Air blowing step was important for adequate bonding strengths of dentin bonding system. But we didnʼt know that how
change of air-blowing pressure affected on bond strengths of each dentin bonding systems.
The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strengths of four dentin bonding agents to evaluate the technique
sensitivity of four different adhesive systems using different air-blowing pressure.
120 sound human molar were divided into 8 groups of 15 teeth, and the following dentin bonding agents were used: 1)
Acid etching adhesive; Adper
TM
Single bond 2(3M ESPE, USA) 2) One-step self etching adhesive; Clearfil
®
S3
BOND(Kuraray, Japan) and G-BOND
TM
(GC, Japan) 3) Two-step self etching adhesive; Clearfil
TM
SE bond (Kuraray, Japan).
The teeth of the first group were randomly assigned for bonding with gentle air-blowing pressure(1 kg/㎠
). For the teeth of
the second group, the four adhesive systems were applied with strong air-blowing pressure(5 kg/㎠
). The buccal and lingual
surfaces of human molars were ground flat to expose dentin and treated with the each bonding system according to
manufacturerʼs instruction and followed by composite resin(diameter 3 mm, height 1 mm) application. After soaking in 37℃
water for 24 hours, the shear bond strength of specimens were measured using a universal testing machine at a crosshead
speed of 1 mm/min.
Following results were obtained :
1. The shear bond strengths of Adper
TM
Single bond 2 were significantly lower with strong air-blowing than with gentle
air-blowing(P<0.01).
2. The shear bond strengths of Clearfil
®
S3 BOND and G-BOND
TM
were not statistically different between strong
air-blowing and gentle air-blowing group(P>0.05).
3. The shear bond strengths of Clearfil
TM
SE bond were lower with strong air-blowing than with gentle air-blowing(P<0.01).
However, Clearfil
TM
SE bond showed the highest shear bond strength than any other experimental groups.
Therefore, we did know that one-step self etching adhesives clinically had less affects on technique sensitivity.
