단가 <사시풍경(이산저산)>의 음악적 특징과 전승 양상 (Transmissions and Musical Characteristics of the Danga "Sasipoongyung(Sacheolga)")

초록

판소리 단가(短歌)는 판소리 공연에 앞서 창자가 목을 풀고, 소리판을 정리하는 등의 분위기 전환을 위하여 부르는 짧은 노래를 지칭한다. 이것은 장가(長歌)인 판소리에 대한 상대적인 개념으로 붙여진 이름으로 볼 수 있다.
단가의 정확한 연원은 알 수 없으나, 역사적으로 단가라는 말은 20세기 이후 주로 사용되었다. 단가의 초기 명칭은 영산(靈山) 또는 허두가(虛頭歌)이며, 대체로 18세기 후반 무렵에 형성되었을 것으로 추정되고 있다. 19세기 들어 본격적으로 단가는 많은 창자들에 의하여 연창되면서 다수의 작품이 만들어졌다.
그 중 단가 <사시풍경>은 1960년대에 김연수에 의해 만들어진 것으로 알려져 있다. 이것은 이후 그가 정리한 동초제 판소리를 전승한 제자들을 중심으로 오늘날까지 연행되고 있는 소리이다.
김연수의 단가 <사시풍경>은 세월의 덧없음을 사계절의 자연 풍경에 비유하여 노래하면서 자신이 마땅히 해야 할 일을 하면서 놀아보자는 내용으로 구성되어 있다. 음악면에서 나타나는 특징은 우조나 평조로 짜여있는 일반적인 단가와는 다르게 계면조 악조로 구성되어있다. 1옥타브 반의 중간 음역대를 사용하고 있으며, 일시적인 변청도 활용되고 있다. 또한 꺾는음을 꺾지 않고 도 음을 흘려서 표현하는 경우도 나타났다. 붙임새는 대마디대장단·엇붙임·잉어걸이·밀붙임·괴대죽 등 5가지가 사용되었다.
단가 <사시풍경>의 전승을 통한 변화 양상을 정리하여 보면 다음과 같다. 김연수의 단가는 오정숙이 전승하였지만 곡명, 사설, 선율, 붙임새 등에서 변화를 보이고 있다. 곡명은 <사시풍경>에서 <사철가>로 바뀌었으며, 사설 역시 첨삭이 있다.
음악면을 살펴보면, 오정숙은 김연수와 같이 1옥타브 반의 중간 음역대에서 소리를 구성하고 있다. 오정숙의 선율과 붙임새에서 변화되는 양상은 다음과 같다. 하나는 선율은 유사하나 붙임새에서 변화되는 경우와 다른 하나는 선율이 다르게 짜여 있는 경우이다.
따라서 김연수의 단가 <사시풍경>은 오정숙에게 전승되면서 곡명의 변화, 사설의 가감과 선율·붙임새 등에서 변모가 이루어졌다. 그리고 오정숙의 <사철가>는 이일주에게 전승되면서 선율과 붙임새 등의 일부에서 변화가 나타났다.
판소리 단가는 구비전승되는 음악이므로, 그 특성상 전승과정에서 다양한 변모 양상이 나타난다. 김연수의 단가 <사시풍경> 역시 동초바디라는 동일한 법제 안에서 전승의 층위에 따른 변화를 보이고 있다. 스승에게 소리를 사사하여 그 소리를 후대에 전승하되, 그 과정에서 나타나는 변화는 판소리 음악의 다양성과 예술성을 표현하는 당위성일 것이다. 그리고 그 당위성이 지금의 시대를 표현하는 판소리 미학이라 할 수 있다.

영어초록

Pansori danga refers to a short song, sung by traditional Korean narrative singers to sort out the stage and change the atmosphere before a pansori performance. This can be seen as a relative concept for Pansori, which takes a long time to sing the entire song.
The exact origin of danga is unknown, but historically, it has been practiced since the 20th century. The early names of danga, "yeoungsan" and "hudooga" (meaning preperation song), are presumed to have been used from the late 18th till early 20th century. In the 19th century, danga gained popularity among Korean traditional narrative singers, and many pieces were produced during this time.
Among them, the danga "Sasipoongyung (four seasons' landscape)" is known to have been composed by Kim Yeon-su in the 1960s. This piece is performed even today, mostly by his disciples, who were also handed down Dongchojae pansori, which he arranged later.
Kim Yeon-su's danga "Sasipoongyung" compares the fading of time to the changing natural landscapes of the four seasons, and it contains contents that we should play while still doing what we ought to do. Some of its musical characteristics are as follows it is usually performed in Wu, which is the highest note in the Korean pentatonic scale, or in a lower pitch that is closer to the major. Unusually, however, Kim’s danga is in the Gyemyeonjo tone, which evokes sadness. While singing, one and a half octaves of the mid-voice range are used, along with temporary modulation . There is also an instance in the song where the Do sound is shed without being broken. Buchimsae, which is used to overcome the monotony of music and add a musical sense, has five types: Daemadidaejangdan, Utbutchim, Inghuhguri, Milbutchim and Gwaedaejook.
A summary of the transformation of danga "Sasipoongyung" can be derived from its inheritance process, as follows: Kim Yeon-su's danga was handed down to Oh Jung-sook, but with some changes to the title of the song, Sasul, melody, and Buchimsae.
The name of the song was changed from "Sasipoongyung" to "Sacheolga", and a correction to the Sasul was also made.
With respect to the musical aspects of the danga, Oh Jung-sook composed its sound in the middle range of one octave and a half, like Kim Yeon-su. The changes made to the melody and Buchimsae are as follows: one is similar to the other in melody, but if the Buchimsae is changed then the other takes on a different linear rate.
To summarize, adjustments title of the song as well as in its Sasul, and changes to the melody, and the Buchimsae of Kim Yeon-su's danga "Sasipoongyung" were made by Oh Jung-sook. Similarly, when Oh’s "Sacheolga" was handed down to Lee Il-ju, further changes in some parts of the melody and Buchimsae were made.
Since pansori danga is an inherited musical piece, various aspects of its transformation are apparent in its tradition. Kim Yeon-su's danga "Sasipoongyung" shows a change in the layers of its tradition within the same legal system called Dongchobadi. When studying Sori from a teacher and passing it on to the next generation, the changes that occur in the process serve to express the diversity and artistry of pansori music. They enhance the aesthetics of pansori expression in the present age.
