공(共)‒ 창조적 장소로서의 공공도서관 메이커스페이스 연구 (A Study on Public Library Makerspace as a Co-Creative Place)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 4차 산업 혁명 시대가 보다 지능화된 사회로 진입하면서 공(共)‑창조성 이론에 근거한 도서관 기능 및 역할의 변화를 추구하게 되었으며, 이와 함께 메이커스페이스의 도입과 활용의 중요성이 강조되었다. 롬바흐는 창조가 본질적으로 구조를 이루고 있는 개체들의 상호작용을 통해 자연스럽게 ‘생성(Genese)’이 이루어지는 공(共)‑창조적인 생동 과정으로 정의하였다. 이는 모든 것이 상호 연결되어 융합적 사고로 지능화되고 있는 현 시대의 중요한 창조의 개념으로 재조명되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 롬바흐의‘공(共)‑창조성’이론의 관점으로 공공도서관에 도입된 메이커스페이스 사례를 분석하여, 창조 활동의 장소로서 공공도서관 메이커스페이스의 공간디자인 특성과 방향성을 도출하고자 한다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 이론적 고찰을 통해 롬바흐의 ‘공(共)‑창조성’의 개념을 이해하고, 현재 활발하게 진행되고 있는 메이커스페이스의 정의와 특성을 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 바탕으로 공공도서관 메이커스페이스를 해석하고 공간적 특성을 도출하고자 한다. 둘째, 도출 된 내용을 중심으로 사례 분석틀을 만들고, 선도적으로 이루어진 공공도서관 메이커스페이스 사례를 심층적으로 분석하고자 한다. (결과) 본 연구에서 살펴 본 공공도서관 메이커스페이스는 첫째, 정보 습득의 공간, 협업의 공간, 제작 공간, 커뮤니티 공간, 세미나 공간 등 다양한 공간 기능이 유기적으로 연결되어 공(共)‒창조적 장소의 특성을 지니고 있었다. 둘째, 공공도서관 메이커스페이스는 메이커들의 다양한 창조적 행위가 이루어지고 연결되면서 공간의 구조는 다변화 되고 복합화 된다. 셋째, 이는 공간의 탈 위계성, 공간의 연속성, 공간의 불확정성을 이루어지면서 다 중심화 되면서 창조적 생성(Genese)’이 끊임없이 발생하게 된다. 넷째, 공공도서관 메이커스페이스는 열림 ․ 통합 ․ 분리 ․ 가변 ․ 연속 ․ 침투의 공간구축 원리가 작용하게 되면서 복합적으로 공(共)‒창조적 구조가 강화된다. (결론) 본 연구는 의의는 공공도서관 메이커스페이스의 의미를 첨단 장비를 통한 제작이라는 단편적인 해석을 벗어나 공(共)‒창조성의 개념의 광의적인 해석을 하였다는데 있다. 또한 공(共)‒창조성 공간의 특성을 심층적으로 분석함으로써 공공도서관 메이커스페이스의 새로운 의미 해석의 가능성을 제시했다는 것이다. 향후 공(共)‒창조적 특성을 반영하고, 공공적 영역으로서의 커뮤니티 구축과 실천적 모델의 공간디자인 연구가 지속적으로 이루어 져야 할 것이다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) As the Fourth Industrial Revolution is ushered by a more intelligent society, changes in the function and role of the library, based on the theory of co-creativity, are pursued. In this context, the importance of the introduction and utilization of “makerspace” is highlighted. According to Rombach, “makerspace” is defined as the vivid process of co-creativity in which genesis naturally occurs through the interaction of an entity whose creation is essentially structured. This concept is being reexamined as an important element of creation in the current era, where everything is interconnected and becomes intelligent through integrated thinking. In this regard, this study aimed to analyze the case of makerspace introduced in public libraries from the perspective of co-creativity of Rombach and to derive the direction and characteristics of the spatial design of public library makerspace as a creative activity. (Method) This study sought to shed light on the concept of co-creativity of Rombach through a theoretical review and to examine the definition and characteristics of makerspace currently being hosted. Against this backdrop, this study intended to interpret a public library makerspace and then derive its spatial characteristics. Second, this study aimed to create a case analysis framework focusing on produced results and then conduct an in-depth case analysis of public makerspace. (Results) First, the public library makerspace was found to have the characteristics of co-creativity in which various spatial functions are organically connected, such as information acquisition, cooperation, production, community, and seminar space. Second, structural space tended to become diversified and complicated as various creative activities take place in the public library makerspace. Third, centralization and genesis were found to be constantly occurring as a result of de-hierarchy, continuity of space, and uncertainty of space. Fourth, the public library makerspace strengthened the structure of co-creativity as acted upon by the principles of building space, namely, separation, integration, variability, continuity, openness, and penetration. (Conclusions) The significance of this study is in its interpretation of the concept of co-creativity in a broad sense, beyond the fragmentary one that interprets a public library makerspace through high-tech equipment. Through in-depth analysis of spatial characteristics of co-creativity, this study presents the possibility of a new semantic interpretation of public library makerspace. It will be necessary to build a community as a public domain and continue to study the space of practical models that reflect the characteristics of co-creativity.
