초록

이 글은 충무공 이순신 북방유적의 공동조사 방안에 대해 지표조사와 발굴조사 등 고고학 조사 방안을 제시한 후 그간의 남북 공동조사와 한러 발굴조사의 경향을 검토하면서 남·북·러 공동조사의 실현 가능한 방법을 도출해 본 것이다. 이순신 북방유적은 두만강 하구를 중심으로 분포하고 있다. 함경도 삼수의 동구비보, 경원의 건원보, 경흥의 조산보와 녹둔도 등이 대표적이다. 또 조산보 소속의 봉수 및 연대인 남산봉수와 두리산봉수, 불암수호, 고봉수호, 고조산수호, 하단수호 등도 이에 해당한다. 주변 鎭堡인 경흥진, 서수라보, 무이보, 아오지보, 아산보, 안원보, 경원진 등도 향후 함께 考究할 대상이다. 이 중 두만강 하구의 녹둔도와 조산보는 임진왜란 발발 이전에 이순신이 여진족의 침입을 격퇴한 역사적 현장이다. 또 1860년 북경조약 체결로 상실한 조선의 영토이기에 더욱 애잔하다. 때문에 이순신 북방유적에 대한 고고학적 조사는 녹둔도와 조산보 등의 역사적인 성격을 보다 구체적으로 복원하기 위한 첫 단초라는 점에서 그 의미가 크다고 할 수 있다. 기존 남북 공동조사는 개성 만월대 고려궁성 발굴조사 외에는 미진한 편이다. 한·러 발굴조사 또한 연해주지역의 발해 유적에 집중되는 경향이 있어 시·공간적 다양성이 부족한 상황이다. 이에 이순신 북방유적의남·북·러 공동조사는 문화교류와 학술적 측면에서 충분히 의미 있는 결과를 얻을 수 있을 것으로 예상된다. 남북 모두의 민족 영웅을 대상으로 하기 때문이다. 앞으로 공동조사는 녹둔도 토성, 조산보와 승전대 등 관련 유구에 대하여 합의된 조사 매뉴얼에 따라 하강조사와 탐색트렌치를 병행할 필요가 있다. 이렇게 유구의 전모를 파악한 다음, 별도의 중장기 계획을 수립하여 연차 발굴조사를 진행하는 것이 타당하다고 사료된다. 이순신 북방유적에 대한 남·북·러 공동조사를 실현하기 위해서는 우선 한·러 발굴조사를 시작하고, 러시아측 조사단이 북측 고고학자들을 발굴 현장에 초청하여 ‘충무공 이순신 북방유적 남·북·러 공동조사’를 성사시키는 것이 보다 현실적 방안으로 판단된다. 특히 충무공 이순신 북방유적 공동조사는 기존에 진행되었던 남북교류 협력 사업에 이어서 남북 화해에 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 보인다. 나아가 러시아를 매개로 한 국제 협력 사업으로 확대시킨다면, 동북아 평화 공동체의 기반을 조성하는 데 일정하게 기여할 것으로 전망된다.

영어초록

This article presents archaeological investigation methods such as earth surface and excavation investigation for the joint investigation plan of the northern relics of Admiral Yi Sunsin, and then approaches the practical method for the South-North-Russia joint investigation by examining the trends of the North-South joint investigation and Korea-Russia excavation investigation. The northern relics of Yi Sunsin are distributed around the Tumen River estuary. Representative relics include Donggubibo(董仇非堡) of Samsu(三水), Geonwonbo(乾原堡) of Kyongwon(慶源), Josanbo(造山堡) of Kyonghung(慶興), and Nokdundo(鹿屯島) in Hamgyong Province. Also includes are Namsan Bongsu, Durisan Bongsu, Bulamsuho, Gobongsuho, Gojosansuho, and Hadansuho, which are Bongsu(烽燧, beacon fire) and Yeondae(煙臺, beacon fire stand) belong to Josanbo. Gyeongheungjin(慶興鎭), Seosurabo(西水羅堡), Muibo(撫夷堡), Aojibo(阿吾地堡), Asanbo(阿吾地堡), Anwonbo(安原堡), and Gyeongwonjin(慶源鎭), which are the neighboring Jinbo(鎭堡), are also subject to further study. Among these, Nokdundo and Josanbo at the estuary of the Tuman River are historical sites where Yi Sunsin defeated the invasion of the Jurchen(女眞) before the outbreak of the Imjin War. It is a land of sorrow because Joseon lost it due to the Convention of Peking in 1860. Therefore, the archaeological investigation of the northern relics of Yi Sunsin is significant in that it is the first step for more concrete restoration of the historical significance of Nokdundo and Josanbo. Existing joint investigations between the two Koreas are insufficient except for the excavation of Goryeo Palace Manwoldae in Kaesong. Existing Korea-Russia excavations focus only on the Balhae relics in the Maritime Province, lacking temporal and spatial diversity. Therefore, it is expected that the joint investigation on the northern relics of Yi Sunsin allows meaningful results in terms of cultural exchange and academic work because it targets the common national heroes of the two Koreas. Future joint investigation needs to conduct descent investigation and exploration trench in accordance with the agreed investigation manual for related relics such as earthen fortress of Nokdundo, Josanbo and Seungjeondae(勝戰臺). It is considered reasonable to establish a separate medium-and long-term plan and conduct annual excavation investigations after figuring out the whole aspect of the relics. A more realistic way to accomplish a joint investigation on the northern relics of Yi Sunsin, is to start an excavation investigation between Korea and Russia, and then a Russian investigative group invite North Korean archaeologists to the excavation site to achieve “the South-North-Russia joint investigation of the northern relics of Yi Sunsin”. In particular, the joint investigation is expected to play an important role in reconciliation between the two Koreas following the previously conducted inter-Korean exchange and cooperation projects. Furthermore, if the project is expanded to an international cooperation project through Russia, it is expected to contribute to the formation of a foundation for Northeast Asian peace community.
