구전설화 속 ‘방뇨담(放尿譚)’의 양상과 의미 : 분뇨서사에 투영된 소피(所避)행위의 아브젝시옹과 그로테스크 (Aspects and Meanings of ‘Pissing’ in Oral Legends: Abjection and Grotesque of Urinary Action Projected into the Manure Narrative)

초록

생명의 발원이며 신비스러운 액체인 물은 때로 생명체 내부에서 바깥으로 환원되는 현상을 보이는데 가령 땀, 눈물, 콧물, 침, 그리고 오줌이 여기에 해당될 것이다. 이들은 모두 수분(水分) 그러니까 물기를 지닌 대상들이다. 여기에서는 몸 바깥으로 배출되는 수분 중 가장 지저분하다고 여겨지는오줌만을 주목하였다. 배출인 동시에 배설인 방뇨에 대한 서사적 고민을 담아본 것이다. 인간의 배설은 공교롭게도 고체〔방분〕․ 액체〔방뇨〕․ 기체〔방귀〕 의 모든 형태를 고루 갖출 줄 안다. 연구자는 앞서 똥과 방귀에 대한 고찰을시도한 바 있으며 이들에 대한 서사적 관찰을 보다 용이하게 하고자 ‘분뇨서사’라는 용어를 만든 바 있다. 본고에서도 이를 활용한다. 분뇨서사로서방뇨담 분류로부터 보다 나아가 배설의 윤리적 문화 관습의 흔적을 보고자했다. 이를 통해 단순히 위생적 차원과는 또 다른 배설 행위를 담아낸 방뇨담의 ‘이면(裏面)’을 조심스럽게 추정해 보았다. 다만 여기에서의 ‘윤리’란‘윤리학’으로의 엄밀한 의미를 지닌 학술과 학문체계로의 윤리이기 보다느슨한 의미로의 ‘윤리’로 사용하였다.
고전서사 속 방뇨담을 ‘발복형 방뇨담, 약재형 방뇨담, 생활형 방뇨담, 성애형 방뇨담, 전설형 방뇨담, 바보형 방뇨담’의 여섯 가지로 분류해 보았다.
➊ 발복형 방뇨담에는 방뇨몽을 꾸어 매몽행위로 이어지며 권력을 쟁취하는 서사와 임신과 출산으로 이어지는 소피행위를 소개한 방뇨담이 해당된다. ➋ 약재형 방뇨담은 소변이 일종의 약재로 사용된 경우에 해당한다. 서사 속 주인공의 몸을 보호해주는 역할을 하는데 약재형 방뇨담은 역사인물과 결부되어 전설형 방뇨담이 되기도 한다. ➌ 생활형 방뇨담은 방뇨가 거름의 역할을 수행하는 점을 부각하거나 요강 등 소피와 연관된 물건을 소재로 한 이야기가 해당된다. ➍ 성애형 방뇨담은 발복형 방뇨담과 전설형 방뇨담에 해당되는 신화소로의 소피행위가 성적 화소로 전락한 경우라 하겠다. 여성의 경우 노상방뇨가 남성을 이끌어 두 남녀 모두 위기를 맞이하거나, 남성의 경우 여성 전승집단의 육담대상이 되고 만다. ➎ 전설형 방뇨담의 경우 거인여신, 영웅의 어머니가 남긴 흔적이 담기거나 역사인물의 비극적 결말을 설명해주는 장치로 활용되기도 한다. ➏ 바보형 방뇨담은 혼인서사와 연관되어 꼬마신랑, 바보사위, 바보며느리의 위생관념과 관계된 이야기로 소개된다. 방뇨담은 분뇨서사의 맥락에서 일종의 배설 윤리를 지닌 서사로 이해할 만하다. 여섯 갈래 방뇨담 모두 도덕적 가치를 내포한 일정한금기요소를 지니고 있기 때문이다.
➊ 발복형 방뇨담에는 오줌꿈이나 소변행위가 지닌 가치에 대한 금기가권력이동, 부의 생산, 자녀출산 등에 작동되고 있음을 깨닫게 해주었으며, ➋ 약재형 방뇨담의 경우에는 인물의 죽음을 지연하는 데에 오줌이 활용될만큼 오줌의 약효에 관한 금기가, ➌ 생활형 방뇨담에서는 농업생산에 있어 함부로 할 대상이아니라는 금기가, ➍ 성애형 방뇨담에서는 유혹의 상징으로 주의를 하게 만드는 금기가, ➎ 전설형 방뇨담에는 신화적 방뇨행위의 흔적이 금기로 남았으며, ➏ 바보형 방뇨담에서는 해학대상으로 전락한신화의 끝자락을 일종의 웃음이 주는 금기로 이해하게 한다. 이들 방뇨담속의 금기는 방뇨의 신성함, 비범함을 윤리적 금기로 담아내고 있음을 확인해 보았다. 따라서 이를 ‘배설의 윤리’라고 칭하였다. 나아가 윤리의 잣대는각각의 방뇨담에 공포의 그로테스크 또는 해학의 그로테스크 미학을 통해작동됨을 확인할 수 있었다.

