korean, borrowed a fictional framework to reconstruct and shape the case of Inhyukdang incident. The results are summarized as follows.
First, The novel 『Pu-leun hon』 is a literary version of the official discourse that the event of Inhyeokdang was the result of national violence committed during the Cold War period. The novel consists of a combination of two narratives-the personal history of the “eight innocent individuals” and “the reality of the Inhyeokdang incident.” The novel focuses on 8 members' lives of Inhyeokdang who have been wrapped in a veil so far on a microscopic level, and shows the tragic personal history from their birth to death, while showing the entangled relationship between these characters. the characters' history of the story is similar with real victims' one because this novel was written based on the fact.
In other words, it was found that the ‘testimony’ of the non-experienced persons such as their family members and villagers lies in the center of the critical mind of the writer that constitutes and drives up the novels.
Second, It is not until a recent date that it is possible for the writer to create this kind of novel which was brought out an ideology argument which was a social taboo in the Korean society in the 1960s and 70s. In this book, recognition of the artist's view of the 1970s, including the seemingly legal murder of the judiciary, the tyranny for maintaining dictatorship, the humanity to be oppressed, the failure of the progressive transformation movement, and the recognition of reality intends to criticize the historical unconformity of the extreme right, anti-communist ideology that oppressed left wing intellectuals .
Third, the novel, Blue Soul, is trying to show that even though the innocence of the 8 individuals involved is revealed through the trial, it is impossible to bring the wrongful death of the victims back to original states. The author shared the unfair feelings and emotions of the victims and their families who were victimized by the violence of the state rather than the ideological orientation or activity of the Inhyeokdang. The artist′s eyes on the Inhyeokdang remain only suffering without progressing to resistance. The reader′s view of the hardships of the Inhyeokdang is also empathized by readers. Therefore, 『Pu-leun hon』 can be regarded as an imbalance narrative which fails to arrange balance between the suffering and resistance of the Inhyeokdang properly. there is a limit to expanding the range of recognition of this case.
