朝鮮後期 延安李氏 三陟公派의 근거지 확산과 坡州정착 (Diffusion of a base and the settlement in Paju city(坡州) for the group of Samcheok provincial office(三陟府使公) of the Yi clan of Yonan(延安李氏) in the late Chosun Dynasty)

초록

이 논문은 조선시대 유력한 문벌가문의 하나이던 연안이씨 삼척공파의 거주지 이동과 확산과정을, 그 집안 인물들의 정치적 성쇠와 관련하여 살핀 글이다. 이를 통해 양반가문의 유지에 정치적 진출(구체적으로는 주요관직의 세습)이 갖는 비중을 검증해보려는데 목적을 둔다.
세계가 분명하게 밝혀지는 조선초기 이래 연안이씨는 서울 남쪽의 용인에 무덤을두고 근거지로 하고 있었다. 그러다가 시조로부터 11대 후손이 되는 이말(1466~1526, 1506문과급제)의 형제3인이 과거에 급제하면서 분가가 이루어졌다. 그중 삼척부사를 역임했던 이말은 보다 수도에 가까운 파주에 정착했다. 그의 벼슬이름을 따서 삼척공파로 불리는 그의 후손들은, 이후 정치적으로 크게 출세하였다. 문과급제자가 46명이고 1명의 공신을 포함하여 40~50명 정도의 유력한 벼슬을 역임한 관리를 배출한 것이다. 그런 정치적 성공은 주로 17세기(즉 선조~숙종)에 이루어졌다.
정치적 성공은 곧 근거지의 확산을 가져왔다. 17세기에만 충청도, 경상도, 강원도, 전라도 등의 여러 지역에 새로운 근거지와 묘산이 마련되었다. 벼슬할 때는 임금이 있는서울에 머물지만, 은퇴한 후에는 자신이 마련한 근거지에 살며 거기에 묻혔다. 그러나17세기 말 노론의 장기집권이 실현되면서 정권경쟁에서 패배한 남인에 속했던 삼척공파는 몰락하게 된다. 그에 따라 더 이상의 근거지 확산도 중단된다. 대체로 보아 18세기 이후 삼척공파에 속하는 인물들은, 그 중에 드물게 벼슬에 나온 몇몇 사람을 제외하고는, 이미 확보한 근거지를 중심으로 향촌에 세거하며 집성촌을 형성하는 모습을보이게 된다.
그렇다고 그들이 서로 완전히 분리된 독립적 개체로 살았던 것은 아니다. 족보와 같은 문중조직이 이런 분산된 족적기반을 연결해주는 매개체적 구실을 하였다.
연안이씨 삼척공파에서 찾아지는 이런 양상은, 정치적 지위의 세습성을 전제로 한벌열가문의 정치상황 변동에 따른 변모되는 모습을 보여주는 몇가지 유형중의 하나를보여준다.

영어초록

This paper is mainly on the spatial pattern of residential mobility of the group of Samcheok provincial office of The Yi clan of Yonan, one of the distinguished families in the Chosun Dynasty, in regard to the political ups and downs of the family .
This is to verify how their entry into politics is heavy on the maintenance of family’s power.
Since the early Chosun Dynasty, the time when the world had begun unfolded, the Yi clan of yonan had had established a base in Yong-in country in southern Seoul.
Then they set up a branch family since three brothers of Yi-mal(李抹) who was the 11th descendant of the progenitor passed the civil service Examination.
Yi-mal was a Samcheok suffranganship and settled in Paju, a city nearer the capital.
His descendants, who were named the group of Samcheok provincial office after his position, made big political gains; 46 of them passed the civil service Examination, one became a meritorious retainer, and about 40-50 took up a public office. This policitical success was mainly reached in the 17th century leading to the diffusion of their base. In the 17th century, new base and ancestral burial ground were provided in many parts of the county, including Chung-chong province, Gyeong-sang province, Gang-won province, and Jeolla province. While staying in Seoul during the term of office, they returned to the base after retirement and were buried in the ancestral burial ground.
Realizing Noron(老論)’s long-term seizure of power, however, the group of Samcheok provincial office, who lost in a struggle for political power, fell in circumstances resulting in an interruption of additional diffusion of their base.
On the whole, the group of Samcheok provincial office in the 18th century tended to reside in the base they have already secured and formed a village of same Surname for generations. However, this does not mean that they were segregated from each other. A family Organization, such as a genealogical table, served as a medium that connects these distributed communities.
This aspect shows some types of change of a meritorious family who was guaranteed the hereditary succession of power to their descendants.
