하나님 나라의 사회 변혁적 성격을 이해하기 위한 기독교교육의 과제 (The Task of Christian Education to Understand the Social Transformational Nature of God's Kingdom)

초록

기독교교육의 주요 과제는 예수가 전한 하나님 나라 복음을 그리스도인들에게 가르치고, 하나님 나라 운동에 참여하도록 교육하는 것이다. 그러나 기독교 역사에서 하나님 나라는 희랍적 관념 체계 따라 사후 개인의 영혼이 구원받아 이르는 ‘천국’ 개념으로 이해되었다. 기독교는 히브리인들이 고백했던 하나님의 통치가 모든 억압과 지배를 폐지하는 사회 변혁적 성격이 있다는 사실을 망각함으로써, 이 땅에 실현되는 하나님 나라에 대한 희망을 기독교 신앙으로 뿌리내리지 못하였다. 이 땅에 실현되는 하나님 나라를 증언하지 못했던 교회는 하나님 나라의 도구로서 역할을 상실하였고, 하나님 나라 실현을 저해하는 상황에서도 침묵의 길을 걸어왔다. 그 결과 현재 우리는 하나님 나라 실현만이 희망인 상황, 즉 분열과 갈등, 지배와 억압이라는 비평화적 상황과 생태계 파괴라는 생존 위기상황 속에 살아가고 있다.
그러므로 기독교교육은 하나님 나라의 사회 변혁적 성격에 대한 이해를 통해 그 나라 실현에 참여하는 성숙한 그리스도인을 양육해야 할 것이다. 이를 위해 필자는 성서가 증언하는 하나님 나라의 의미를 이해하기 위해 희랍적 관점에서 벗어나 ‘히브리신앙 전승’ 맥락에서 교육할 것을 제안하고자 한다. 히브리인들은 ‘출애굽 사건’을 통해 하나님은 역사와 무관한 초월자가 아니라 역사 속에서 인간구원을 위해 일하는 살아계신 하나님으로 고백하였다. 하나님은 인류가 저지른 억압과 착취, 평화 부재를 극복할 ‘샬롬’을 약속하였다. ‘유대인 예수’는 히브리신앙 전승 위에서 이러한 하나님의 약속을 구현하고자 하였으며, 그의 삶과 가르침은 하나님 나라를 위해 투쟁하는 ‘참 혁명가’의 모습을 보여주었다. 이러한 하나님 나라를 재발견하기 위하여 노력한 라가츠(Leonhard Ragaz), 칼 바르트(Karl Barth), 헬무트 골비처(Helmut Gollwitzer)의 통찰들은 하나님 나라 복음이 현세의 사회를 변혁하는 ‘혁명성’을 가지고 있다고 주장하였다. 그들에게 자본주의 체제는 하나님 나라 운동을 저해하는 근본 원인으로서 인식되었다. 기독교교육은 이러한 통찰의 근원을 이루는 히브리신앙 전승을 토대로 성서, 하나님, 예수에 대해 새롭게 학습함으로써 하나님 나라의 사회 변혁적 성격을 이해하고, 오늘날 하나님이 우리 사회에서 무엇을 변혁해 나가고자 하는지를 발견하여 그 일에 참여하는 기독교 신앙을 가질 수 있도록 도와야 할 것이다.

영어초록

The main task of Christian education is to teach Christians the gospel of the kingdom of God preached by Jesus and to educate them to participate in the movement for the kingdom of God. However, in Christian history, the kingdom of God has been understood as the concept of ‘heaven’, where individual souls are saved and reached after death according to the Greek conception system. Christianity lost the socially transformative character of the reign of the living God that the Hebrews confessed, and the hope for the kingdom of God realized on this earth failed to take root in the Christian life. The church, which failed to testify to the realization of the kingdom of God on this earth, lost its role as an instrument of the kingdom of God and walked a path of silence even in situations that hindered the realization of the kingdom of God. As a result, we are currently living in a situation in which the realization of the kingdom of God is our only hope, that is, in a non-peaceful situation of division and conflict, domination and oppression, and a survival crisis of destruction of the ecosystem. In this crisis situation, Christian education faces an urgent task of nurturing mature Christians who participate in the realization of the kingdom of God through an understanding of the socially transformative nature of the kingdom of God. In order to understand the meaning of the kingdom of God that the Bible testifies, it is necessary for Christian education to break away from the Greek point of view and educate it to understand it in the context of “tradition of the Hebrew faith.” Through the “Exodus Event,” the Hebrews came to have faith in a living God who works for human salvation in history, not in a transcendental God unrelated to history. God promised “Shalom” to overcome the oppression, exploitation, and absence of peace committed by mankind. “Jewish Jesus” tried to embody this promise of God based on the tradition of the Hebrew faith, and his life and teachings showed the image of a “true revolutionary” fighting for the kingdom of God. The insights of Leonhard Ragaz, Karl Barth, and Helmut Gollwitzer who worked to rediscover the kingdom of God assert that the gospel of the kingdom of God has the ‘revolutionary’ that transforms the present world, not the afterlife. To them, the capitalist system was perceived as the root cause of hindering the movement for the kingdom of God. Christian education needs to learn anew about the Bible, God, and Jesus based on the tradition of the Hebrew faith that forms the source of this insight. This can help us understand the socially transformative nature of God's kingdom and discover what God is trying to transform today.
