조선시대 노-주의 연결망과 공동체성, ‘아카이브 신체’—『쇄미록』의 노비 기록에 대한 문학해석학적 연구— (The Network. Community and Archived body between Nobi (Servants) and Yangban during Joseon Period: A literary and Interpretive Study on the Records of ths Servants in Soaemirok)

초록

이 논문은 오희문의 일기 『쇄미록』에 서술된 노비 관련 기록을 중심으로, 노비와 노주-양반의 관계가 단지 신분적 위계를 유지하는 명령-수행의 수직적 관계, 지배-복종의 종속적 관계에 한정되지 않았으며, 생활적, 환경적, 정서적 연결성을 유지하면서, 생명과 운명의 공동체를 형성했음을 해명했다. 『쇄미록』에는 오희문과 가족이 피난길에 종의 집에 투숙하면서 노비 일가와 상호 돌봄과 상호 의존성을 형성했던 정황이 서술된다. 피난처에서 노-주는 같은 음식을 먹는 섭생과 생명의 공동체였으며, 주거, 날씨, 질병 등 환경을 공유했다. 노-주가 함께 노동에 참여했고, 노주의 명으로 노비가 대리적인 상행위를 하는 등 노-주는 생활적 차원에서도 신뢰의 연결성을 유지했다. 노-주는 일정 부분 감정적으로 공감하고 추억과 꿈을 나누는 정서와 영적 공동체였으며, 제사와 의례를 함께 지내거나 대리 수행하는 연결성을 형성했다. 그 밖에 노-주는 음악, 잔치, 유람을 함께 즐기는 풍류와 감성의 공동체적 성격을 공유했다. 노비는 신분적 특성으로 인해 문자 습득과 제도 교육으로부터 배제되었지만, 양반과의 접속, 교류, 교섭, 연결성을 통해 신체적⋅경험적으로 지식과 정보, 교양과 감성을 축적하면서 스스로를 일종의 ‘아카이브 신체’로 단련했다. 양반과 노비는 일상의 필요나 사안에 따라 조립식 신체처럼 접속과 분리를 반복하며 탄력적인 연결성을 유지했다. 이 연구에서는 신분적, 젠더적 동질 집단 중심으로 조선시대를 사유할 때 인지할 수 없었던 노-주의 교섭과 연결성에 대해 주목해, 노-주 관계의 복합성, 다층성, 연결성, 공동체성을 문학해석학적으로 해명했다.

영어초록

This paper, focusing on records related to house servants (nobi) described in Oh Hi-mun’s journal, Soaemirok, analyzes that the relationship between nobi and yangban in everyday life is not just a vertical relationship of command-execution maintaining a hierarchy of status, and a subordinate relationship of domination-obedience. This paper proves that they formed a community in physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions, and formed identity and connectivity as a community of life and destiny. In Soaemirok, Oh Hi-mun and his family stay at a servant’s house during the period of evacuation from the Imjin War, describing a scene showing mutual care and interdependence between nobi and yangban. In the nobi’s house, which is a refuge, the nobi and the owner showed the aspect of a community where they ate the same food, and had the characteristics of an environmental community such as housing, weather, disaster and disease. Nobi and yangban worked together, and novi acted as a proxy under the orders of the yangban, establishing a connective relationship that they trusted each other economically. In terms of environment and emotional level, nobi and yangban were an affect and spiritual community that empathized emotionally and shared memories and dreams, and maintained the connectivity of sharing or performing rituals. They shared a community of taste and sensibility, enjoying music, feasts, and sightseeing together. Although nobi were excluded from learning literacy and systemic education due to their status, they trained themselves as archived bodies by physically and experientially accumulating knowledge, information, culture, and sensibility. Yangban and nobi maintained a flexible connection by repeating connection and separation like a assembled body according to daily needs or issues.
In this study, by analyzing the negotiations and connectivity between nobi and yangban, the complexity, multi-layeredness, connectivity, and communal dimensions of the relationship between nobi and yangban was proved.
