‘일[羽能]’의 해석: 인류탄생신화의 한자고고학적 전석 (Interpretation on ‘Yi’[羽能]: Literal Archaeological Interpretation of the Myth of Human Birth)

초록

전국(戰國)시대 초(楚)나라 계열 문자에서 집중적으로 나타나고 있는 일[羽能]은 우(羽)와 능(能)으로 구성되었음이 매우 분명함에도 이의 구체적 의미와 독음은 물론 창제 의미조차도 잘 해독되지 않은 글자이다. 본 논문에서는 일[羽能]의 창제의미와 문화적 상징을 파헤쳐 다음의 결론을 얻었다.
(1) 일[羽能]은 일(一)의 단순한 가차자가 아닌 의미적 함의를 가진 이체 관계로 보아야 하며, 이는 능(能)에 우(羽)가 더해져 분화한 “從羽能聲(羽가 의미부이고 能이 소리부)”의 형성구조로 보는 것이 합당하다.
(2) 일[羽能]은 일(一)의 갖은자인 일(壹)에서 그 창제원리를 찾을 수 있는데, 일(壹)이 ‘호리병박에서 탄생한 인류의 탄생신화’를 반영했듯, 일()도 ‘곰에서 탄생한 인류의 탄생신화’를 반영하였다 할 수 있다. 이러한 전통은 각종 민속 인류학 자료, 고고학자료, 문헌 기록 등에서 다양한 증명이 가능하며, 초(楚)나라 역대 왕의 이름에 예외 없이 웅(熊)자가 든 것이나 진(秦)나라의 성씨인 영(嬴)이 곰 토템과 관련되었다는 점에서도 확인할 수 있다.
(3) ‘호리병박에서 인류가 탄생했다’는 원형의식을 일(壹)이라는 자형에 담음으로써, 이러한 의식이 일(壹)이나 일(一)로 하여금 단순한 숫자 ‘1’이 아니라 모든 만물을 생성하는 원기(元氣)이자 도(道), 일자(The One)로서의 의미를 담도록 하였다. 따라서 이와 동일한 글자인 일[羽能]도 동일한 함의를 가졌다 볼 수 있다.
(4) 나아가 이러한 신화의식은 ‘호리병박’이나 ‘곰’ 뿐 아니라, ‘새’ 토템과 관련된 상(商) 민족의 은허 유적과 사천성의 삼성퇴(三星堆) 유물, ‘곡물’ 숭배와 관련된 강소성 연운항(連雲港) 장군애 암각화 등의 상징연구로 확장이 가능하다.
(5) 이러한 증명은 문자 연구를 신화와 인류학 자료, 고고학 자료, 문헌학 자료 등과 상호 검증을 통해 증명한다는 측면에서 ‘사중증거법’이라 할 수 있다. 이러한 연구방법은 ‘사중증거법’을 통해 한자 자체가 아니라 그 배후에 숨겨진 문화의식을 찾는다는 점에서 ‘한자고고학’이라 부를 수 있는데, 본 연구는 일[羽能]의 실증적 연구를 통해 이의 이론적 구축 가능성을 높이도록 하였다.

영어초록

In the Chu characters of the Warring States period, the structure of the word , which is composed of Yu(羽) and Neng(能), is very clear, but its structural rationale, original meaning, specific meaning, pronunciation, etc. have not been completely deciphered. In particular, why it is commonly used with the word '一' has not been thoroughly analyzed. This paper comprehensively analyzes this word and draws the following conclusions.
First, '[羽能]' should be regarded as a variant relationship with the same sound and meaning as '一', especially '壹', and should not be regarded as a borrowed word for '一'. Its structure is the phonological structure of "from the feather to the sound(從羽能聲)", which is differentiated from the '能' plus the '羽' symbol.
Second, the reason for the creation of the word '[羽能]' can be found from the big character '壹' of '一'. Just as the character '一' reflects the myth of the birth of human beings of 'gourd born man', '' also reflects the myth of human birth of 'bear born man'. This tradition and traces can be proved in various ways in the anthropological data, archaeological data and documentary records of various ethnic groups in various places. In addition, the lineage of the King of Chu contains the tradition of the bear character and the origin of the Ying(嬴) surname of the Qin(秦) state, which is also related to the bear totem.
Third, express the prototype consciousness of "gourd begets people" in the shape of one(壹) character, making ‘一’(壹) not only the number "one", but the root of all things, generating the vitality of all things , can reach the highest status of "Tao(道)", which is equivalent to "The One" in the West. For the same reason, ‘[羽能]’ also acquires the same meaning.
Fourth, these mythological consciousnesses are not only manifested in the worship of "gourd" and "bear", but also related to the relics of the Shang Dynasty Yin Ruins related to the "bird" totem, the new relics from Sanxingdui in Sichuan, and the worship of grains in the rock paintings of General Cliffs in Lianyungang, Jiangsu, etc. Totems of other ethnic groups in the region.
Fifth, this kind of proof can be called the "Four-proof Evidence Method", which is proved by mutual verification of philological materials, mythological anthropological materials, archaeological materials, and philological materials. Therefore, this research method can be called "Chinese character archaeology". Through the empirical study of ‘[羽能]’, this paper ensures another rationale of the theory and improves the feasibility of the research method.
