숙련 아동중심 놀이치료자의 진정성 경험 과정에 관한 질적 분석 (A Qualitative Analysis on the Experience Process of Experienced Child-Centered Play Therapists’ Authenticity)

초록

본 연구는 숙련 아동중심 놀이치료자들이 치료현장에서 진정성을 어떠한 과정을 통해 경험하고 있는지를 탐색하여, 구체화된 이론적 작업을 하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 숙련 아동중심 놀이치료자 5명을 연구 참여자로 선정하여, 연구 참여자별로 3∼4회의 개별 면담을 실시하였다. 그리고 해석학적 근거이론 방법(Rennie, 2000, 2006, 2007, 2012)을 적용하여, 연구 참여자들의 구술 자료에 대해 범주 구성과 기술, 핵심범주, 과정 분석을 실시하였다. 첫째, 범주 구성을 통해 15개의 의미단위, 7개의 하위범주, 3개의 범주가 도출되었다. 3개의 범주는 ‘아동을 인간으로 존중하고자 하는 마음가짐’, ‘한 인간이라는 전체로 치료자 자신의 내적인 경험을 알아차림’, ‘치료자로 자신의 내적인 경험을 외적으로 표현함’이며, 구체적인 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 숙련 아동중심 놀이치료자의 진정성은 아동을 한 인간으로 존중하고자 하는 마음가짐에서부터 시작하였다. 2) 숙련 아동중심 놀이치료자의 진정성은 치료자 자신의 감정과 욕구를 알아차리고, 아동이 경험하고 있는 상황이나 마음을 알아차릴 수 있는 것이었다. 3) 숙련 아동중심 놀이치료자의 진정성은 치료자의 반응과 행동이 개인의 감정과 욕구에서 기인된 것이 아닌지와 치료적인지를 여과하고, 방식과 시기를 조율하여, 언어나 비언어적인 메시지로 자신의 내적인 경험을 표현하는 것이었다. 둘째, 구성된 범주를 통합하여, 끊임없는 너-나 알아차림을 통해 ‘진정한 나’로 존재함이 ‘치료적인 나’로 되어가기라는 핵심범주를 상정하였다. 셋째, 과정 분석을 통해, 진정성 깨우기, 진정성 알아차리기, 진정성 돌려주기의 3단계가 도출되었다. 본 연구는 숙련 아동중심 놀이치료자들의 진정성 경험 과정을 세밀하게 분석하여, 초심 놀이치료자의 훈련 및 교육에 대한 실제적이고 유용한 정보를 제공할 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study was to better understand the kinds of processes experienced by child-centered play therapists in terms of authenticity during therapeutic scenarios, and to develop some basic theories from this. The author selected five experienced child-centered play therapist as study participants, and each participant underwent three to four individual interview. Appling hermeneutic grounded theory(Rennie, 2000, 2006, 2007, 2012), the participants’ verbal statement data, construction and description of categories, core categories and process analysis were analyzed. Firstly, 15 meanings units, 7 sub-categories, and 3 categories emerged through category construction. These 3 categories were as follows; ‘a mental attitude of respecting the child client as a human being’, ‘awareness of the therapist’s internal experience as a whole human being’ and ‘expressing one’s own internal experience externally as a therapist’. In turn, this led to the following observations 1) The experienced child-centered play therapists’ authenticity begins from the attitude of respecting the child as a human being. 2) The experienced child-centered play therapists’ authenticity is based on being able to be aware of the therapist’s own emotions and desires, and the child’s experience of the situation or the child’s mental or emotional state. 3) The child-centered play therapists’ authenticity began to filter when responses and behaviors came from their own emotions and desires and also depending upon whether it is therapeutic or not. Additionally expressing internal experiences by attuning to verbal or nonverbal messages and their timing was important. Secondly, through integrating categories and through continuous you-I awareness, the change from an ‘authentic self’ to becoming a ‘therapeutic self’ was brought out as the core category. Thirdly, through process analysis, 3 further steps emerged, as follows; ‘awaken authenticity’, ‘be aware of authenticity’, and ‘reciprocate authenticity’. The study analyzed the experience process of experienced child-centered therapists’ authenticity in great detail, and it is expected to serve as practical and useful information for the training and education of novice play therapists.
