근대 조선의 한네레의 승천 수용과 방정환 (Aspects of Appropriation of The Ascension of Hanneles and BangJungHwan)

초록

본고는 근대 아동문학과 한네레의 승천 전유 양상에 대해 논의하였다.
방정환은 독일 자연주의 작가 하우프트만의 한네레의 승천 을 번역, 사랑의선물 (개벽사, 1922) 5번째 이야기로 수록하였다. 그런데 번역동화의 제목을 한네레의 죽음 이라고 명명한다.
방정환은 어린이 잡지 창간호에 동화극 노래주머니 를 발표하기에 앞서, 이미 외국의 유명 동화극 한네레의 죽음 을 ‘천도교 동화극대회’(1923. 1. 14) 때상연하였다. 이 동화극은 아동 학대와 인권 옹호에 대한 사회적 경종을 촉구한 근대 아동문학사 최초 동화극 상연으로서 의의가 크다.
방정환은 하우푸트만 원작 한네레의 승천 을 조선의 현실과 어린이 독자의수준에 맞게 개작하여 제목도 한네레의 죽음 으로 달았다. 한네레의 죽음 은사랑의 선물에 수록된 10편 가운데 가장 변개가 많은 작품이다. 따라서 본고는그 개작 양상에 주목하여 한네레의 죽음 이 어떻게 ‘승천’의 서사를 ‘죽음’의 서사로 전유해 가는지 분석하였다. 본고는 크게 그 변개 양상을 ‘등장 인물 구성의 차이’, ‘한네레 가출의 설득력 있는 상황 묘사’, ‘계부 마테른의 징벌 서사 약화’, ‘기독교적 내세 천국관의 삭제’ 등 4가지로 분석하였다.
무엇보다 한네레의 죽음 에서 가장 ‘방정환다운’ 서사로 피력되는 독자성은‘한네레와 그 언니’, ‘두 자매의 죽음’ 서사이다. 방정환은 원작에 존재하지 않는 제3의 인물인 ‘한네레의 언니’를 등장시켜 조선의 핍박받고 고통스러워하는 어린이의모습을 대변하는 역할을 부여한 것이다. 본고는 두 어린 자매는 비록 원작에서와같이 천국 세계의 ‘성녀’가 되지는 않지만, 조선 어린이의 희생과 고통을 대속하는구원자로서 더 큰 의미의 대승적 ‘신성’을 완성하였다고 해석하였다.
사랑의 선물은 1920년대 한국 동화문학 형성기를 해명하는 중요한 사료이다. 앞으로 보다 진전된 연구가 이루어져야 할 것으로 본다.

영어초록

This study discusses about aspects of appropriation of the ascension of Hanneles and modern children's literature.
Bang Jung Hwan translated the Germany naturalistic writer, Gerhart Hauptmann's the ascension of Hanneles and published it as the fifth story in Gift of Love(Gae-byuk-sa 1922). But he named the title of the translated fairy tale Death of Hanneles .
Bang Jung Hwan already put on the famous foreign play for children, Death of Hanneles in ‘the Cheondogyo meeting for plays for children’(1923. 1. 14), before he published the play for children, a pocket of songs in the first issue of the magazine Children. This play for children was of great significance as the first performed play for children in the modern history of children literature, as it called the social alarm for child abuse and the protection of human rights on stage.
Bang Jung Hwan adapted the Hauptmann's original work, the ascension of Hanneles , so close to children reader's levels and the reality of the Joseon dynasty.
He also named the title of it Death of Hanneles . Death of Hanneles was the biggest work of changes in the ten stories which were contained in Gift of Love.
Therefore this study pays attention to the adaption aspects of it and analyzes how Death of Hanneles changed the narrative of ‘the ascension’ to the narrative of ‘death’ and appropriated it. This study analyzes the change aspects as ‘differences in character composition’, ‘persuasive description of circumstances of Han-na-re's runaway’, ‘the narrative weakness for her stepfather, Matereun's punishment’, and ‘the deletion of the view of christian afterlife heaven’ in a big category.
Most of all, the originality that was expressed as the most ‘like Bang Jung Hwan’ narrative in Death of Hanneles is the narrative of ‘Hanneles and her older sister’ and ‘Death of two sisters’. Bang Jung Hwan presented the third person, ‘the older sister of Hanneles’ who did not appear in the original work and gave her a role to speak for the child who was persecuted and felt pain in the Joseon society. The two little sisters completed the broader ‘divine nature’ of the bigger meaning as saviors who went through sacrifice and pain instead of children of the Joseon dynasty, although they did not come to be ‘saintess’ of the heaven world like in the original work.