영어초록

Water, the source of life and a mysterious liquid, sometimes shows a phenomenon of being discharged from the inside a living-being in the form of sweat, tears, runny nose, saliva, urine and as the like. These are all kinds of water with various ingredients. In this thesis, I pay attention exclusively to urine, which is considered to be the dirtiest of the moisture discharged from the body. This is an epic worry about urination, which is both discharge and excretion. Human excretion, fortunately, knows how to equip all forms of solid [dust], liquid [urine], and gas [fart]. Researchers have previously attempted to examine poop and farts, and coined the term “manure narrative” to make narrative observations about them easier. This is also used in this thesis. As a manure narrative, I wanted to go beyond the classification of urine stories and look at the traces of the ethical, cultural practices of excretion. Through this, I carefully estimated the “side” of a pissing dam that contains an excretion behavior that is different from a simple hygienic dimension. However,'ethics' here is used as 'ethics' in a looser sense rather than as an academic term or an academic system that has an austere meaning as ‘thics’.
I have classified pissing stories in the classic narrative into six categories: ‘Popular Pissing Story, Medicinal Pissing Story, Life Pissing Story, Sexual Pissing Story, Legendary Pissing Story, and Fool’s Pissing Story’. ➊ Pissing-type pissing stories includes a narrative of having a pissing dream, leading to an act of plum dreaming, and gaining power, and a pissing story that introduces the act of Sophie leading to pregnancy and childbirth. ➋ Medicinal pissing is applicable when urine is used as a kind of medicinal material. It protects the body of the protagonist in the narrative, and the yakjae-type pissing story is also associated with a historical character and becomes a legendary pissing story. ➌ Life-style pissing story emphasizes that pissing plays the role of manure, or is a story about objects related to Sophie, such as a guideline. ➍ Sexual pissing talk is a case where the act of sophistication to a mythical place, which is a legitimate pissing talk and a legendary pissing talk, and then the case turns into a sexual motif. In the case of women, on-street urination lures men and both men and women face a crisis, or as for men, they become the targets of sexual intercourse by the seducing women's intoxication. ➎ In the case of a legendary pissing story, it is used as a device to contain the traces left by the giant goddess and the mother of a hero, or to explain the tragic ending of historical figures. ➏ The foolish pissing story is related to the marriage narrative and is introduced as a story related to the hygiene concept of the little bridegrooms, foolish son-in-laws, or foolish daughter-in-laws. These pissing stories are understandable as narratives with a sort of excretory ethics in the context of excretion narratives. This is because all six pissing stories have certain taboo elements that contain moral values.
➊ Pissing-type stories make people realize that the taboos on the value of pee dreams or urine acts are operating in power transfer, wealth production, and childbirth. ➋ Medicinal pissing stories are used to delay the death of a person. The taboo on the medicinal effects of urine can be used in the body for survival. ➌ Life-style pissing stories carry the taboo that pissing is a material that is not to be treated carelessly for agricultural production. ➍Sexual pissing talks contain the taboo that makes you pay attention to pissing as a symbol of seduction for sexual love. ➎ Legendary pissing talks contain the taboo of leaving traces of mystical pissing. The traces of the mythical pissing act remained a taboo in the brother's pissing story. ➏ The foolish pissing stories have taboo that presents the laughter at the end of humorous stories.
It was confirmed that the taboos in these pissing stories contain the sacredness and idosyncrasy of pissing as an ethical taboo. Therefore, I called this ‘the ethics of excretion’. Furthermore, the standard of ethics could be confirmed to work through the grotesque of fear or the grotesque aesthetics of humor on each urinary stories.
