『幷世才彦錄』을 통해 본 이규상의 世界認識 (Study on Lee Gyusang’s point of view towards the world through reading Byungsejaeunrok)

초록

이 논문은 『병세재언록』을 통해 저자인 이규상의 세계인식을 살펴보고자 하는 것이다. 『병세재언록』은 18개의 類目에 180여 명의 인물에 대한 기록을 담고 있는 18세기 조선의 인물지이다.
본 논문에서는 『史記』의 열전이나 『고려사』의 열전이 10개 항목에 불과한데, 毁와 貶의 대상이 되는 항목이 없는 『병세재언록』이 오히려 類目이 많다는 사실에 주목하여 이들 類目의 설정과 서술방식을 통해 이규상의 세계인식을 고찰해보고자 하였다.
『병세재언록』의 18개 類目 가운데 ‘儒林錄’을 비롯한 7개의 類目에는 별도의 서문이 있는데, 본고에서는 이들 서문을 통해 『史記』나 『고려』등의 열전의 類別과 다른 서술체제를 취한 이유를 살펴보고자 하였다. 그리고 『병세재언록』에 入錄되어 있는 「장대장전」 등 6개 傳을 통해 『병세재언록』이 역사로서의 ‘열전’이 아닌 객관적 서술로서의 기록으로 저술되었음을 살펴보았다.
다음으로, 『병세재언록』에서 굳이 ‘유림록’과 ‘고사록’, ‘우예록’과 ‘풍천록’, ‘규열록’과 ‘규수록’을 나눈 것은 「세계설」에서 말한 ‘음’과 ‘양’의 순환논리가 깔려 있음을 밝혔다. 또한 이러한 순환논리에 따라, 『병세재언록』에서 서얼이나 천출, 여성 등이 신분의 벽과 규방의 울타리 밖으로 나와 학문과 문장, 서화 등에서 두각을 나타내고 있는 현실을 최대한 반영하려고 했음을 살펴보았다.
이규상은 「세계설」에서 장차 언문, 즉 한글이 우리나라의 공용문자가 될 것이라고 주장한 바 있다. 이는 ‘과문록’ ‘기절록’ ‘역관록’ ‘영괴록’ 등을 설정했던 것과 연관성이 있는 것으로 보이나, 이규상이 별도로 한글에 대해 언급한 바가 없어 구체적으로 살필 수는 없었다.

영어초록

This article has the purpose of understanding Lee Gyusang’s point of view towards the world through reading Byungsejaeunrok. Byungsejaeunrok is the records of people containing information about roughly one hundred and eighty people in eighteen categories.
This paper tries to consider Lee Gyusang’s perception of the world through the setting and the description of the categories while focusing on the fact that whereas Sagiryeoljun or Goryeosayeoljun has only 10 categories, Byungsejaeunrok which has no category regarding disparaging and demolition has even more categories.
Out of eighteen categories of Byungsejaeunrok, seven of them including ‘Yourimrok’ each has a separate preface. And this paper tries to consider why Lee Gyusang tried to take a different form of narratives from Sagiryeoljun or Goryeosayeoljun. The next thing is to consider about six chapters including Jangdaejangjun were all documented in Byungsejaeunrok. And considered that Byungsejaeunrok was written not as a Yeoljun(＝history), but as a record of objective narration.
In Byungsejaeunrok, Lee Gyusang categorize ‘Yourimrok’, ‘Gosarok’, ‘Uyerok’, ‘Pungchunrok’, ‘Gyuyeolrok’ and ‘Gyusurok’, there lies his reasoning of the circulation of Yin and Yang in ‘Segyeseol’. The reasoning of the circulation of Yin and Yang is also the reason why he tried so intensely to reflect as much as possible in the writing of Byungsejaeunrok the reality where childrens of concubines and the slaves, and women were breaking the wall of social statuses and distinguishing themselves in the society in many areas including but not limited to literature and paintings.
Lee Gyusang has also stated in ‘Segyeseol’ that Hangeul will become the letters for common use in Korea. This paper shows that the setting of ‘Gwamunrok’, ‘Gijeolrok’, ‘Yeokgwanrok’ and ‘Yeongguerok was related to Lee Gyusang’s reflection on the changes of the society. But in Lee Gyusang's articles, does not note Hangeul seperatery. So in this article, could not consider that Hangeul will become the letters for common use in Korea.
