초록

본 연구는 1960년대 손창섭의 신문소설 9편을 대상으로 하여 격동기 상황에 작가가 신문이라는 매체를 통해 어떻게 대응하고자 하였는가 사회적비판 관점에서 밝혀보고자 하였다. 손창섭은 1960년대 신문소설에 대한 명확한 의식을 갖고 당시 한국사회 실정을 반영하고자 하였다. 그는 생활을위해 신문소설을 쓴다는 것을 ‘독자의 저속한 취미와 본능을 자극하려는 단순한 악취미가 아니었‘다고 말한다. 손창섭은 신문소설을 통해 이승만 자유당 시절로부터 박정희 근대화 사회에 이르기까지 여전히 사회적 악습과결탁되어 있는 가부장적이고 차별적인 제도, 그리고 권력과 담합한 기회주의적 부패 양상에 대한 비판과 환멸을 담아내고자 하였다. 이러한 한국사회에 대한 반영과 묘사는 60년대 한국사회에 대한 부정정신에서 비롯된 것으로, 인간의 사물화, 사회화(Socialization)에 대한 비판정신에 다름 아니라 할 수 있다. <세월이 가면> <저마다 가슴속에>에서는 자유당 독재시기의 비인간적 타락상을, <내 이름은 여자>, <부부>에서는 5.16쿠데타 직후가부장적 관습과 결탁한 부정한 권력 형성과정을, <인간교실>과 <결혼의의미>,<아들들>,<이성연구>에서는 가족, 연애, 부부관계를 통해 개발동원체제 시대의 왜곡된 인간 군상을 묘사함으로써 근대산업사회의 길목에서병들어가고 있는 한국사회를 진단하고자 하였다. 이는 결국 손창섭의 도일 직전 마지막으로 연재한 소설 <길>에서 종합되어진다. 손창섭 소설 주인공들의 귀농은 60년대 사회악습과 부패의 관행, 타락한 민심, 쿠데타 주모자들이 강제한 근대화의 허위와 기만에 대한 작가의 환멸감에서 나온 선택이었다고 볼 수 있다.

영어초록

This thesis aims to investigate 1960's SonChangSeop' newspaper stories on how to respond and challenge the social change resulted from democratic movements in 1960. 4.19 and 5.16 coup de etat in 1961 compelled people's reformation age in 1960's. At first, he wrote the 8 stories with the target consciousness and the clear vision of the newspaper story. He had written the stories not to stimulate his non specialized readers's instinct nor to satisfy readers low taste but to tell everything freely for them. He tried to criticize the people's physical desire and immoral survival attitude that were driven by the compulsion of coup power in 1960's. He strived to enlighten people's thoughts and imaginations of justice and morality and to have them to realize the disillusion of modernizing city resulted from the haste construction compelled by coup de etat power. According to Hana Arrent, modernization shrivels the human natural political subjectivity, but public sphere keeps the corrupted private sphere.
SonChangSeop's newspaper stories also mean the negation and disavowal of the traditional patriarch's developing system, supported by strong army style in 1960's . His stories did not intend to configurate the popular vulgar sexaulity by giving up a seriousness but appealed the negation and disavowal mind standing against patriarchal system and his political society through another authorship.
<Saeweoleegamyeon, If The Time Pass Away> and <Jeomadigasemsoge, In the Everybody 's Heart> showed moral corruption and injustice of majority during the LeeSeoungMan's dictatorship in 1959~1960. In < Naeiremeunyeoja, My Name is Girl>,and < Bubu, Couple> criticized patriarchal custom, and vicious practice. They also criticized man's disguised power, attitude and cynically represented the process of his forming power in 1961's coup.
And <Ingangyosil, humanbeing's class>, <Gyeolhoneuieumi,Meanging of marriage>,<Ahdeuldeul, Sons>, <Yiseongyeongu, A study of the other sex> had its readers to realize the conflict of Korean family in the middle of 1960's : five son's fight because of filial piety and painful women's marital matter discourse experienced because of discrimination, distorted Good Samarian's conducts in Compulsory Mobilization System of 1960's.
In conclusion, these stories focused on a story <Gil, Way>, which was written right before Seongchil's departure to his home country.
Seongchil, the hero of <Gil>, finally wished to go back to his home town, country far from modernized Seoul that experienced much pain and hopelessness. Motive of his retun to countryside was very important for Sonchangseop himself, that he appealed his vision four times to the readers out of his nine works.
