초록

풍물사는 실제 연행현장에 몸담고 있는 연행자들에 의해 매순간 새롭게 생성되고 있으며, 그 인식과 관념은 풍물판을 공유한 사람들의 기억 속에 살아있다. 풍물사는 ‘과거의 사실’과 ‘기록의 한계’를 넘어야하는 과제를 안고 있다. 풍물 전승의 상황과 맥락, 풍물을 연행하던 집단의 역사와 연행자의 삶, 풍물을 향유하던 전승주체의 경험이 얽힘 유래담에 주목하는 것은 이 때문이다. 이 글에서 안동 지역의 가송과 수동 마을을 대상으로 공민왕의 안동 몽진이라는 역사적 사실이 풍물 전승과 어떤 관계에 있는지, 실제 풍물 연행자가 구전하는 유래담의 구전양상은 어떠한지 살폈다. 마을 안팎의 풍물판을 공유한 주민들은 마을풍물의 유래와 의미를 스스로 되새기며 생성해간다. 그런까닭에 주류 역사에서 소외되어온 풍물을 역사화 할 때 주민들에게 구전되는 마을풍물의 유래담에 귀를 기울일 필요가 있다. 전설처럼 공유되는 동신의 영험이라든지 풍물에 관한 이야기에는 풍물 전승자의 개인적 체험 뿐 아니라 사회적 경험이 담겨있는데, 이것이 마을풍물의 맥락을 살필 수 있는 열쇠가 된다. 기억의 파편이나 단편적인 구술 일지라도 모으고 찢고 꿰어 재구성하는 과정을 통해 삶의 역사와 문화가 농축되어 있는 풍물사를 엮어내는 것이 가능하다. 풍물은 마을 공동체 구성원의 공유된 체험을 불러일으키는 문화이기 때문이다. 마을에 전승되는 풍물의 유래는 끊임없이 주민들의 신앙과 놀이를 통해 재현되면서 과거가 아닌 현재의 역사로 거듭나고 있다공민왕 신앙의 전통을 지닌 청량산 일대의 가송리의 풍물패가 공민왕의 따님인 서낭님을 모시고 산성마을로 친정가기를 한다면, 수동마을에서는 공민왕을 동신이자 국신으로 일컬으며, 이웃의 여러 마을이 공동으로 3년에 한 차례씩 별신굿판을 벌렸다. 민속마을로서 보존과 전승이 활발한 하회마을에 비해 수동마을은 별신굿이 전승되었음에도 하회별신굿에서 연행되는 탈놀이에 가려 그간 부각되지 못한 면이 있었다. 그런데 탈놀이와 관련하여 하회마을의 특징과 고려시대의 역사적 상황과 유래가 강조되었다면, 탈의 형상을 확인할 길이 없지만 풍물의 전승이 왕성했던 수동의 사례 또한 주목할 필요가 있다. 수동마을 풍물의 유래가 위로부터의 역사, 역사의 단절과 문화적 중층성을 보여준다면, 가송마을 풍물은 아래로부터 침윤된 역사와 현재에도 재현되는 역사적 사건과 의식, 산업화 이후 안동지역 마을풍물의 전승과 판도를 읽게 해준다. 마을 안팎의 풍물판은 과거로부터의 역사와 현재의 역사, 위로부터의 역사와 아래로부터의 역사가 교차하고 공존하는 현장이기도 하다. 문헌에 포섭된 발생론적 진화론에 머무르지 않고 ‘차이와 다양성이 공존하는 살아있는 현재의 풍물사’, 그 의미가 실현되는 현장으로서 마을 풍물의 정체와 실제 양상이 주목된다.

영어초록

The history of Pungmul performance(institutions and customs) is newly generated every moment by active Pungmul performers and the awareness and idea of Pungmul are alive in the memory of people who shared the Pungmul place. The origin of Pungmul which has been transmitted in a village is continuously born again as the history of today, not of past, as it is reproduced in the faith and performances of the residents. The history of Pungmul should not stay at the developmental evolution theory relying on existing literature but it should pay attention to the real identity and actual appearance of village Pungmul as a ‘present history of Pungmul, where difference and diversity are alive and coexist’. The history of Pungmul has the task that it should overcome the ‘fact in the past’ and the ‘limitation of a record’. This is why the history of Pungmul should pay attention to the situation and context of Pungmul transmission, the history of Pungmul performing group, the lives of Pungmul performers and the origin tales which contains the experience of Pungmul transmission parties. This article explored the relationship between the Pungmul transmission and the historical fact of King Gongmin’s flight from his palace to Andong and the oral transmission aspect of origin tale, which is orally transmitted by Pungmul performers at the Gasong village and Sudong village in Andong.
The Pungmul group at Gasong-ri in Cheongryangsan area has traditional faith on King Gongmin. The residents of Gasong-ri perform Chinjeong-gagi to Sanseong village of Seonangnim, who is the daughter of King Gongmin. On the other hand, the residents of Sudong village worshipped King Gongmin as a village spirit and national spirit. They performed Byeolsin gut (a performance by a shaman) once in every 3 years together with several villages nearby. Compared to Hahoe village, which is a folk village with active preservation and transmission, Sudong village has not been well known to people though it has the transmission of Byeolsin gut; because people were attracted to the ‘mask dance’ performed in Hahoe Byeolsin gut. If the historical situation and origin of Goryeo period and the characteristics of Hahoe village have been emphasized in relation to the mask dance, the cases in Sudong village should also get attention because it also has active transmission of Pungmul though it is not possible to confirm the appearance of the mask for Sudong village. The origin of Sudong village Pungmul shows the history from upside, the severance of history and the duplicity of culture. On the other hand, the origin of Gasong village Pungmul tells the history spread up from downside, the historical events and awareness still being reproduced now and the dynamics and transmission of Andong area village Pungmul after the industrialization.
The Pungmul place in and around a village is the place, where the past history and present history, the history from upside and the history from downside cross each other and coexist. Especially in case of a village Pungmul, which has been created and transmitted by native residents, the people who shared the Pungmul place recall it and make the origin and significance of it. Therefore, it is necessary to listen to the orally transmitted origin tale of a village Pungmul from the residents when a Pungmul, which had been estranged from main stream history, is historicized. The tales on the miracles by village spirit shared like a legend or the tales on village Pungmul contain the personal experience and social experience of Pungmul transmitters; therefore, they become the key to explore the context of village Pungmul. They may be a fragment of memory or a fragmentary oral statement but it is possible to compile a history of Pungmul with condensed culture and history by collecting, tearing, threading and reconstituting them; because Pungmul is the culture, which calls the shared experience of village community members.
