최영미 시연구 - 『서른, 잔치는 끝났다』를 중심으로 - (Choi Young-Mi's Poetry Study: Based on “30 years old, the party is over”)

초록

본 연구는 1994년 베스트셀러 시집인 최영미의 『서른, 잔치는 끝났다』에서 절제된 낭만성과 아이러니를 발견하고, 일시적이고 충동적인 시인의 사랑관과 대중적인 인기를 누리게 된 원인을 추적한다. 작품보다 대중의 반응만을 평가의 대상으로 삼았던 기존 비평들과 달리 시 자체 주목하여 최영미의 시선과 이를 공유받은 대중의 내면을 살핀다. 특히 표제시인 「서른, 잔치는 끝났다」에 담겨있는 시인의 울림과 시선을 따라가면 시에 투영된 절제된 낭만성과 표현의 아이러니를 발견하여 시인에게 집중된 논란에서 벗어나 시대의 감각을 발견할 수 있다. 또한 시에 변덕스럽게 나타나는 시적 화자의 감정과 충동적인 행위를 의도와 다르게 대중을 위한 호소로 읽는다면 시집을 재평가 할 수 있다. 이는 무질서와 방황의 시대였던 1990년대 초에 최영미가 대중에게 건넨 의미를 찾아, 시인에게 덧댄 논란에서 벗어나 시만을 온전히 바라볼 기회를 마련한다.
최영미 시에서 문득 떠오르는 고통스러운 기억의 반복과 희생자들에 대한 자책이 실은 지극히 자연스러운 현상임에 주목한다. 최영미는 시의 노골적이고 직설적인 표현법은 의도하지 않게 차마 드러낼 수 없는 감정의 당위성을 확보하고 대중을 대신해 시로 호소한다. 이러한 시인의 차가운 위로가 대중에게 큰 공감을 샀을 것이라 보고, 어떤 방식으로 시인의 삶과 시선을 그렸는지 깊이 연구한다. 시를 자칫 감정적이고 충동적인 시인의 반응으로만 평가한 기존 해석과 달리 본 연구에서는 직설적인 표현 뒤에 존재하는 고통의 응시와 아직 끝나지 않은 ‘잔치’를 사유하는 최영미 시를 탐구한다.

영어초록

This study analyzes Choi Young-mi's 1994 bestselling book of poetry, “Thirtieth, the Feast is Over,” based on the poet's temporary and impulsive view of love and ideology that completely deviated from the gaze of the 1980s. For analysis, we confirm the reputation and perception of Choi Young-mi's poem, which was the most popular of the time, and analyze the meaning of love that appears repeatedly in the poem. Unlike previous criticisms that evaluated only the public's reaction rather than the work, it examines Choi Young-mi's gaze and the inner side of the public who received it by paying attention to the poem itself. In particular, if you pay attention to the poet's inner resonance and voice contained in the headline poem “Thirtieth, the Feast is Over,” you can find an understated romanticism and irony of expression. In addition, if the poetic speaker's emotions and impulsive behaviors that appear erratically in poetry are known, it can be analyzed as an appeal and comfort for the public. By logically approaching the purpose and intentions of Choi Young-mi's poem, we try to find the meaning that Choi Young-mi gave to the public in the early 1990s, an era of disorder and wandering. It emphasizes that the painful memories that suddenly come to mind and the blame for the victims is actually a very natural phenomenon. Choi Young-mi secures the legitimacy that was inevitable with an explicit and straightforward expression and appeals to poetry on behalf of the public. I believe that the poet's cold comfort must have gained great sympathy from the public, and I want to take a deeper look at how he drew the poet's life and gaze in an atmosphere of the times when even direct consolation is difficult. Unlike the previous interpretation, which evaluated poetry only by the emotional and impulsive response of the poet, this study explores Choi Young-mi's poetry by thinking about the pain of staring behind the straightforward expression and the unfinished “party.”
