백석의 初期詩에 나타난 換喩的 발상과 表現 연구 －「여우난곬族」 중심으로－ (A Study of the Meaning of Metonymical Expression in Baek-Seok's Poetry)

초록

본고의 목적은 백석의 初期詩에 나타난 換喩的 表現이 내용과 형식적 측면에서 어떤 역할과 의미를 만들어냈는지 밝히는 데 있다. 지금까지 백석 시의 詩的 공간은 故鄕과 傳統으로 대변되었다. 이것은 일반적으로 백석의 시가 추구했던 것이 상실된 고향에 대한 그리움과 민족적 主體性을 세우는 것이었기 때문으로 설명된다. 그러나 백석 시에 사용된 換喩的 表現 방식의 增減度와 그것의 다른 시적 요소들과의 關聯性을 추적해볼 때 다르게 이해할 수 있는 측면이 있다. 백석은 프루스트나 제임스 조이스와 같은 모더니즘 소설 작가들의 影響 아래서 자신만의 독창적인 시작을 전개한 시인이다. 그의 시에서 換喩는 단순한 수사적 장치가 아니다. 그것은 存在論的 探索을 수행하는 ‘表現-機械’로서 시 전체를 끌고 가는 주된 生成力이다. 그의 初期詩에서 換喩的 表現은 反復과 羅列, 列擧, 敷衍 등의 방식으로 나타나고, 중첩된 여러 가지의 배경 세계로 작동되며, 感覺的 記號들의 換喩적 配置로 나타난다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to revile Baek Seok's metonymical expressions; while what roles did it and what it meant at Baek Seok's poems from form and matter. Until these days, It is believed that Baek Seok's poetic-space was to discribe as both his sweet hometown, and tradition. This usually bring to a conclusion that Baek Seok’s poems pursue yearning of lost hometown and establishing national identity. However, another aspect which understands Baek Seok’s poems differently in the density of metonymical expression and relationship with other poetic expressions in his works strongly appears.
Baek Seok is a poet who explore his unique style under Modernism novel authors similar to Proust, and James Joyce. He explored his own ontological searching passing his main period of writing. Such a stylish writter he was, and his work was sub-categorized into two; in the beginning, he wrote through the spatial-metonymical expression but soon transformed to the chronological-metonymical expression.
In his poem, metonymy isn't just a simple rhetorical device. It is rather mainly poetic creation power for ontological searching as the ‘expression-machine' so that this could lead out his entire poetry. In his poem, metonymy is shown by repetition, enumeration, listing, and expatia- tion, works on many piled background worlds, and is revealed by meto- nymical expression of sensuous symbols.
We will look into 「Younangolsjok」, the first major work in his first collection poem 『Sasum』 for spatial metonymy world. First, 「Youn- angolsjok」 contains worldly festivals, feminine point of view of love it self, and various types of food. All the above elements co-exist with his sensory universe. Using his spatial metonymical style, he then create massive search for his identity as a poet through chaotic, yet empty space.
Baek Seok's metonomical expression was great example of the poetic style in Deleuze' literature theory. In his poem, metonomical expression was creating a foundation for his ontological searching; while recreating a rather living ‘present progressive-past'. Such poetic creation power of metonomical expression was conducted by spatial metonomical expression in the early stage, later it was transform into chronological-metonomical expression that, finally, was making a period mark on his search for existence as a man.
