본 논문은 20세기 초 제정 러시아 카잔의 러시아 정교 선교회가 출판한 총 5권의 한⋅노 이중어 교재 중 두 번째 출판 교재인 『문자교본』(1902)을 소개하고, 외국어 학습교재로서 차별화된 특성에 대해 살펴보았다.
『기초 러시아어 교과서』(1901)가 노한번역 문제가 가미된 이중어 어휘집이었다면, 『문자교본』은 당시 러시아어 교육에서 가장 권위 있고 활용도가 높은 톨스토이의 『새로운 문자교본』을 저본으로 상정하여 노한번역 텍스트를 전면으로 내세운 강독서이자, 키릴문자화된 고려말의 이야기 텍스트를 학습하기 위한 문자교본이다. 『문자교본』의 내용 구성은 서문, 목차, 고려말편, 이야기, 러시아편 순으로이루어져있다. 본문에 해당되는 『문자교본』의 이야기는 저본의 문장과 1:1로 대응되는 축자역에 가까운 구조로 번역되어, 고려말과 러시아어 간의 대조통사론의관점에서 고려인 2세가 구사하는 고려말의 어순 및 문장구조, 그리고 문법형태소의 기능을 세밀하게 관찰할 수 있는 사료로서의 가치를 지닌다. 또한 고유명사는학습대상자인 고려인의 언어, 문화, 관습을 고려한 현지화된 명칭으로 번역되었다.
러시아어편을 통해 제시하는 『문자교본』의 교수법은 고려말 표기법을 학습하기위한 보조적 수단으로서 키릴문자로 쓰인 러시아어 단어를 소리 내어 정확히 읽는 연습을 하는 것이다. 이는 『문자교본』의 표기법이 키릴문자의 자연성에 기반 하여구축한 체계이므로, 키릴문자와 음가에 대한 이해가 이야기 텍스트를 강독하기 위해 필수적이기 때문이다.

This article introduces the Alphabet book for Korean Immigrants (1902), which is the second of five Korean-Russian bilingual textbooks published by the Russian Orthodox Missionary in Kazan during the early 20th century, and explores the book’s unique features and teaching methods as a foreign language textbook.
If Basic Russian Textbook for Korean Immigrants in Russia: Experimental Materials for Conversation Class (1901) was a bilingual wordbook with practice questions in Russian-Korean translation, Alphabet Book for Korean Immigrants was based on Tolstoy’s New Alphabet Book, which was the most authoritative and frequently used Russian language textbook in Russia at the time, as it used full-blown Russian-Korean translation text and was an intensive reading book though which students could study the stories written in Cyrillization of the Korean language. The Alphabet book for Korean Immigrants consists of a preface, table of contents, Korean part, stories and Russian part.
The stories in the Alphabet book for Korean Immigrants, which comprise the main part, were translated verbatim (word-for-word) from the source text, and it therefore has great value from the perspective of studies on comparative syntax between the Korean and Russian languages because it makes it possible to study the word order, syntax structure, and the grammatical morphemes used by the second generation of Korean Immigrants.
Conversely, the pronouns were translated into localized names out of consideration for the language, culture, and customs of Korean students.
Compared to the style of the source text, the Korean translation of the Alphabet book for Korean Immigrants is heavily oriented toward the style of spoken language style as it contains sentences in conversational speech.
The teaching method of the Alphabet book for Korean Immigrants presented in the Russian part is an auxiliary means of studying Cyrillization of Korean and allows the reader to practice clear pronunciation of Russian words written in Cyrillic text. The orthography in the Alphabet book for Korean Immigrants is a system based on the naturalness of the Cyrillic script and the reader’s understanding of it as well as its phonetic value; therefore, it is necessary to read the stories.
