The purpose of this study is to research the methods that strip cartoons use four cuts of the strip cartoon for satire and criticism. A story is formed from beween four cuts' structure and communicated messages in strip cartoons. In this paper, We can see four mathods of making a story: the four steps in composition, reversal, comparison/contrast, enumeration. The data in this paper is total 700 items. Each strip cartoon has 50 items in 13 kinds of Korean newspapers..
The four steps in composition is most general structure in four cuts' structures. It is used to make curiosity bigger in 3th cut. Reversal is based on unforeseen. It is unforeseen that makes the happenings humor and satirize by showing things contrast estimate. Generally it makes us laughing not pungent satire. The degree of laugh is dependent on degree of estimate. There is no special playing with words that usually used in the reversal. Reversal is used 13.8%(90/650). In <Solchi> it is not used not at all. It is used 13 times in <Aidi>, 12 times in <Pirami>, 11 times in < Nadaero> and <Mijual> each other.
Comparison/contrast has a grounding on reasoning. It presents comparison or contrast from two things and makes us reason the messages. Usually it is composed two parts on two cuts together but sometimes in the four steps in composition 2～3 cuts is compared or contrasted with. It is often expressed by couplets. Comparison/ contrast is used13.8%(90/650), is used 19 times in <Changdori>, 14 times in <Solchi>.
Enumeration has a tendency to criticize without reserve. There are two patterns: one is simple parallel and the other is crescendo/decrescendo parallel. It has a tendency to repeat similar language expression. Universally cartooners' thingking is expressed in the last cut, the fore part is arranged the things that is related to each other. It is more immediately revealed criticism than comparison/contrast. Sometimes is used the mathod that the first cut show common feature. Occasionally enumerationis is used in the four steps in composition. Enumeration of three cuts is related to conversion. It is to present context that arrange only two cuts in a row. Enumeration is used to total 21.4%(139/650): 20 times in <Kobawoo>, 19 times in <Mijual>, 17 times in <Changdori> etc.
