릴레이셔널 홈을 통한 희망 형성 : 절망에 처한 사람들을 위한 목회상담과 돌봄 (Providing Hope through Relational Home : Pastoral Care and Counseling for Those in the Midst of Despair)

초록

이 연구는 코로나 사태가 장기화하고 인구 감소와 저성장과 침체 속에서 미래를 낙관하지 못하는 한국 사회와 교회의 상황에 대한 목회신학적인 응답을 제시하고자 시작되었다. 여러 가지 이유로 미래가 더 나아지지 않으리라고 생각하며 절망하는 사람들에게 목회신학은 어떻게 희망을 형성하고 제시할 수 있을까? 이 연구는 이러한 문제의식을 지니고 목회신학 방법론에 따라 사례로부터 출발해서 이론적 성찰을 거쳐 희망 형성에 효과적인 요인들을 제안하려고 시도한다.
이 연구는 먼저 절망에 처한 사람들의 상담 사례를 소개하고(II), 목회상담과 돌봄 상황에서 희망의 의미를 고찰한 목회신학자 도널드 캡스(Donald Capps)와 앤드류 레스터(Andrew D. Lester)의 연구를 개관한다(III). 이어서 캡스와 랩스터는 인간 실존의 트라우마 차원을 충분히 고려하지 못했다고 비판하고, 셸리 램보(Shelly Rambo)의 트라우마 신학에 기초하여 트라우마 경험의 시간성을 고찰한다(IV). 마지막으로 이 연구는 램보가 치유와 변화를 언급하는 데에는 소극적이라고 비판하고, 램보의 중간 담론을 받아들이면서도 릴레이셔널 홈을 통해 치유와 변화와 희망을 형성할 수 있다고 주장한다. 또한 앞의 사례들에 대한 성찰을 통해 상담자의 버티고 머무는 현존, 기독교적 희망과 교회공동체, 다른 사람을 돕는 일에 참여 등이 희망을 불러일으킨 요인들이라고 묘사하고, 이 모든 변화와 치유와 희망 형성의 토대는 릴레이셔널 홈이라고 밝혔다(V).
결론에서는 이러한 논의를 더욱 확대하여 예배와 설교와 교육 분야에서 기독교적 희망을 설교하고 가르치고 소통할 때에도 트라우마 차원과 램보의 죽음과 삶 사이의 공간에 대한 성찰이 의미를 지닐 수 있다고 제안하고, 앞으로 실천신학의 다른 영역에서도 절망적 상황에서 기독교적 희망의 의미에 대한 후속 연구에 대한 기대를 표현한다.

영어초록

This study starts from the attempt to provide the pastoral theological response to the situation of Korean society and church which do not hope for the future due to the depopulation, underdevelopment, and economic stagnation in the midst of prolonged situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. How can pastoral theology instill and awaken the hope of those who become plunged into despair in the midst of pessimistic thinking that the future will not be better? This study, with this awareness of problem, follows the pastoral theological method and starts from the three cases, going through theoretical reflection and identifying three effective factors for providing hope.
First, this study introduces the three cases of those in the midst of despair(II), then outlines the studies of Donald Capps and Andrew D. Lester which investigate meanings of hope in the context of pastoral care and counseling(III). After criticizing their failure to acknowledge the dimension of trauma in human existence, my study deals with temporality of the traumatic experience on the basis of Shelly Rambo’s theology of trauma(IV). Finally, this study, criticizing Rambo’s hesitancy in her reference to healing and transformation, argues that it is possible to induce healing and transformation and hope through the relational home. Furthermore, through reflection on the three cases, it describes the enduring and remaining presence of the counselor, Christian hope and the ecclesiastical community, and participation in helping others as three factors for awakening hope. It also asserts that the relational home provides the foundation of all these changes, healing and hope(V).
In conclusion, enlarging the scope of discussion to the areas of worship, preaching, and Christian education, this study makes a suggestion that the dimension of trauma as well as Rambo’s reflection on the space between death and life may contribute to preaching, educating, and communicating the Christian hope. It finally expresses an expectation that other areas of practical theology will produce subsequent studies on meanings of the Christian hope in the midst of despair.
