충주지역 누암리ㆍ하구암리 고분의 위계분석 (An Analysis of the Hierarchies of the Ancient Tombs in Nuam-ri and Haguam-ri in the Chungju Area)

초록

충주는 자연･지리적인 조건과 철제무기와 농･공구류의 생산에 필요한 철과 원료, 교통로 등의 기반 조건을 모두 갖춘 곳이다. 이곳에 진출한 신라는 소경을 설치한 후 왕경의 귀족자제와 6부의 부유한 백성들을 사민시켜 거주하게 하였다. 이들은 지배계층으로 누암리와 하구암리 일대에 그들의 묘역이 대규모로 위치하고 있다. 그리고 각 고분들 상호간에는 분명히 위계의 차이가 존재하였을 것이다. 이는 신라사회가 신분제사회로 신분에 따른 위계의 차이가 존재하였으며, 이는 지방인 소경에서도 동일하게 적용되었을 것이다.
따라서 피장자의 신분이나 위계를 상징할 수 있는 대금구를 주목하였으며 또한 피장자의 성격을 판단할 수 있는 이식과 곡옥･구슬 등 장신구류, 철도자･철겸･철제족집게 등 농･공구류, 鐵鋌 등도 함께 검토하였다. 먼저 대금구의 유무를 중심으로 크게 4개의 유형으로 설정하였다. 제Ⅰ유형은 대금구와 이식이 출토되는 유형, 제Ⅱ유형은 대금구가 출토되는 유형, 제Ⅲ유형은 이식이 출토되는 유형, 제Ⅳ유형은 대금구와 이식이 출토되지 않는 유형으로 구분하였다. 또한 각 유형은 대금구의 재질과 부장유물의 공반양상에 따라 각각 세분하여 군으로 분류하였다.
피장자의 위계는 대금구의 재질에 의해 금동제 대금구가 출토되는 것을 상위위계, 은제 대금구가 출토되는 것을 중위위계, 청동제와 철제가 출토되는 것을 하위위계로 설정하였다. 그리고 대금구의 재질에 따라서 평면형태나 면적도 차이를 보인다는 것이다. 즉, 상위위계는 금동제인 제Ⅰ유형 가군으로 방형에 중앙연도인 ⅠC형, 면적은 대형(c)에 해당한다. 중위위계는 은제인 제Ⅰ유형 나군으로 방형에 우편연도인 ⅠB형, 면적은 대형(c)이다. 하위위계는 청동제와 철제인 제Ⅱ유형 가군과 나군으로 방형에 우편연도인 ⅠB형, 면적이 중형(b)에 해당한다. 이처럼 대금구의 재질에 따라 평면형태와 면적에서 확연한 차이점을 보인다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

영어초록

The Chungju area is a region equipped with all the basic conditions such as iron, raw materials, and traffic routes along with natural and geological ones needed to produce iron weapons and farming tools. Having advanced into this region, Silla established this region as one of its minor capital units(小京) and colonized this region with the children of the nobility from the royal capital and the rich people from 6 Bus. These people formed the ruling class of this minor capital unit and their tombs are located in a large number in Nuam-ri and Haguam-ri. In addition, there might have existed a clear hierarchial difference between these ancient tombs. This is because Shilla was a hierarchy society with a hierarchial difference, which might haven been applied equally to this minor capital unit.
In this regard, in this study, a special attention was paid to the belt fittings that symbolize the statuses or hierarchies of the buried persons as well as to their earrings and accessories such as comma-shaped jades and beads and their farming tools such as iron knives, iron sickles, iron tweezers, iron ingots, and others that reveal the buried persons' personalities. Based on the presence or absence of belt fittings, the following four types of the tombs were set up: TypeⅠ, from which belt fittings and earrings were excavated; Type Ⅱ, from which belt fittings were excavated; Type Ⅲ, from which earrings were excavated; Type Ⅳ, from which neither belt fittings nor earrings were excavated. In addition, each of the types was subdivided into 2 groups according to the materials of the belt fittings and the association aspects of the burial accessories.
The tombs were classified into the following tombs of hierarchies according to the materials of the belt fittings of the buried persons: tombs of upper hierarchy, from which gold belt fittings were excavated; tombs of middle hierarchy, from which silver belt fittings were excavated; tombs of lower hierarchy, from which bronze or iron belt fittings were excavated. In addition, there was also the difference in the shapes and the areas of the planes of the tombs according to the materials of the belt fittings. In other words, the tombs of the upper hierarchy fall under Group Ga of Type Ⅰ for gold belt fittings and have square planes of large size(c) and Type ⅠC of the access way to the burial chamber in the center. The tombs of the middle hierarchy fall under Group Na of TypeⅠfor silver belt fittings and have square planes of large size(c) and Type ⅠB of the access ways to the burial chambers to the right. The tombs of the lower hierarchy fall under Group Ga and Na of Type Ⅱ for iron belt fittings and have square planes of middle size(b) and TypeⅠB of the access ways to the burial chambers to the right. As stated above, it can be confirmed that there is the clear difference in the shapes and areas of the planes according to the materials of the belt fittings.
